World’s Cheapest Domain Name Registration
Filed in: Web — March 17th, 2006

After iPowerWeb announced the world’s cheapest domain name registration fee ($2.95 per year) last November, it has been growing rapidly from less than 2,000 to more than 20,000 new domain names per month.
iPowerWeb accept top level domain name extensions such as .com, .net, and .org. Each customer can register up to 50 domain names. The special price is only valid for first year. Renewal fee will be charged at the normal rate: $8.25.
iPowerWeb is stupid?
According to Ipwalk, iPowerWeb will lose $3 for each domain name registration. Well, the cost is part of its marketing expenses. iPowerWeb gets publicity, and new customers for its other services (e.g. web hosting).
With this one single move, cutting their domain name prices to the lowest on the Internet, iPowerWeb has transformed itself into one of the fastest growing web hosting companies in the world.

hello,
yesterday i try to buy a domain from them. i use public bank debit card - visa electron. i filled the from and checkout. then, ipower e-mail me that i need to fax them copy of my debit card(both side) and identification details for confirmation. it’s such a big trouble for me so i won’t have fax machine.
why there using this method of confirmation? other merchants just use the 3 comfirmation numbers.
so, rather then fax my card copy to them I register with Netfirms for $4.95. dns management, url forwarding, etc included. i think it will cost the same if i fax my details to them. =(

Thanks for sharing your experience, A. Azfar.
I, too, never experience the company request fax copy of PB debit card. I guess iPower is trying to avoid card frauds, but it apparently becomes troublesome to customers.
Hmm… I suspect fax copies is required for customers from certain countries only…

If you get hosting from GoDaddy, domain will cost you $1.99 only. Btw, what you guys prefer, local hosting (Malaysia) or US hosting?

i prefer cheap hosting :p
actually depends on targeted visitors location.. if mostly from Malaysia, sure I go for Malaysia hosting. otherwise, choose US hosting or hosting from specific country.

I had an account with iPowerweb, and I cancelled, but they never refunded my money, and they keep charging me! I even called their support, and e-mailed them proof! I now use vistapages and am very satisfied!
