TMNet Streamyx ADSL Modem Light is Blinking Frequently

Filed in: Tmnet — November 13th, 2007

Recently, I am not productive in work. The main reason is because I have been having bad Internet connection since last month.

The TMnet Streamyx broadband connection is very unstable. It disconnects very often and have problem staying connected for a couple hours, plus it is hard to reconnect. The modem DSL light is blinking very often. The phone line has noisy noises.

I made a report at Telekom Malaysia at Oct 23, 2007. The contractor came on the next day to check and fix the problem. They changed the phone socket box to a new one (RM5) and test the line. It was okay.

But, just as soon as they left, the phone line was noisy again and the DSL light was blinking. *shrug*

At the next day, my mother received a call from Telekom asking whether the problem has been solved or not. She doesn’t know Malay language. “Tak tau. (means: don’t know)”, she answered. No more call from Telekom again after that.

After patiently waiting and praying, I cannot stand it anymore. I made another report by dialing “100″ and found out that my previous report has been closed without our confirmation. That’s not good. Anyway, the receptionist re-opened the previous report and promised to send technicians over.

Let’s wait and see how long it takes to fix the problem.

Trick: when your modem DSL light is blinking, you can pick up the phone that uses the spitted line. Strangely, the DSL light would stop blinking!

My two cents

My first impression is that Telekom source out all the technical support work to its contractors. Calling to phone support line does not bug you to check your connection settings again (or, it is because I have a previous opened report?), they simply send the technicians. As as result, the customers get faster technical support than last time.

However, not all contractors are knowledgeable to solve your connection problem. The contractor that came to my house seemed rush and didn’t listen to me. He insisted that the phone socket box was the cause, changing it would solve all the problems. It had been proven that he was wrong.

Hopefully, the problems could be solved at second attempt. I hate to see the blinking DSL light again!

P.S. Some friends in big towns told me that their Streamyx connections have become faster than before now. That’s good news for them!

I can give streamyx one word: LOUSY!
The upload speed I checked with streamyx speedometer = 10kbps
Sometimes I just couldn’t upload anything during nite time and weekend.
    I subscribe to 1Mbps package.

Liew, when you call to TMNet , they sure ask u check this check that. The best is ask them “reset port” for you! They can reset from their side, and you may try to access streamyx after 10 minutes. Let share with us whether this resolve your problem?

my streamyx alos not in good shape, it has been unstable for a few month, there is one time i cant log in for 2 weeks due to modem blinking problem, i reported it to them, and guess what, they told me to scan my pc, and the thing that made me pissed off they didnt sent anyone to fix it till i need to call a few more times and went to the branch office near my area, and the worker are so arrogant like they are paying for my bills, what i can see there is they just keep walking here and there, and ignored me and my mom, like we are stumps. Last month it happen again, so i called 100 even i already know the respond, and again we went to the office, and they said they didn’t received any complaint. We don’t want to make anytrouble there and just leave the modem and the splitter there, even inside me I’m almost explode of anger. In fact, even writing this comment, the modem still blinking, but when the for bill it will come right in time in my mail box in front of my house, but compared to the service they serve, it totally sux!!!!!

How is the quality of your DSL signal, like SNR Margin and Line Attenuation?

If they are too low, you have to renew the phone cable, in this case it is Telekom’s matter.

I also have problems but hate calling TM Net. So, what I did was went out and buy a new modem from Linksys (around RM100) ‘cos the one I have now is 5 years old (the free ZTE from TM Net). LOL, maybe it is not my modem problem but I lost the line for a whole day so geram lor.

    Andrew Says:

Also had exactly the same problem. The splitter was the culprit. I now connect directly to the phone line. Only connect the phone when I need to make calls!

Another reason could be you are in a lightning prone or flood area. A tech told me that some of the fiber optic cables they use are prone to reliability issues in such conditions.

    Hi,
I also facing same problem. You know, during Deepavali, my line keep blinking. This happen only when i use streamyx. 2 minutes disconnect once. Really disappoint with their lousy service. When i call 100, nobody answer. Maybe all streamyx technician is Indian…..?

For Penang people, they are more lucky, because they can use another service, PenangFon. I heard that their speed is faster but cheaper!

