CNET UK: Windows Vista is the Top Terrible Tech Product
Filed in: Microsoft, Windows Vista — November 28th, 2007
It has been 9 months since Windows Vista launched in Malaysia. Are you a Vista user yet?
There are many complaints about Windows Vista, the Microsoft’s latest operating system. Last week, CNET UK listed Top 10 terrible tech products and Windows Vista is listed!
Its (Windows Vista) incompatibility with hardware, its obsessive requirement of human interaction to clear security dialogue box warnings and its abusive use of hated DRM, not to mention its general pointlessness as an upgrade, are just some examples of why this expensive operating system earns the final place in our terrible tech list.

I am not sure if it is author’s bias or the truth. My younger brother loves my Vista Box and has no complaint about it.
Are you a Vista user? What do you think?

Well to be honest i did try Vista but found it ran a lot slower than XP even on my fastest machine (dual core 2.5Ghz, 2Gb ram, 7800 GT). The only 2 things i really liked about it was the sidebar and the RSS feed stuff, but both of these are available (in one form an another) for XP. So i have decided to wait until i upgrade my PC next November and see how it runs then, until that i’m XP all the way.
I did some beta testing of Vista and was really looking forward to the release, this was mared bu the lack of driver support unfortunatly.

i think i will stick on to my window xp…
until i upgrade to 2Gb ram, then only i try whether can run smooth or not…
currently my system will Ahtlon 64×2 4000+, 1GB ram and 256MB 8500GT, but still lag when running vista…

I am using it on my laptop and I am thinking of switching it back to XP. I hate it!
The features might looked great when you start using it but when you really wants to optimize your productivity with it, you will find great problems within the GREAT FEATURES!

@Wayne Liew: what kind of problems?

I have been using Vista for few months and it seems ok to me.. though XP is a better product. Definitely does not deserve to be the WORST tech product

Using Windows Vista with my newly purchased (at that time) office computer made me decide I had to stop using Windows, if this was the way Microsoft was taking it. A few months later I bought my Macbook Pro.

At first, I thought Vista is cool, but then after a month of using it. I think it’s not. I hate the security dialogue box, and the networking with Windows XP PC is damn difficult, till now still can’t connect yet.

I have a new laptop and I didn’t have a choice - Windows Vista came with it. My printer is not working, I don’t have drivers, whatever… The laptop is crashing 5x times a day, IE constantly anytime I open it. I have to use Firefox. Any advice would be appreciated. And yes I do have the antivirus protection:(

I have been using Vista since April and I find it just okay and it’s below my expectations of what the next generation of “new” Windows would offer. I also did the beta testing before it was launched. Some “new” features like the Aero interface is not necessary IMHO, just another fancy stuff. In terms of user friendliness, XP is a lot better. Compared to XP, sometimes it’s harder to use, Networking is a very good example. The Security Dialog is excessively annoying. And having 2GB of RAM doesn’t seem to help much after a while, as usual. IE7 working fine, but I use Firefox as much as I can simply because it’s easier. And I just found out Ctrl-Shift-Esc brings up the Task Manager directly in Vista. Yeah, after 6 months. Not a top 10 terrible tech products though. Absurd.

Most of people those say Vista is OKAY was a New User. Or people who not so advanced in PC .
I’ve tried my friend original Vista cd , is it okay or not for me before i bought one. Yes it’s Teribble graphical interface but HORRIBLE! in all other side.
My 2gb ram seems nothing!. Ram hunger, cpu resources eater etc.
So im back to my XP with classic theme . i can spend my ram memory for better thing.

As many have said it after my comment, crashes because of the “cool” desktop features and also the consumption of RAM (due to dwm.exe for all the cool features).

I was setting up a gaming PC for one of my sponsors just the other day, installed Vista 32bit version (can’t remember which vista was it) and it was terrible.
Change hardware, aihh come that stupid Activation Key thing again.

I am SO glad that I held off on trying Vista! I think I’ll keep XP until I see what Microsoft comes out with next.
I work as a graphics artist and my XP laptop with 2GB of ram can BARELY keep up with me. I don’t think a computer running Vista would have a chance!
I have used vista a little when helping my coworkers with their new computers. … Vista does not seem very user friendly when compared to XP and 98, and the way it handles security and other issues is so darn annoying!
I will give it this much credit though. If they were super-cheap, I would be willing to buy a computer with vista for my daughter. I hear it has good parental controls.
