17 Year Old Malaysian Boy Made RM10,000 in a Month

Filed in: Make Money Online, Malaysia — January 29th, 2008

advertisement

labanonLabanon, a 17 year old Malaysian boy, has successfully made RM10,000 (USD3,083) online in a month. Most of the income generated from an ebook he published. Other income is from his freelance design projects.

This is a truly “Malaysia Boleh!” story. While friends are still getting pocket money from their parents, Labanon is probably earning more than his parents! Eventhough the ebook sales will fade out by time, Labanon will have more e-products coming.

This is Internet, age is not important but your skills are. Labanon has the skills: Internet marketing, graphic design, copywriting, etc. If you can put your skills into products then you can make money online.

Anyone is taxable under the income tax act if I’m not mistaken, as long as they’re earning money in Malaysia, what more to say if you’re tax resident in Malaysia. I’ll go through the Income Tax Act and see if there’s any age limitation.

Well, since Labanon is young, I guess he avoid the hassle of paying taxes if he didnt buy any expensive asset, like a car or a house. If you buy such assets, usually you’re screen through and yes, somehow the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) knows that you’re buying such assets. However, one have to earn at least RM23k-RM24k of income annually before they’re taxed at RM1. But that is if you’re not claiming any other reliefs lah (other than the automatic personal relief of RM8,000)…

@Raymond: Please don’t be confused with online income and foreign income remitted to Malaysia. Your online income is taxable under the Income Tax Act because you’re blogging in Malaysia. It is considered as a business operating in Malaysia, therefore it is taxable. The reason there’s exemption for foreign income remitted to Malaysia in the Act is because it is assumed that you’ve paid tax in that foreign country. So, if you’re not taxable in that country for that income you produce, consider yourself lucky, cos you’re not taxed in either country.

    calvin Says:

yes, you gotta pay tax, if not. how can you buy a car or a house? they would question you on the source of income… unless you don’t want to buy a house or car for the rest of your life…

I was think, would be it a better idea to set up a company and channel the money to the company’s account and spend first, say pay yourself RM2499 per month and the rest use it for house or car loan, i believe, you would not have to pay income tax then… right?

    a very good discussion idea.

    LcF Says:

@Planet Malaysia: I DO report my income and pay income tax. :)

As long as you are living in Malaysia and getting income, you need to do income tax. Here are examples:

    1. My dad is working in Indonesia whole year, therefore he DOES NOT need to pay income tax in Malaysia, but still need to report.

    2. My income is coming from oversea but I live in Malaysia, I HAVE TO pay income tax.

I hope this make the thing clear. :)

    Notty Girl Says:

Any income remitted to Malaysia is taxable in Malaysia, even if it is a foreign source income. However, there is a uniteral relief or bilateral relief which you can be claim for the foreign source income(condition apply), depends on any Double Tax Agreement sign between Malaysia and the country which your income from. The foreign source income is EXEMPTED to tax in Malaysia only if there is Permanent Establishment in that foreign country and few others conditions apply.

A chargeable person refer to any company/body of person/individual who have any income derived/remit from/to M’sia, no age limit. Just that if a person is under age of 18 and is receiving income, then his/her parent cannot claim the child relief for that person.

    Hopefully I am correct.

    Notty Girl Says:

Correction: the word “remit” should be “received”

LcF, your dad is not taxable in Malaysia because his employment income is derived outside Malaysia and he is Non-Resident in Malaysia for that Year of Assessment. Therefore his income is exempted from Malaysia Tax, but I believe he is taxable in Indonesia.

PS. Non-Resident doesn’t mean he is not citizent.

If set up a company and use the company account to pay for house and car loan, the amount may not be deductable as they are capital expenses. Further, the interest for corporate loan usually is higher than the individual loan.

walawei! RM10,000… such a big number for newbies. I don’t know wether it is true or not because he asked me for adsense tips last month. Why don’t he buy a camtasia and record his earning? i’ll trust him after that. RM10,000 is not a small number. If he made that number, to buy a camtasia should not be a problem for him…. and he should not ask me for the adsense tips. Better you check before you make a blog post. Thank you.

Many of us reading in this forum are person more or least wanting to do Internet Marketing, because we heard too much says about IM is earning big money. We all do believe this Thinkings.

But ask yourself, so much we read, either from LiewCF.com of other IM inspired blog or website, how many of us really sit down, cracking our head and jot down notes and start doing IM? Some have started but halfway stop because of one ‘dunno-why’ reason <–erhhmmm. eg. myself :(

Guys, I believe this Labanon is someone with good self discipline kid that start from scratch to RM10k a month. If we want to earn the same, start doing the same :)
