LiewCF.com is BACK!

Dear all, I am sorry for the downtime for in the past few days. Now, I am happy to announce that LiewCF.com is back and continues to serve you the latest tech news, money making tips, ticks, and etc! :)

What happened?

  1. The web server was down at Saturday, May 6, 2006, because the hard disk crashed. That’s a VERY rare case, yet it happened.
  2. All the websites hosted on the server, including LiewCF.com was not accessible.
  3. Name server down and then, this domain name was directed to the incorrect site, a website in Arabic(anyone read Arabic?).

  4. In order to reduce confusion, I redirected the domain name to LiewCF.wordpress.com, my idle blog on WordPress.com, and blogged about this issue there.
  5. The server side managed to restore the backup copy of LiewCF.com
  6. I updated this domain name to remove URL redirect, but the name server update took much longer time than I had expected
  7. After more than 48 hours, the domain name is finally resolved. LiewCF.com is back!

Hacked?

No, I don’t think so. It was a serious hardware failure, 3 out of the 4 server’s hard disks were corrupted. Well, anything can happen. The server side did a good job to restore all the files in a short time.

    Its pain when your blog is down and even pain if all your blog post gone. There is some facing this situation. Luckily, thanks for your last time advice. I backup my database using cron. And all my post managed to be recovered :)

    That doesn’t sound like disk crash.
    IMHO, it’s more like the site got hacked.

    Funny thing happened to my friend too. His website went down at about the same time as LiewCF.

    Reason: Hard disk crash.

    Coincidence! My friend’s website is hosted on hive.com.my - different server from LiewCF.

    Anyway, I’d like to commend Liew for going up so fast after a fatal hard disk crash. You must have a good back up system Liew.

    That reminds me. I have not even backed up my DB and contents for ALL my website since last year!! Better do it tonight…
