Wanted: Dell 2407WFP 24-inch LCD Monitor
Filed in: Gadgets — November 29th, 2006
You might already know that I have been thinking of getting a 20 inch widescreen LCD monitor in the past few months. I changed my mind now. I should get a 24 inch widescreen LCD monitor instead.
Why 24″ inch widescreen LCD monitor?
After attending Ebay Explained! 2006 event, I went to Low Yat Plaza. I found a few of 20 inch widescreen LCD monitors. I was disappointed because 20-inch widescreen monitors are only slightly wider than my current 17 inch LCD monitor.
Then, I stumbled upon an Acer’s 23″ inch widescreen monitor. Wow! Bigger is better! The size is perfect to fit two web browser windows horizontally.
The Acer monitor was cheap. Only around RM2000. However, it was a low-end monitor with limited input, and a non-adjustable stand.
After trying the 23″ inch monitor, I added Dell 2407WFP 24″ inch widescreen LCD monitor into my wishlist!

Size comparison between 17-inch and 24-inch LCD monitor
Currently, Dell 2407WFP cost RM2599 or USD799(compare prices).

I am using a 20″ LCD now.
Like Josh, i also have 32″ LCD monitor. It’s TV with VGA input.
My father bought an Avanza and that Sony Bravia LCD TV was
given free with it. Hahaha… we was quite lucky. The actual price tag,
about RM 6000 or around RM5000.
The quality was the best. It’s very same with a computer LCD monitor
accept it’s bigger! Hahaha, i thought i will take a long time to move the
mouse from one side to the another.

I wonder what is the different between LCD TV and LCD monitor…
@malaysian food review: yup, it is 24″ widescreen monitor.
@CLF: ya.. me too

@LcF : Actuly… they are quite same. Only one thing, you do know that VGA connection is not as fast as the one that LCD monitor usually have. So, if you want ultimate high speed graphic mostly for Game, you should use the LCD monitor.
But in case you want to surf the web, do grapic design… whatever… it’s very nice to have a large LCD TV with you.
Regarding the quality and sharpness, it’s mostly the same. In case if you want a larger one, do get a LCD projector. LCD projectors price are going down rapidly these days! I have one too and it’s very nice… LOL!

@Jaynier: you mean DVI vs. VGA input? I know DVI produces better quality because it is digital.
LCD TV is expensive. LCD projector? Wow… I would need an extra room for it!

@LCF
LCD TVs seem to be less expensive per inch than the monitors. My 32″ tv was onsale for $900 about 6 months ago. I have seen the same one now on sale for $800.
@Jaynier:
I also use my TV for graphic design, web design, and surfing the web. Besides the fact that it can be so bright that it burns my eyes (jk) it works great.

You don’t need a 24″ widescreen monitor. What you need is dual monitor system and get two of those 24″ widescreen monitors. Take a look at what Lynn is doing.

[...] Although Dell E228WFP is big enough to view two A4 size windows simultaneously, it has the same resolution as a 20-inch LCD monitor. Also, remember that Dell E228WFP’s stand is a non-adjustable. It is a very important feature for me. So, I still keep my eyes on the Dell 2407WFP 24-inch LCD monitor and pray for price cut. dell, lcd, E228WFP, monitor, malaysia [...]

The diff between LCD TV and LCD monitor is the resolution supported.
Higher resolution means you can set the desktop icon to become smaller but the font still visible and clear. In same case, the font might become blur for the LCD TV.
