Google AdSense Accidental Clicks Clarification

Google AdSense blog made a clarification on accidental clicks in response to publishers confusion about placing ads near navigation controls.
In Google AdSense optimization wise, the following ad placement near site navigation links are accepted by Google AdSense:

However, Google AdSense advises publishers not to place their ad units too close to clickable content that increases the users’ accidentally clicks on the ad instead of site content. Google asks publishers to maintain sufficient distance between AdSense ads and clickable elements on the page. A lot of invalid clicks would caused your AdSense account be banned.
How much is “sufficient distance”? Because every site is different, Google does not reveal an exact value for the distance between AdSense ad units and page elements. It is up to publisher’s judgment to decide. I would say 5 to 10 pixels is safe.
Google AdSense also showed an example of ad placement that is high risk to generate accidental clicks:

The high risk ad placement is a DHTML drop down menu above a Google AdSense Leaderboard ad unit that overlap the AdSense ad when opened. It has been clearly stated in Google AdSense Program Policies that “Elements on a page must not obscure any portion of the ads.“

actually, this is a good post because sometimes, we forgot to “read back” the T.O.S. …….yeah, nobody want to get banned from Google.

This morning I read some reports about Google redefining the clickable AdSense area to minimize accidental clicks.
“With this change, Google wants to decrease accidental clicks. This has the short-term potential of lowering your AdSense revenues, but I think it’s a good move. Not only because it’s more ethical, but also because in the long run advertisers will be more likely to pay for services that work, and accidental clicks are a kind of system bug. I’m curious how much my AdSense income will drop, I guess all those of us using AdSense will see in a day or two.”
