Bloody Slow Streamyx (Part 3)
Filed in: Malaysia, Tmnet — September 10th, 2006This is the follow-up of my series of “Bloody Slow TMNet Streamyx.
Well, another day of slow Streamyx broadband narrowband connection. Strangely, the connection becomes very fast after 12am.
According to the TMNet service interruption notice, 12am till 6am is the time they perform the upgrade process. Now, this is funny.
What other Malaysians say about Streamyx in September, 2006?
“Its been teribbly(terribly) _ _ slow for the whole _ day, and i’ve been trying the whole day to get an ip address from the 218 ip address pool.” — kukujiao.com
“TMNet announced service interuption for 2 weeks, starting 5th September. They claim to have slow browsing from 12am to 6am. And surfing is like worst than shit since afternoon just now. The whole Miri is affected, as far as I know. I’m not so sure about the other parts in Malaysia though.” — Clueless Dream

Haha, you censored me out …
Just make sure dont let go if you are able to acquire the ip from the 218 and 211 pool…those are fast, even during the day …
am on 218.111.*.*
able to get like average 100kB/s …
was getting the 60 range, average out bout 3-5kB/s sometimes its just not going …
September 10th, 2006 at 4:33 am
hehe… I have to censor the words.
Ya, I also discovered that 218.x.x.x is faster than other IP addresses. I never get download speed at 100KB/s. Maybe it is because I do not use P2P?
September 10th, 2006 at 10:18 am
I’m with 219 IP, it’s smooth so far, no problem on browsing. Well, still not as fast as it suppose to be. I’m wondering what is the real difference between 1MB and 512KB? Because at home town I’m using 512KB, and here 1MB but so far, both of them seems to be same spped for me -__-”

And yea, it looks like the 124 ip is faster than 60 ip here in my area. i cant seems to get 218 or 219 ip here. maybe becos im a new streamyx user.
September 11th, 2006 at 3:47 pm
Never see 124.x.x.x IP address here in Johor. 219 is most common here, then 218, sometimes get 60.x.x.x
September 11th, 2006 at 4:21 pm

September 11th, 2006 at 4:52 pm

September 12th, 2006 at 9:03 am
well my connection was lost on Saturday around 5pm in Puchong….Sunday was a no go too…It only came back up on Monday 8am….And I had made 2 calls to their Customer Service. Their technicians don’t work on weekends, fyi.
September 12th, 2006 at 8:06 pm
My connection started crapping out early last week, but today it’s fantastic. It’s been rather inconsistent over the last 2 weeks, I’m hoping that consistency will improve.
September 13th, 2006 at 10:55 am
I don’t know. I’m in penang and everything has been fine, fast and stable. Anyway Liew, did the TM people response to any of your complaint? (like the previous MCD ppl), like giving you free upgrades to 10MBPS?
September 13th, 2006 at 12:48 pm
limcs: no response from tmnet. btw, my line is ok these few days. Not fast but acceptable.
September 13th, 2006 at 1:57 pm
Today my connection is bad again. I think they must be doing some upgrades (hopefully). In economics this is the Monopoly theory… although there is Time/Jaring/Maxis, coverage is limited and cost is high. Therefore for most of us, there is only one choice - Slowmyx. And when you have a monopoly situation it is either high price, poor service, or both. Just like the Telekom days before they were forced to wake up by Maxis and Digi. Now that they wake up, they find they are 5 years behind others and losing market share. So they do expensive ads to get back market share. It would be much cheaper for them to invest in good service in the first place.
September 13th, 2006 at 2:33 pm
These few days, the TM Net Streamyx is damn slow like hell, even my office using SDSL, the download speed drop to the lowest 100kbps only instead of 1.5 Mbps.
According to the old records, TM Net always announced incorrect maintenance period.
Hope this can be ended soon.
September 14th, 2006 at 1:33 am
same here. slow connection after my router reconnect to 219 ip address. Trying to get 218…
September 14th, 2006 at 3:38 pm
same old slow connection here… before the maintenance already went slow, during the maintenance super slow. still remember my 1st subscription with speed 256kbps is much more faster than my 512kbps now.
September 14th, 2006 at 6:32 pm
it sucks. they are using netenforcer that detects all encrypted data.
September 14th, 2006 at 6:42 pm
change to Jaring ar..
September 15th, 2006 at 1:08 am
i tot 219 is good
anyway jaring have its problem too…coz they are borrowing telekom line for their service as well….just that is is not crowded yet
September 15th, 2006 at 10:08 pm
I’ve heard maxis gonna open a new broadband service soon. But currently there only available in Penang and Klang Valley.
September 15th, 2006 at 10:33 pm
not sure of maxis in penang eventhough i’m a penangites (haven’t heard anybody using it).
My previous employer use TIME broadband, bloody fast, but only can work for some office premises (like gurney tower).
Other than that, I believe we gonna stick to streamyx for few more years

Hi Liew,

Yap yap.. the streamyx really problem.. slow connection.. what happened?

