I watched Quantum of Solace with my friends. If you like action movie, you will like this one too. The cars chasing, bullets shooting, building exploring… You won’t want to blink your eyes and missed the scenes.

The story? I don’t quite understand it until I read the synopsis after I was home. This is normal for me. I rarely understand 007 story line by watching the movies.

IMDB has summarized Quantum of Solace story in a sentence “Seeking revenge for the death of his love, secret agent James Bond sets out to stop an environmentalist from taking control of a country’s water supply.”

For the technology in the movie, none has surprised me. However, I like the “touchscreen table” (looks like Microsoft Surface) and the interactive glass when Bond is calling “M”.

I like the cute car (Ford Ka) drove by Camille (Olga Kurylenko), the bond girl. The phone is Sony Ericsson with fancy phone source tracking and GPS. By the way, Bond uses no gadget this time.

10,000 BC the movie was a disappointment. Do not watch it if you have not. It is not as great as what is seen from the movie trailer.

Synopsis

In a remote mountain tribe, the young hunter D’Leh (Steven Strait) has found his heart’s passion – the beautiful Evolet (Camilla Belle). But when a band of mysterious warlords raid his village and kidnap Evolet, D’Leh leads a small group of hunters to pursue the warlords to the end of the world to save her. As they venture into unknown lands for the first time, the group discovers there are civilizations beyond their own and that mankind’s reach is far greater than they ever knew. At each encounter the group is joined by other tribes who have been attacked by the slave raiders, turning D’Leh’s once-small band into an army.

Driven by destiny, the unlikely warriors must battle prehistoric predators while braving the harshest elements. At their heroic journey’s end, they uncover a lost civilization and learn their ultimate fate lies in an empire beyond imagination, where great pyramids reach into the skies.

Here they will take their stand against a tyrannical god who has brutally enslaved their own. And it is here that D’Leh finally comes to understand that he has been called to save not only Evolet but all of civilization.

10,000 BC movie review

Last Thursday, I watched “10,000 BC” with my friends. We were attracted by the movie trailer. We thought it was a great action / adventure movie with amazing Before Christ(BC) animals. Not quite right.

It is about the journey of a young mammoth hunter to rescue his love and his tribe. It was a rather long and boring journey, only that the people followed him becoming more and more. There are only a few scenes of the giant mammoth, at the beginning and the end of the movie.

Unlike what shows in the 10,000 BC movie poster, you will be disappointed if you expect for the fight between the young man and the saber-toothed tiger. We laugh out loud when he said to the tiger, “I save you but you don’t eat me”.

I thought the final attack against the so-called “God” would be exciting, but I was wrong again. The final war ended in 3 minutes, and it takes only a second to kill the “God”.

Gosh!

Do you know who is the greatest person of the story? Not the mammoth hunter. It is the wise old woman of the tribe, Old Mother. Why? “because she knows everything anything, even without a computer or satellite!”, said my friend.

Rating: 2 out of 5 (the CGI of the mammoth is great!)

I am back from KL at Monday. I went to PC Fair 2007, watched the movie “Golden Compass“, and met some college friends.

PC Fair 2007 (3)

I went to the PC Fair with my brother and 2 college friends. We were quite disappointed.

No new gadgets, no new technology. No games, no lucky draws, no interesting activities, and no hot showgirls (opps!). It is more like year-end stock clearance sales.

The computer companies were focusing on sales of notebook and LCD monitors. The accessories sales are mostly notebook related such as portable hard disk, notebook cooler, etc. Also, wireless broadband services are everywhere in the PC Fair.

I bought 2 eneloop rechargeable battery by SANYO.

Golden Compass, the movie

I watched the Golden Compass movie with my brother at KLCC TGV cinema after the PC Fair. There was a long queue, luckily we booked the tickets the day before. “The one knows the tech, the one who skips the queue.”

We quite enjoyed the movie: the journey of a girl to save her friends, the secret of golden compass, the bear fight, the daemons, etc.

Although many people complain about the “to be continued” story, I think it is normal for a movie based on a thick book.

Afterall, the original book titled “His Dark Materials Trilogy“. So, expect 3 parts of the movie?

By the way, my sister got a special edition of Golden compass clock at GSC cinema when watching the movie with her boyfriend. The clock looks nice but not a high quality product. Nice for collection, not good for daily use. I wonder if my sister would sell it on ebay or not?

