Bloody Slow TMnet Streamyx
Filed in: Malaysia, Tmnet — September 8th, 2006
I am getting very slow Internet connection since September 7, 2006. My TM Net 1Mbps Streamyx connection is so slow that even a dial-up connection would be much more faster!
At the TMNet website, there is a “Service Interruption” notice which writes, “We wish to inform our customers that TM Net is performing an upgrading exercise to the Streamyx system nationwide from 5th – 19th September 2006 daily from 12:00 a.m. till 6:00 a.m. As a result, tmnet streamyx customers may experience disconnection and slow browsing during the stipulated time period.”
Are they working over time after 6:00am and cause the slowness of Internet connections? Or, they are actually performing a “downgrading exercise” to the system?
My two cents
I can’t do my works without a stable Internet connection. It is very frustrating. Everytime Streamyx is not working, I would miss Jaring broadband service. When will Jaring broadband(consumer) available in Johor?
Update: Some MyPDACafe members are having the same problem.

I bet your connection still isn’t as bad as mine!
September 8th, 2006 at 10:56 am
I once considered to change to Jaring Broadband but I then I read that Jaring is ‘piggyback’ on TMNet’s infrastructure because of the high cost of broadband connectivity, I thought what is the use of changing if the backbone is still the same. Don’t you think so?

TmNut is always like that lor….that is the problem with monopoly, when the government will understand, when business is drop from the sky, workers won’t appreciate how hard is it to get a customer (ie. Proton, MAS)

@grenada: it was caused by Taiwan earthquakes, more details at “Taiwan Earthquakes Interrupts Telecommunications Across Asia“.

Hmm…do you think there is any possibility to gather thousands of Streamyx users to pull the plug on Streamyx? I wish to see such a day…because it’s like a light at the end of the tunnel to me.
Their support sucks, no intergration, no process, no Service Level, no urgency, no matter what you do….you’ll get “IN PROGRESS” but actually NOthing is done. Streamyx….way to GO man….DOWN THE DRAIN.

June 6th, 2007 at 6:18 pm
Yeah .. Streamyx sucks .
Now downloading is even slower than dial up connection .
It gives me 3.06 KB per second and it took 10 hours to download a 100 MB file .

Let me tell you guys the reason. Malaysia can still offer 384K bandwidth? Popular plan at 512K & 1Mbps?
Advanced and developed countries are offering over 25Mbps. including Singapore, New Zealand, Australia, Hong Kong, China. That’s after the government push for competition and unbundling. (some even before unbundling are also running at >4Mbps)
And these countries are aiming for >90% uptake
Where does Malaysia stands? Still Malaysia want to claim to be IT hub? gosh! No wonder Malaysia Telcos are making money…and economic booming (just a little) All at the expense of people welfare. Guess you people should start to demand.
December 13th, 2007 at 5:29 pm
Ooh well, what to do… If we malaysia had more than 4 ISP providers like Singapore, Streamyx surely lost all the customers, and they’ll regret giving us lousy services and try to improve them ( improve the lousyness ).
December 14th, 2007 at 8:14 am
anyone using celcom or maxis broadband? I heard that celcom broadband perform quite well.. just review from other user. I personally use streamyx fixed IP before, that is TREMENDOUS speed and stability I experience. Very Recommended if you need a fast speed and good service but the price is a bit higher.
December 14th, 2007 at 11:58 am
I’m using Streamyx 2M. If the Govt allows a peaceful demo for better Internet connection, please count me in.
December 14th, 2007 at 2:37 pm
Everyone i am paying RM77 for 1Mbps service.. but it is really lousy.. i dont understand how they can still survive.. … because no competition!!!
Just like astro.. they keep on increasing the price.. they monopolize the market!!

This TM big company still becoming only big ‘CHEATING’ company(earn a lot of big money from you and me all) is because of we all are innocent. My 1 Mb /384kb package (Rm110 per month)) average the download speed is around 10kb(not over), no matter how to setting the network speed or install software. Although they earn a lot of big money, they still want government use our Malaysian’s tax money to help them to improve the service. The second president agree that signed the contract, is more than 10,000,000,000 (news have show).
Compare to other country, 8MB/640kb package is at around RM41.00.
Detail is show at >

I am running an I.T. training centre whereby need internet connection for online exam. That stupid, damm Streamyx caused my students to delay their exam, furthermore they can’t go back hometown because unable to finish the exam!
Why not Celcom & Maxis try to compete with Sreamyx? At least dun let them monopolise the market!
