Bon Echo - Firefox 2 Alpha 2 Review
Filed in: Mozilla, Open Source — May 18th, 2006
Mozilla has released the Firefox 2 Alpha 2, code name “Bon Echo“. There are several new features in the version.
Feature highlights:
- Close tab button on browser tab. This could be installed using a Firefox extension since long time ago, but it is the first time it is integrated in Firefox by default. Only highlighted tabs will show the close tab button.

- Search box suggestion. Enter a search term in search box will show search suggestions by supported search engines (Google and Yahoo).

- Feed handling. New options, allowing you to subscribe website feeds using third party application or online feed readers, instead of Firefox Live Bookmarks. No need to install the Feed Your Reader Firefox extension.

- Spell checker. Text entered in multiline text box is automatically checked for mistyped words. The single line text box can active spell checker manually.

What’s next?
A “Safe Browsing” feature will be added into Firefox 2. Firefox 2 beta will have new icons, mass tab handling, and tab close undo. Firefox 2 may be released in October 2006.
My two cents
My simple wishlist of Firefox features: Faster browsing speed and less memory usage (especially on OS X).

Among all the new features available, I’m looking forward more on the future of microsummaries. It will potentially be another RSS-like hype among the web content publishers.
