Update: TMNet Streamyx ADSL Modem Light is Blinking Frequently
Filed in: Tmnet — November 14th, 2007
This is an update about my previous complaint about frequent disconnection of TMNet Streamyx line. The technician came to my house at the next morning after I made a call to TM phone support.
According to my elder brother, they replaced the whole phone line from the phone post to my house. (I was sleeping. :P) After the replacement, no more noisy noises from the phone line. The Streamyx connection was fine for 2 hours after the technicians left.
Well, the line is more stable now. Less disconnection and easier to connect back after disconnects. I will try it for a few days. If it becomes worse then I will make another call.
Change router modem for better connection?
By the way, I suspect the old ADSL modem is guilty as well. We have been using the ZTE ADSL modem from Telekom for a few years.
Maybe I should take my friend’s advice to get a branded broadband router with modem for a better connection. He claims that better router modem can gives more reliable and faster Internet connection. The current ZTE modem would be a backup modem then.
Any recommendation for broadband router with modem? Linksys WAG200G looks good (RM240 or USD71).

Go for D-Link ADSL modem-router, that is the best. Mine is a D-Link Wireless ADSL router-modem which I have used for nearly two years now with no problems at all.

Better go to Linksys, if not D-Link is second choice,

I agree that the modem is affecting the connection quality, my connection improved after I changed to a new ADSL router

I have been using a USB ADSL modem. It doesn’t have a network connector only pure USB. Been working fine and it doesn’t have any disconnection problems, unless screamyx servers goes down for the count. Maybe you should get one like mine.
Downside is that you won’t be able to use WIFI, Routing or whatever the network ADSL modem can do.

I suspect TMNet know you are a big celebrity blogger. One complaint and they change the telephone line for you. I complain and complain but my line quality still as poor. Wish I could change the telephone lines too as I think that’s the major problem. Lots of crackling sounds.

I recommend Belkin. It provides Lifetime warranty. I’m using the all in 1 Wireless ADSL 4 port router modem. No problem at all. It would be a liltle pricey compare to other brands. The “Lifetime warranty” comes 1st in my mind.

One more thing to add, “It seems that you all are Linksys super fans, huh!” Please dont shoot me back.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will get a Linksys router modem.
@Mr. Rajawang: my ZTE modem is about 4 year old!
@KennyP: TMnet or TM also the same number: 100
@kljs: thanks. I tot USB modem is not good. Anyway, my home network need a router.
@Andrew Ooi: I doubt Telekom know me. The phone line and Streamyx account is registered under my dad’s name. Maybe I have better contractors here?
@Mr Henree: Yes, Belkin router is one of the best too. I don’t advice to buy a product because it has so called “lifetime warranty”. Note that if the product has been discontinued, there is no warranty for you.

I am using a Netgear router. Love the interface and firewall rules. You should try it. Sure beats linksys routers

Hi. I came to your page while I was doing some Google searches regarding my current Streamyx connection issue. Almost the same as yours, the ADSL light kept blinking, and the connection is very terrible when it’s raining.
I’m installing a wireless router in my house soon. So before that, I would like to know whether it’s my modem problem or it’s the internet line problem.
Looking forward to your next update regarding your Streamyx connection issue. All the best to both of us in solving this. LOLz.

Dear Liew,
Do you pay for the replacement of the cable?
For me, it’s included in my next bill.

I called the Streamyx hotline this afternoon. The technician guy came this evening and checked using his modem, said the line is perfectly stable and it is mostly due to my modem problem. So I went out immediately after some short surveys online and came home buying a Linksys WAG200G at RM260.
FINALLY~
1 desktop and 2 laptops going online for the whole night just now without dropping the connection at all! =D

@Silverlsle: glad that your problem has been solved. I bought WAG200G for RM239.

I have been subscribing to Streamyx for 1 1/2 year. Changing modem for 3 times already because the blinking issue. So far, have tried with the brand Billion and Rigel, given by TM. The 3rd one, less than 3 months use, it started to blink again. Not sure if this is a “lousy” brand, or line issue. Anyone could comment on this? think of getting good modem after all this.

Me…registered early Jan this yr, until today cannot get the net access. Called TMnet, they told me that they have problem with cables. Huh! Doesn’t make any sense at all. I live very close to city center (at Ampang Hilir, surrounded by embassy’s residences) and yet, unable to get connection. Am using RIgel modem (comes free with the Streamyx) and as usual, the LINK led is blinking all the time. Dont’ know whether its really a cable/network problem or something just not right with the modem. Till today, no one come to look and fix the problem.

Heard that Belkin is offering lifetime guarantee, not bad ma after considering it. The only concern is the brand might not work for my “twilight zone” line. Modem found “kapuk” in my line, wservice center, ork perfectly well at the service center after complaining. I don’t think there is any dealer that would dare to warranty for lifetime on my lousy line. There must be disclaimer hidden at the *. I guess the dealer would say it is my line issue, not a modem issue, go to fix your line.
