October 14th, 2008 | Category: Gadgets, Life Log | 20 Comments

Last year, I showed you my blogging workspace with Apple iBook and 24-inch LCD monitor. My workspace has been changed slightly after I got my Apple iMac 24-inch.

Here is my new blogging workspace with Apple iMac 24-inch next to Dell 24-inch Ultrasharp LCD monitor. Means, I have 2 x 24-inch monitor which make up a total of 3840×1200 pixels screen resolution!

I am Quitting Blogging

“I am quitting blogging.” A friend told me some time ago. He started blogging 3 months back now and wanted to call it a day.

“What?” I am kinda surprised.

“Yes. You heard me right. I am quitting blogging. In fact, I have deleted the contents of my blog. It’s clean now. Empty. Nothing in it.”

“Why? It’s been only 3 months. Don’t you think it’s too early to throw in the towel?”

“No, lah. I had enough already. I am not even sure I did the right thing by jumping into this blogging thing in the first place. I have less than one dollar in my Adsense income and it does not seem to grow. Plus I am also running out of idea to write so my blog is as good as dead.” It seems like there’s no turning back for him.

3 months passed. One day, he came back.

“I am blogging again.”

And so he did. And after another 3 months, guess what, the same thing happened again. He told me he doesn’t to write again. I am not sure if he would ever come back.

This friend went a full circle from writing his first blog entry into making a full stop – twice - in a space of a year, and still ended up nowhere. Had he continue writing short entries in his first blog twice per week, in a year his blog would have grown into having more than 100 articles. Within a year his blog would have a page rank, some link backs, generated a few loyal readers and his income is very likely to grow if he monetizes it right.

It’s very true when motivators said that many people in their life quit at the tip of their success. Just think of the time we boil water. For a good 2 minutes, as the water is heating up, we barely see any changes. But on the molecular level, the H20 particles are agitating, chemical bonds are breaking and once the temperature hits 100 degrees, there’s no stopping it to boil.

The 3,000th Blog Post

March 7th, 2008 | Category: Life Log, Site News | 36 Comments

This is the 3,000th blog post of LiewCF.com.

3000

The 1st blog post on this site was published at March 8th, 2004, exactly 4 years ago. It is hard to believe that I have published 3000 blog posts here.

As far as I can remember, I started blogging at 2003. Later, switched to current domain name and changed hosting due to web server failure.

The blog is growing up with me in the past years. From unknown to popular; From not making any cent to making handsome money. I am glad that I didn’t give up blogging. :)

I also shared a lot of my stories here. If you know how to dig them out, you will be stunned by the information/stories I shared in the past. They are my history and the best way to know me.

Of course, I must say “Thank You” to you all. Thanks for your continuous support.

Making Money While I was Not Blogging

March 5th, 2008 | Category: Make Money Online, Site News, Weblog | 17 Comments

I am a fulltime blogger but I was away for a long time and didn’t update my blog at all. Did it affect my online revenue? Not really. In fact, I am still getting the same amount of money while I am doing nothing. Dream job, right?

adsense earning when no blog update

The above is part of the line chart of my AdSense earning for the days while I was away(6th - 27th Feb). The total earning for each day might look vary a lot, but the average earning is same as the normal days.

How about the site traffic? Just like the AdSense earning, there is not much different on site traffic while I was away. The site is still getting same amount of pageviews even I was not blogging.

LiewCF.com traffic for Feb 2008

The above graph is generated by Google Analytics for LiewCF.com during the away period. As you see, It is a stable straight line throughout the days.

10 Reasons To Blog With Mac

I’m a 7 month old Mac user but the satisfaction it gives me makes me hate being Windows user for more than 1 decade. I personally think it’s pretty fair why Mac machines or Apple product are slight more expensive than the rest. For long run sake and user experience, they are really worth it. I personally own iPod touches, iPhone, Macbook and several Apple accessories I have to say they pretty much communicates (sync and connects) with each other very well and let’s not forget the nice and sleek designs.

As a blogger, Mac has efficiently help me in may ways. I’ll sum them up in 10 reasons why you should be blogging with Mac. Full list after jump.

Terminal

Terminals are great tool and they comes with Mac OS. This light SSH application helps you easily connect to your blog web account, doing tasks like backups, reboot server, edit files. It even does FTP so you don’t need an extra FTP application.

Group and view by application type

In Windows you can group applications of the same kind together in toobar but it just gives you a list view when you click over it. In Mac, you don’t have to group them manually. On any active application window, just hit "F10" and it will show you all application-of-the-same-kind. For example if you have 3 images opened in Photoshop, just go to one and hit F10, you’ll see the all 3 as overall. Simple click on any and that will make it the current-active. Pretty convenient if you swap from files to files.
