Donation to Wikimedia Foundation

November 29th, 2007 | Category: Charity, Web | 13 Comments

As promised, I made a donation with the collected 27th Birthday Fund. The donation goes to Wikimedia Foundation, which operas Wikipedia and other Wiki-projects.

Why give to Wikimedia?

I have been thinking about who should receive the donation since I have collected the money. I saw the Wikipedia fundraising banner before, but what caused me to make this decision is the following picture on the Wikimedia fundraising blog “Why Give to Wikimedia?

CNET UK: Windows Vista is the Top Terrible Tech Product

November 28th, 2007 | Category: Microsoft, Windows Vista | 18 Comments

Microsoft Windows VistaIt has been 9 months since Windows Vista launched in Malaysia. Are you a Vista user yet?

There are many complaints about Windows Vista, the Microsoft’s latest operating system. Last week, CNET UK listed Top 10 terrible tech products and Windows Vista is listed!

Its (Windows Vista) incompatibility with hardware, its obsessive requirement of human interaction to clear security dialogue box warnings and its abusive use of hated DRM, not to mention its general pointlessness as an upgrade, are just some examples of why this expensive operating system earns the final place in our terrible tech list.

I am not sure if it is author’s bias or the truth. My younger brother loves my Vista Box and has no complaint about it.

Are you a Vista user? What do you think?

Firefox 3 Beta 1 and Firefox 2.0.0.10

November 28th, 2007 | Category: Downloads, Mozilla | 1 Comment

Firefox logoI just updated Firefox 2 to version 2.0.0.10 from 2.0.0.9. The minor update fixed 3 bugs to improve the stability of Firefox. No new feature.

On the other hand, Mozilla released the 1st beta version of Firefox 3 at November 19, 2007 — Firefox 3 Beta 1. It is the next generation of Firefox web browser with many new and improved features.

I tried Firefox 3 Beta 1. It looks great but is not compatible with many Firefox add-ons, even tried forcing to be compatible using Nightly Tester Tool. No choice. I reverted to Firefox 2 in just a few minutes.

One shall wait for the final release version of Firefox 3. According to the release roadmap, it will be released at late 2007 or early 2008.

Off topic: Just checked my blog taffic statistic yesterday, 42% site visitors are using Firefox!

Paglo - The Search Engine for IT

November 28th, 2007 | Category: Downloads, Reviews, Web | 2 Comments

Paglo is a free IT management system (Yes, I like Free things!) that allows you to collect data, manage, and maintain all IT devices, applications as well as users’ information all at a glance!

Paglo - The Search Engine for IT

It is also integrated with an open source supersearcher agent that probes your network for devices and other IT assets, and discovers everything about them. This means you could search and compile your whole company’s IT information and display the results as charts, lists, or tables within few clicks.

Cool, isn’t it?

Why use Paglo?

When you have more devices, applications, and users to manage, the more headache you have. It’s not on support wise, but is on information management wise. If you work for medium or enterprise level company, I am sure you will agree with me.

For example, do you know how many devices are running Microsoft Office 2003 in your company ? Or, how many computers that need upgrade to 2GB RAM in order to support Windows Vista ?

With Paglo, let it become your IT wingman and work for you without extra budget :) They make your life simpler and easier.