His Dark Materials Trilogy (The Golden Compass; The Subtle Knife; The Amber Spyglass)

Met Guang Liang (光良)

Before I forget, my brother and I met Guang Liang (光良) the singer at Sungei Wang, after I bought a CD of Pin Guan (品冠), who is Guang Liang’s ex-partner.

He was there to promote his coming concert at Genting Highland. He looks so small size and unnoticeable in the crowd.

I suggested to my brother that we ask Guang Liang to sign Pin Guan’s CD and see what’s his reaction… OK, that’s a bad joke. We didn’t do it at the end.

I watched Rush Hour 3 the movie with my friends at Thursday night. We used to watch movie as a gang but that day my friend invited his girlfriend-wanna-be too. He joked that next time he would want to watch alone with the girl. Duh.

Image: Rush Hour 3 movie

Like the previous series, Chris Tucker is in charge of making jokes and Jackie Chan for the actions in the movie. Jackie Chan is so serious in the movie that only smiles once at the last minute of the show.

Somehow I felt that Rush Hour 3 story line is similar to Jackie Chan’s movies in Hong Kong. There is no breakthrough. Maybe I watched too many Jackie Chan’s movies?

Anyway, it is still an entertaining movie that makes you laugh out loud. But, some nudity scenes and dirty jokes might not suitable for your kids. Genevieve (Noémie Lenoir) is hot!

Image: Rush Hour 3 (2007) – Noémie Lenoir (credit: IMDB)

On the other side, I expect a young and cute girl to be Soo Yung, which casted by Jingchu Zhang.

I agree very much to helmutty‘s comment at IMDB:

The jokes are the best in the movie, nothing else. With all the jokes, this seems to be more of a comedy more than a action movie. Even when they are fighting, they do not take things seriously. The only change is the event takes place in Paris. Other than that, this movie seems to be recycled.

I do not remember exactly the previous series. The only thing I remember is that John McClane (Bruce Willis) is a never-die hardcore detective. This time, he takes on a team of high-tech terrorist team (hackers) who wants to shut down the whole U.S.

I was quite surprised and enjoyed the fights of “analog” (Willis) and “digital” (hackers). Though not sure how realistic it is, but it is amazing to see what can be done after hacking into the top government systems. Hmm… it recalled my dream to be a hacker last time. Shhh…

By the way, Maggie Q (Mai) is gorgeous! In the movie, she is a beautiful hacker with sexy voice and skillful kung fu.

Due to the nature of a tech blogger, I often pay attention to the tech stuff in the movie. Nokia phones are highlighted in Die Hard 4.0. The terrorists use only Nokia N90 and Matt Farrell (Justin Long), a young hacker who assists John, uses Nokia 9300 PDA phone for satellite access and mainframe hacking. Oh, I love the “base” of Warlock (Kevin Smith). That’s very cool!

P.S. I learned how to steal a BMW car.

Die Hard 4.0 synopsis: On the July 4th holiday, an attack on vulnerable United States infrastructure begins to shut down the entire nation. The mysterious figure behind the scheme has figured out every modern angle – but he never figured on an old-school “analog” fly in the “digital” ointment. Bruce Willis is John McClane. No mask. No cape. No problem.

Beside the official website of Die Hard 4.0, the movie also on MySpace and Second Life, two of the most popular community sites.

Plot Outline: When his new father-in-law, King Harold falls ill, Shrek is looked at as the heir to the land of Far, Far Away. Not one to give up his beloved swamp, Shrek recruits his friends Donkey and Puss in Boots to install the rebellious Artie as the new king. Princess Fiona, however, rallies a band of royal girlfriends to fend off a coup d’etat by the jilted Prince Charming. [IMDb]

300 movie synopsis

“Based on the epic graphic novel by Frank Miller, 300 is a ferocious retelling of the ancient Battle of Thermopylae in which King Leonidas (Gerard Butler) and 300 Spartans fought to the death against Xerxes and his massive Persian army. Facing insurmountable odds, their valor and sacrifice inspire all of Greece to unite.” — 300 trailer

300 movie review

The movie is very violent. There are many scenes of hand cut off, blood flash and flows in slow motion, cut off head rolling in the air, and headless body lie in front you… Therefore, 300 is rated as 18PL in Malaysia and R rated in USA.

300 is about men and war. You see 300 strong, handsome and sexy men fighting to death for their love and home. I think most guys would like to be one of the heroes deep down their heart. For women, I think you will enjoy watching the muscular men. Too bad, the flowing blood would probably a turn off.

