Adult Sites Found in The Star Online Directory

August 30th, 2007 | Category: Malaysia, Web | 3 Comments

The Star Online is the popular online newspaper website in Malaysia. It has a web directory but my friend discovered hidden adult categories in the web directory. That’s exciting! :P

For example, Sexuality category is found at:
http://directory.thestar.com.my/cat.asp? /Adult/Society/Sexuality/
(warning: link contain adult materials)
Anyway, the Adult category is not found on the web directory homepage.

Why TheStar Online keep the adult links?

My friend asked, “How can a corporate site contain adult materials?” If you notice the footer links of TheStar directory, you will discover that the directory link database was pulled from Open Directory Project (dmoz) using Engine Promotion script.

Meaning, TheStar directory imports whatever links have on Open Directory Project, including the adult links. The webmaster simply creates a directory front page that exclude link to Adult category.

However, the adult links are not removed and anyone (you!) know the backdoor still can access them. ;)

The Long Down Time

August 29th, 2007 | Category: Site News | No Comments

server goes down
This is a quick update regarding the previous down time of LiewCF.com and the other websites on the same server. The server’s Apache service was down at 1:12am, 29 August 2007. It was up again at 1:27pm. The total down time is 12 hours 37 minutes. It was due to a possible bug of cPanel that does not restart Apache probably when it is down.
