For Windows XP users, this is a tip to make the background of desktop icon text becomes transparent.

Open System Properties in Control Panel, choose the Advanced tab, and click Settings in the Performance section. Turn on the Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop option, and click Ok.

Windows 95/98/ME/2000 do not support transparent icon text background. Win2K users can use a free tool named Transparent. Windows 95/98/ME can use Disappear.

Personally, I recommend Iconoid. It is free, and support all current Windows platforms.

If this doesn’t solve the issue, like I had today:
Discovered that it depends on the kind of background you use. With extension .png the labels won’t get transparent. Instead with a ‘normal’ .jpg extension, windows XP changes it automatically to transparent.
