How would you submit your resignation letter? Microsoft’s ex-employee, Karen Cheng has a cool idea. Send resignation letter via a song using her own lyric and published the video on Youtube.

Video and full lyrics after the break.

I think she has a good voice.

Here is the full lyrics:

Long, long lines of code
It can take a while for Excel code to compile
I am glad I’ve had the chance
To make the cells and numbers dance, and maybe make some customers smile
But the time has come to close this chapter, beer and chips and hallway laughter
Feelin’ a little blue, I will miss my feature crew
Sound of typing and mouse clicks, taco Fridays in 36
Now it’s time for me to go
Goodbye, product studio

So Bye, bye Excel and I
It’s been 3 good years, oh how time has flown by
With devs in the hall drinkin’ whiskey and rye
Singin’ forever recalc or die, forever recalc or die

Together we made Excel 15,
And we bleed proud forever green, for the world’s calc machine
Gotta listen to my heart it knows
Time to shake up my status quo, I am hopping on a plane to San Francisco
The next time that I touch a spec will be at a startup called Exec
My PM days have expired, I’ve taken a job as a designer
My last day is the 24th, please see me for anything you need before
And after that don’t disappear, please do contact me here.

So Bye, bye Excel and I
It’s been 3 good years, oh how time has flown by
With devs in the hall drinkin’ whiskey and rye
Singin, Forever recalc or die.

Ever since Apple announced Siri, the voice control assistant, on iPhone 4S event. We are curious about how well it works. Will it work as advertised? Macworld’s Jason Snell records a 12 minutes video to demo the Siri technology in details.

My two cents

Siri definitely works better than I expected. The error rate is low, according to the video. (Well, Siri think iPhone 4S as “iPhone 4 ass” in speech-to-text demo.)

Note that the Siri’s information about restaurant, cinema, shops are pulled from Yelp. Siri most probably can’t give you recommendation outside supported countries. Siri also use Wolfram Alpha database for complex calculations, world’s facts, data, etc.

Now, the ultimate question: Will Siri works with our non-US/UK accent or not?

What happens when two robots meet and talk with each other?

The researchers at Cornell University have two artificially intelligent Chatbots (Cleverbots) talking to each other and recorded a funny video: Chatbot vs. Chatbot.

Watch the chatbot vs. chatbot video after the break.

While many people find it amusing when the male chatbot said “I am not a robot. I am a unicorn”, I prefer the following statements by the female chatbot:

“Not everything also can be something. For example, not everything could be half of something, which is still something, and therefore not nothing.”

Let me know if you understand what she is talking about.

Google created a musical doodle (Google logo) for Freddie Mercury’s 65th birthday at 5 September 2011.

Freddie Mercury (born Farrokh Bulsara, 5 September 1946 – 24 November 1991) was a British musician, singer and songwriter, best known as the lead vocalist of the rock band Queen. As a performer, he was known for his flamboyant stage persona and powerful vocals over a four-octave range. As a songwriter, Mercury composed many hits for Queen, including “Bohemian Rhapsody”, “Killer Queen”, “Somebody to Love”, “Don’t Stop Me Now”, “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” and “We Are the Champions”.

If you have missed the 1-day-only Google doodle, I have recorded it and uploaded to YouTube. Watch the music video after the break.

Clicking the play button of the logo and it would play an awesome animated MTV of the song “Don’t stop me now”, which was written by Freddie Mercury and it’s one of the most popular songs of Queen band.

In case you haven’t realized, the flying Macbook Air doesn’t exist. Here is the flying Macbook Air behind the scene video.

4 iPads are used to assembly her “iPad head” (that’s heavy!). The videos displayed on the iPads are pre-recorded, I guess. What do you think?

What will be your reaction if you spot a hot girl with iPad head on the street? Will you take photo with her? Swipe her iPad head? Or, just walk away?

Apple Retail Store is the best place to test-drive and explore and getting help about Apple products. Mark Malkoff tested the tolerance level of Apple Store by ordering (and eating) pizza in the store, having romantic date with wine, pasta and live music played in the background, dressing as Star Wars’ Darth Vader to get his iPhone fixed.

Currently, Apple Retail Store is opened in 11 countries: USA, UK, Japan, Canada, Italy, Australia, China, Switzerland, Germany, France, and Spain.

iFixitYourself has a tutorial to show you how to replace the hard drive of your aluminum Intel iMac. But, even with the video, I don’t think I wanna DIY.I am using an Intel iMac 24-inch since 2008 and the hard disk is almost full now (thanks to my RAW format photos). I have been thinking about replacing the internal 320GB hard disk (only!) to a larger hard disk, say 1TB or a much faster SSD disk.

According to my past online survey, it is difficult to replace Intel iMac hard drive. It is not designed to be user friendly DIY hard drive replacement.

Anyway, today I stumble upon a tutorial video by iFixitYourself “How To: Intel iMac Hard Drive Replacement” which claims, “Replacing the hard drive in an aluminum Intel iMac is not nearly as hard as you might think it is.”

Okay. Let’s see how “easy” it is. Watch the video below:

First of all, you need to have the correct tools (1m12s). There are many screws need to be loosen, and many connectors that prevent you to disconnect parts inside iMac body.

After watching the 5:40 minute video, I got a conclusion: “It IS difficult to replace Intel iMac hard drive by myself!” I would rather pay a professional to do the upgrade, instead of messing it by myself.

Anyway, I would only upgrade my iMac’s hard drive when I got a new Mac. I am considering an Apple notebook, probably MacBook Pro.

By the way, if you own an MacBook or MacBook Pro, it is rather easy to replace the hard drive by yourselves. Check out the DIY video tutorial here.

Have you ever DIY upgrade your computer? What’s need to take extra cautions?
