Help Translating WordPress dot com
Filed in: WordPress — August 7th, 2007
I stumbled upon WordPress.com Translation while browsing WordPress.com for VIP hosting. It is a project where people who speak English and another language can make WordPress.com available in their language of choice for themselves and their country. A WordPress.com ID is required.

According to the language rankings, only translations of two languages have been 100% completed: Espanol and Bahasa Indonesia. What surprised me is that Chinese is one of the lowest ranking language. Nobody does the translation huh?

我尝试加了几个,待得空的时候会再去看看有什么翻译。
积少成多,大家都翻译一点点,很快应该就翻完吧。
中文的翻译比较慢,可能是很多中文部落客不知道吧。

The main reason why certain languages are not translated fully could be because it is FREE! Another popular blogger platform actually hired a reputable company to do paid translation for major languages to ensure quality and consistency. Even if a single person translates all the strings, without proper QC done, we would never know if the strings are correct, follows convention or even subscribes to popular usage. All said, I dont think wordpress will ever pay for translations, but what the users can do, other than volunteering for translation is that to do their own checks. Do a regular QC and email the folks on any error you find.
