WordPress.com Introduce Sidebar Widgets
Filed in: Weblog, WordPress — March 14th, 2006
The WordPress widget is not a Mac OS X widget. It is widget for WordPress themes. WordPress.com member can get it in their WordPress admin panels. Under “Presentation”, you will see an extra “Sidebar Editor” tab.

What does WordPress widgets do?
With WordPress widgets, you can easily change the sidebar elements and sort them. Besides some common sidebar elements, now you can add rss feeds, del.icio.us bookmark, and your own text into the sidebar.
It is completely done in the WordPress admin, no file editing needed (which is what we are doing now).
My two cents
WordPress widget is cool! I wish the API will be ported to WordPress soon!

I believe the widgets are for only Wordpress.com blogs and not wordpress.org blogs…Does wordpress.co have a facility to insert adsense?

No, wordpress.com does not support template editing yet, therefore we can’t add adsense code on it.

[...] Good ideas never come alone. Wordpress released a few days ago also SiderBar widgets as well as APIs for developers to build new items which is quite discussed. The easiness of integration in a blog is comparable to Typepad. One thing I liked there, is the possibility in a nice Ajax interface to edit your own text and place it in the side bar. The widget catalog (recent comments/ feed/ Flickr / Delicious and others) is not huge yet, but it sure will be soon. More here and there. [...]