September 18th, 2006 at 9:19 pm
colbert, that is an old news dude…
actually i not sure whether the upgrade has something to do with the 4mb pipe…
and for the 4mb package i just hope the price could be more reasonable…for now 2mb is rm188 and what u guys think 4mb would be?
September 18th, 2006 at 9:58 pm
yes..i am old….Well in Netherlands, a 4MB line is only 14 Euros or RM65..I was there in jan 2006
September 19th, 2006 at 3:13 pm
colbert, what i mean is the news that u bring up is an old news…
is it? only rm65? i thought streamyx is the cheapest internet provider in the world (kind of) eventho the service sux…
man!!!…we should move to netherlands…likewise, tobacco is legal there…damn gud
September 19th, 2006 at 3:36 pm
wow…rm65 is real cheap
I think we will get the 4mb at rm88 when other developed countries had 8mb at rm65
September 19th, 2006 at 9:19 pm
my connection is getting “okay”
November 2nd, 2006 at 9:53 am
Just got an info on streamyx. They have followed standards from other countries. People with 1024 Mbps internet speed will be lowered to 512 Kbps during Peak Times. If your total download reached certain amount (2 Gig), streamyx will decrease your speed as well, which also affecting your web browsing.
I used to go 100 KBps for downloading movies from local malaysia but they limited the speed already.
Based on the info I received from Top Management IT Officer in Kuching, they have installed traffic shaping.
After they put control on our internet used, frequent internet speed go down to the extend the broadband speed is slower than the modem dial-up account. Also, Streamyx has also paused/disconnected our internet connection for a couple of minutes to give other internet user a chance to use the internet. The reason the internet stop moving is because of the traffic shaping equipment they have installed.
According to MCMC, Internet Broadband company must provide an excess for 256 kbps speed at all times. Unfortunately, streamyx speed has been going down less than 256 kbps.
According to MCMC, this already a breach of MCMC Quality Service ACT. We can get our money back for the slowness caused by streamyx.
November 18th, 2006 at 12:35 pm
I think Monaro is correct, because I was getting good speeds like 117 two weeks ago but with many disconnects. Now my speed has been capped to 512 but I getting an average of 27kbps download these 2 weeks with virtually no disconnects. I have 1 Mbps account and I only use my account on weekends(12 days amonth) and they still cap my downlaod speed. Funny thing is my upload speed can reach an average 40kbs.
2GB limit can’t even fill a DVD-R. For a 1Mbs unlimmited account we should be able to download 10.5GB of data within 24 hour that what we are paying but I’m getting only about 2GB per 24 hour with a torrent of mostly other TM net users
This is what happens when the goverment protects local companies they begin to follow the Proton trend o screwing the Malaysian people by lowering quality to make more profit and as Malaysian we are expected to bend over and ltake it.
Well no more, I can’t wait for the next general election, my chance to shove a stick up their ass
September 22nd, 2007 at 3:18 pm
rm65? are you kidding? that’s very cheap!
September 22nd, 2007 at 3:29 pm
My connection started crapping out yesterday, but today it’s amazing.
November 21st, 2007 at 11:11 pm
keep dreaming, live with the fact that we live in Malaysia.
I was in japan until 2002, they started to use fiber optic at home already
I used streamyx since 2005 for 1Mbps plan… and it almost 2008…
still 1Mbps?
….or maybe for the next 2years?
we can complain, but what can we do?
NOTHING
this is what-so-called democratic country
January 25th, 2008 at 3:03 am
Streamyx all-the-time unstable. But sometimes its slow, sometimes fast, depands with the situation of time and place. What a useless.
May 13th, 2008 at 11:06 am
Talk about slow streamyx,
I was a Streamyx 1M user before, but I’m now using Maxis Broadband, 3.5M (like it is, really). The best/highest speed I get for download is around 70kb/s, the average is 35kb/s. I will return the bloody modem to Maxis once the 1-year mark is reached. I will revert back to Streamyx, and to all Maxis broadband personnel, I give you a HUGE 1 Finger Salute! Go to hell! Especially to your founder.
