Snap - slow AJAX search engine with website preview
Filed in: Web — May 16th, 2006
Many peaople are talking about a new search engine — Snap.com. What’s so special about it?
My two cents on Snap.com
- It is the first search engine with big web page preview.
- It integrate sponsor ads into search results.
- It is fully powered by AJAX.
- It is slow. Broadband connection required.
- It offers pay-per-action ads to advertisers.
- It takes two clicks to visit a web page in search results.
- It uses outdated web page thumbnail for page preview
- It keeps you in Snap.com (you can choose to open page in new window)
What others say about Snap.com:
- “…this is definitely an interesting idea but it feels abit sluggish for me as you need to wait for the pictures to load…” — techgurls!!!
- “By combining commercial and noncommercial results in the same column, Snap cleared enough space on its home page to provide a large enough box that will provide snapshots of each Web site that appears in the rankings.” — Yahoo! Finance
- “My quick take is that I’m so used to Google’s dominant interface, I initially got lost using Snap. It takes some time to get the hang of it.” — John Battelle’s Searchblog
Bonus: Snap blog
Snap has an official blog at blog.snap.com, which is powered by WordPress.
