Fully Managed Dedicated Server Hosting
Filed in: Site News — April 16th, 2007
I got my first fully managed dedicated server hosting! In fact, you are reading LiewCF Tech Blog on the new server since a week ago.
Yup, two server migrations in a week. As you know, my website was causing high server load on the reseller server. It was not only due to the website traffic, but also many random server attacks to my website.
I took the decision to skip VPS (virtual private server) hosting and upgrade to a fully managed dedicated server hosting. “Fully managed” means tech geeks will manage the server for me at 24/7. I do not need to manage the server, yet I can have the control over my server whenever I want to.
Server specs: Pentium 4 3.2Ghz, 1GB RAM, 120GB SATA Hard Drive
Not a high end server but more than enough to run my clients’ websites and mine. The provider also installed PHP optimizing modules and attacks filter scripts on my server.
The server uptime in the past week is 100% and server response time is under 100ms. That’s great!
Now, I have to make more money to cover the more expensive hosting fee.
PS- What is your ideal hosting package? Please tell me.

1. please ensure you have backups for your data, as sata hard drives aren’t meant to be used in a 24/7 hosting environment.
2. you could do with abit more ram so you can have a larger mysql query cache.

That’s great, it’s always better to have a dedi and safer if you experienced digg traffic.
which company did you go with in the end?

Congrats! I’ve 2 dedicated servers at the moment, and trying to ditch the smaller 1 if I can sell all the websites on it – resizing my business.
Anyway, my main server’s hosted in Florida, US:
- Dual Xeon 2.8GHz
- 2GB ECC RAM
- Dual 160GB HDD (secondary for backups)
- 2TB bandwidth a month
I upgraded the server because of increasing traffic (close to 35,000 visitors/day) and hacking attempts just before Chinese New Year. Now paying US$250/mth for my main server and US$160/mth for the smaller one.

My web hosting was up for renewal and I was checking on this nice site called http://whois.sc to find the number of sites sharing the server.
I had randomly given your site only to find “dedicated hosting”. I didn’t realize that you shifted to this plan recently

I noticed your blog load faster. Congrates
I am in the process of moving from unmanaged dedicated to fully managed soon. But once I improved my administration skills, I’ll move back to unmanaged.

it hits me pretty hard when i was forced to move to fully dedicated server..
my server is Pentium D Dual Core Processing with only 1Gb RAM..and don’t like the current service provided..my bandwidth is only limited to 1Mbps (unmetered)..think should get those metered bandwidth with top limit more than 1Tb per month..
my audience is mostly local in malaysia so i am hosted on a local provider.. but thinking of moving somewhere else..anyone has ideas?