    Hi Tze Yin,
I actually stay at Butterworth and i really hope PenangFon can come here……. It is actually suitable for people staying at apartment because they no need to install any converter. And PenangFon user can use BT also. Compare to Streamyx, if you use BT, your network immediately down! But if i use Xunlei, still can run a bit…..haha

eh… how come all of you have problems with streamyx 1? In my office, we are using the RM66 package and is link to 10 PCs. I would say the connection is ok & so far we don have any problems.

but then at home I m using Maxis 3G, the connection is very very bad, slow & keep on dc… Somemore I have to look for a strategic location for better connection, eg the connection in the one of the room is always better than any other place in the apartment and then must make sure the windows is open. However, the speed i get is much more slower than what I have in office…

Previously im also have similar issues with streamyx operator

Tips When you dialling and talking to the operators:
When they asking you about your problem, then straigth forward tell them (with high voice)what exactly your problem and tell them also all basic stupid instruction already been taken by your side. Give them 2 choice either to restart the server or send technical support to your house(cakap cara kurang ajar sikit).Normally for my case they will rstart the server in 5 minutes time and my connection become normal again and sometimes more better.

Liew for your case im suspect you have bad connection between your tm port outside your house. When they come try force them to look at that

    1)Socket outside your house
    2)socket at your (tiang telekom)
3)Connection at main streamyx port(normally in radius 5km from your house)

    dear Liew,
Actually I have similar problem “blinking streamyx” .I cannot use my streamyx for nearly one month. I made several reports and calls to TM.They only send their technicians after 3 weeks, but fail to solve the problem even they manage to get stable connection. They repair my phone line at a cabinet in my area. They conclude that my modem is rosak, even I have test it in my office and no problem.

The funny thing was, my wife claimed that she was the one who fixed it since I set the modem to be auto login and she manage to use he streamyx after the technician left. heheh . Read my full report in my blog.

for wireless broadband, my friend told me that, if u have a 3G connection in your area than it is advisable to get one, if not just forget it

I have the same *stupid* problem with tm. dsl light keep blinking every 5 minutes. I’ve called tm and they sent their technicians and i was told that the line is faulty, so i asked a contractor to change the line (RM100….gone). But the blinking is still there, and it will happened randomly 5 minutes recursively. So i called tm again..and again and again and they seem reluctant to help me..one time i called them..they answered politely but ended my conversation in a hurry (HANG UP ON ME). I think this tm net customer care personel dont know anything and its up to us to figure things out. I took the time to search about SNR, line attenuation, networking and even bought a new router to use DD-WRT. The modem db102 also i did a flash for its chipset with redboot…… BUT STILL THE LIGHT KEPT BLINKING…. AND NOW I TOTALLY GAVE UP AND MY CONCLUSION IS TMNET REALLY SUX

    DigitalProductsCenter.com Says:

It is true that TM loves to blame the users. To them “Customers are not always right”.
When I upgraded to Streamyx 2 Mbps I was billed for both 1 Mbps and 2 Mbps for about six months despite my calls/email. I was told that my application form for the upgrade was not done properly. My reply was that the form had clearly indicated an upgrade and that it would no longer be possible to surf at 1 Mbps because I was given a new password. What I didn’t (was tempted) say was that “You are a stupid idiot because nobody would surf at 1 Mbps when I was paying for 2 Mbps!!!”
I do hope that the TM fellows are not going to check my website to get my phone number and call me that my account would be terminated.

I’ve spoken to Tm’s representatives and they obviously dont know what they’re doing. They followed my suggestion to change the modem. I’m a business administration grads for GOD sake, i dunno sh*t about computers but what the heck, i will drop by the TM office and get the modem on 13th April. I will keep updates on this site, stay tune to my saga….. am i going to end up having a stable yellow light or shoving this crappy streamyx thingy up their ***.

TM tech team arrrived yesterday only to find out that my internet connections is dead alltogether. no internet at all. error 678. But they proceed to change my modem.. reiger to billion. After a while they found out that DSLAM is faulty (wtf i’ve been telling them for the last couple a month). At about 4.00 pm my internet connections was restored but the blinking adsl light remains…but at random interval, sometimes i can stay online for more than an hour. I kept the modem’s log and while i’m surfing to day there’s no blinking till now…. hope the conditions will get better…I’m off to work.

    ctl022 Says:

Add this streamyx account into one of those lousy Streamyx services which include blinking lights for Modems every 5 minutes. If there’s any litigation to go after streamyx for compensation, pls include my account here. All users who are affected by this recursive 5 min disconnection, pls add into this blog. With enough names, lets get the money back.
Meanwhile who knows what is the next alternative? PenangFon is out as limited to aprt. Look like only Celcom, MAxis or Digi if they have one. What else is there now? JaringBB?
