With the new partnership of Canonical and Dell, soon you can order a Dell desktop or notebook with pre-loaded Ubuntu Linux operating system.

The Dell-Ubuntu computers will be shipped with Ubuntu 7.04 (codename: Feisty Fawn). It is the most user-friendly Ubuntu to date and includes Windows migration assistant, wireless networking support and improved multimedia support.

Google’s free photo organizer, Picasa, is now available in Linux version.

Picasa for Linux runs the current Windows version of Picasa using a carefully tested version of Wine, an open-source implementation of the Windows application-programming interface (API). Wine runs on top of the X Window System and Linux or Unix. But it’s not a Windows emulator; instead, it provides a Windows API middleware layer that enables Windows programs to run on Linux without the slowing effects of OS emulation or a virtual machine.

Thanks to WINE, you can run Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 on Linux quite well by now. Techblogging shows us the instruction to install Internet Explorer 6 on Linux.

• Get recent wine.
• Add a new user named “windows” to your system.
• Use gksu -u windows xterm to open a shell as the windows user.
• Download dcom98.com and ie6setup.exe, save them to /tmp.
• Type the following commands:
  cd
wget http://www.kievinfo.com/2/ie6_overrides.reg
wine regedit ie6_overrides.reg
wine /tmp/dcom98.exe
wine /tmp/ie6setup.exe
exit
• Now, you can run IE by following command:
  gksu -u windows wine C:\Program\ Files\Internet\ Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE
