April 24th, 2009 | Category: Malaysia, Technology | 11 Comments

cs4_design_prem_student_boxshot.jpgAdobe Systems announced the launch of the Adobe Creative Suite 4 Design Premium Student Edition at a new recommended retail price of RM399, up to 80% off the recommended academic retail price of RM2,359.

Available for both Windows and Macintosh platforms, the Adobe Creative Suite 4 Design Premium Student Edition software contains full versions of the following products: Adobe InDesign CS4, Adobe Photoshop CS4 Extended, Adobe Illustrator CS4, Adobe Dreamweaver CS4, Adobe Flash CS4 Professional, Adobe Fireworks CS4, Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro, Adobe Bridge CS4, Adobe Device Central CS4 and Adobe Version Cue CS4.

Adobe Creative Suite 4 Design Premium Student Edition is available immediately to all higher education students (full-time or part-time) in Malaysia, who are enrolled in an accredited public or private university or polytechnic institute that grants diplomas or degrees requiring at least two years of full-time study.

Students can purchase the Adobe Creative Suite 4 Design Premium Student Edition from the following resellers of Adobe products:

  • Prestariang Systems Sdn Bhd (muse@prestariang.com or 03 8314 8442)

Please visit www.adobeasia.com/my/students for additional information on purchasing terms and conditions.

My two cents

Adobe Systems has the great software but they are well known for its high price tag. It is a great move to cut the software price for students.

Note that the software included in Adobe CS4 Design Premium Student Edition is same as normal edition($2,313.00 USD) but a lot cheaper!

Thumbs up for Adobe! (Wish I am a college student now…)

Malaysians, Your Blogging Income is Taxable!

April 19th, 2009 | Category: Make Money Online, Malaysia | 18 Comments

It is April and the time for income tax filing for Malaysians. Do you know that your Internet/blogging income is taxable?

I have been paying income tax for years since I became a full-time blogger. While some other bloggers may argue that the Internet income is not taxable in Malaysia. My dear pretty accountant says the different.

She actually did a research to confirm that Internet income is taxable, and publish an article(Chinese) in 2008.

In short, “As long as you are making money in Malaysia (e.g. online at Malaysia home), your income is taxable in Malaysia.” And, “Every income is taxable, either local or foreign.”

As a full-time blogger, “blogging” is my personal business. Therefore, any expenses on the “business” is tax deductible, such as web hosting, Internet access fees, computer, online services, etc.

You may refer to the tax deductions list at Problogger.net.

If you need PRO accountant to help you, you may contact my beautiful accountant. She would be happy to help you, if she is free.

PIKOM PC Fair 2009 (I)

April 18th, 2009 | Category: Events, Gadgets, Malaysia | 8 Comments

PIKOM PC Fair 2009 (I)Last week, I went to the PC Fair 2009 (I) held at KL Convention Centre, Kuala Lumpur.

PC Fair showgirl

What I noticed in PC Fair 2009 (I)

  • DSLR everywhere. there were many people bringing their DSLRs, flashgun to take pictures of the showgirls. I didn’t bring mine and I would be too shy to ask the girls pose for me.
  • Less showgirls. Compared to previous PC Fair, I saw less showgirls this time. Is it due to the economic crisis and the companies are cutting cost?
  • Less buying. It was still very crowded but I see less people were buying. They came out PC Fair with empty hands.
  • Broadband war. Malaysia broadband providers (wired or wireless) were compete in PC Fair. They had the largest booths and hired most sales persons. I rather hope they will improve service quality and coverage area first.

What’s new in PC Fair 2009 (I)?

I don’t see many new/interesting gadgets in the PC Fair. Notebooks and printers are the main products. Netbooks are RM200 cheaper than previous PC Fair.

Asus promoted EeePC 1000HE on their brochure but it hasn’t yet available in Malaysia… Very disappointed.

More booths were selling GPS products. Only one of them has the GPS data logger (used to record your positions during trip) but overpriced. GPS data loggers are priced less than USD$100 in USA.

The 1st Malaysian blog-ping aggregator, Project Petaling Street (PPS) has been sold, 3 months before its 6th year of service (12 June 2009).

PPS sale letter

The new owner, who prefers to stay anonymous, contacted me last week and sent me the copy of sales letter. The buyer prefer to keep the sales price in private but I can tell you that it is a very good buy. I would buy PPS at that price too, without blinking my eyes!
