If you want to get a WordPress.com account without getting a free WordPress blog, it is possible now. WordPress.com has updated the registration page for you.

There are a few reasons for getting a WordPress.com account without a blog:
- Leave comments on blogs that require signing in.
- If you only want WordPress.com API key (for Akismet anti spam).
- If you’re a writer of an existing blog but do not want to have your own blog.
- For future WordPress.com members only features.
My two cents
This is nice! I guess many WordPress bloggers would want to get a WP.com API key without creating another blog. We don’t need to create unnecessary blogs, and WordPress.com can save system resources on empty blogs.
By the way, can we get a blog after registering for a WordPress.com account?

It’s about time.
I already have my own blog but had to create a new one (unused) at WordPress.com just so I can get the API no to activate Akismet anti spam tool.

Your subdomain is blocked, e.g. username.wordpress.com just incase you decide to create a blog later.