Hmm… I will watch 300 again when I am under pressure. Maybe, in my heart, I wish to be the 301th?

You might have heard about the song “Deja vu” by Beyonce Knowles, but no, I am not going to talk about the song. This is the movie, Deja Vu.

The term “déjà vu” (French for “already seen”, also called paramnesia) describes the experience of feeling that one has witnessed or experienced a new situation previously. I am sure this is a familar mysterious feeling to most of you. Sometimes when I experience it, I really cant’t tell whether it really happened or it’s only my illusion. It freaks me out sometimes.

Synopsis

This is an action-thriller movie from producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Tony Scott, written by Terry Rossio & Bill Marsilii.

The movie started with a scene of happy people preparing to board the New Orleans Ferry. But tragedy happened when the bomb on board planted by a psychotic patriot set off, and resulted 543 casualties. Not a very pleasant way starting I must say. Doug Carl (DENZEL WASHINGTON), an agent of ATF, is assigned to recover the evidence of the after bombing, but he is further involved in the investigation of the crime when he knew more things could actually have been done.

During the process of investigations, he discovered what most people believe is only in their heads is actually something far more powerful. There is actually a machine that allows them to look back to the past in ‘live’ form, they even attempted to send a warning note through the machine from the present to past, which has also led Doug to a journey of the past to save hundreds of innocent lives. I suggest you to pay extra attention to the scene which they explain how they use energy to go back to the past.

Did he succeed in stopping the explosion by sending himself back to the past? Would he live in the end? The ending of the movie is quite unpredictable, but I shall not be a spoiler here. You gotta watch it yourself! The main actress in the movie looks remarkably like Halle Berry, but, I have not seen her in other movies though.

If you have always been a fan of Denzel Washington, you have probably also watched his classic movies like Crimson Tide, Remember The Titans, Training Day and Man On Fire. As always, Denzel Washington is always the hero in the movie. In my opinion, although his role in this movie is still quite “Denzel” style, but the storyline of this movie worth some stars. There is a phrase in this movie that impressed me a lot, which is, a patriot is always another country’s terrorist or something like that. Come to think about it, it is really true, isn’t it? Otherwise why would wars, bombings, happen everywhere?

If given a chance, would you be brave enough to go back to the past to turn back the time? Could fate really be changed? Would you still like how you turn out many years from now?

My friend, HuiXin (Bear the Pooh‘s author) was invited to special screening of the movie “Monster House”. Here is her review.

Mounster House special screening ticket

Last night, I had the opportunity to watch the premier of the Monster House at Cineplex, The Curve. The ticket was given by my friends so a bunch of us went. I had never been to Cineplex before as it is new, and since I am staying closer to One-Utama, I’d rather go there for movies.

Warning: Possible spoiler ahead?!

The story depicts a house that eats kids or whoever gets near to it. A group of 3 kids, DJ, Chower and Jane decided to do something about it. And their adventure began! This is actually a story about an over-protective loving husband ( Mr. NebberCracker ), who fell in love with a giantess, Constance. Everyone disliked the giantess because she was shrewd. It was otherwise for the Mr. NebberCracker, he even rescued her from the circus! They were so in love and he decided to build a house for Constance, but she fell to her death when she was fighting with some kids who got near to her house. However, her souls remained in the house to haunt, and the husband stays put to protect the neighborhood kids from being eaten up by his wife. In the end, Mr. NebberCracker decided to blow his monster house out to free everything before it gets out of hand.

The storyline was quite interesting, but the graphics weren’t as good as I thought it would be. The characters weren’t cute looking either. But their motions are very natural. The Mr. NebberCracker somehow resemblances Golumn from Lord of the Rings!

I am not really a big fan of animated movies, but worth a watch if you are one. How should this movie be categorized? Adventurous, scary or love story? You decide.

Trick or treat!

Just watched “Flightplan” with my brothers. It is a nice movie, I vote it a 4 out of 5 points.

In this modern retelling of a classic urban legend, a mother finds herself at odds with a unremitting flight crew and her own sanity when her daughter vanishes in the middle of a flight, with only a few clues left behind. She must now challenge the boundaries of her will and her mind in her desperate search.

Thought

The story is special and memorable. The whole story is happening in the airplane. It shows you the hidden parts of a airplane. It reminds me about the “September 11th”. It shows you that a mother can do anything for her child. It shows you how great is a mom… But, I feel that the ending is… too simple. A bit disappointed.
