Beware of “Verify Your TM Account” Email Phishing Scam

May 16th, 2012 | Category: Security, Tmnet | No Comments

Email phishing MALAYSIA – This is a public service announcement. I received an email from Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) asking help to spread the word about a recent email phishing scam that asks TM customers for their user account information.

The email claims to be from TM with subject titles such as “Verify Your TM Account” and threaten to shut down the user’s account if their account details are not “verified”.

TM would like to clarify that this email does NOT come from TM or any of its subsidiaries. TM would like to advice customers who receive the scam email message to delete it immediately, NOT to respond and DO NOT click links in the email.

If you have been contacted by anyone on this matter, please immediately report and verify this by calling TM UniFi Centre at 1–300–88–1221 for UniFi customers or call TM Customer Support Centre at 100 for TM Streamyx customers.

Telekom Malaysia (TM) has announced that a cable fault has been detected on Asia-America Gateway (AAG). Hence, it affected the Internet connection speed and latency to websites hosted in United States, North Asia and Europe.

TM is re-routing connections to alternative cable networks. AAG cable fault should be fixed within this month. Please be patient or send your angry words to [email protected], or [email protected] for UniFi customers.

Malaysia. TM Streamyx broadband connection is extremely slow recently due to the cable fault on the SMW4 submarine cable network. It is expected to be fixed on Sunday, 2 May 2010.

While we are waiting for it to be fixed, I show you 3 ways you can to do to improve your Internet speed.

1. Reconnect to get new IP address

While not scientifically tested, some IP ranges get faster speed that the others.

Try to reconnect your Streamyx connection then test speed at SpeedTest. I get a better speed after reconnections. Reconnect again if the speed become slower.

2. Use TMnet proxy server

Proxy server is a caching server which keep copies of visited web pages. By applying proxy server, you can load a website faster if it is already in the cache.
