Ever since Apple announced Siri, the voice control assistant, on iPhone 4S event. We are curious about how well it works. Will it work as advertised? Macworld’s Jason Snell records a 12 minutes video to demo the Siri technology in details.

My two cents

Siri definitely works better than I expected. The error rate is low, according to the video. (Well, Siri think iPhone 4S as “iPhone 4 ass” in speech-to-text demo.)

Note that the Siri’s information about restaurant, cinema, shops are pulled from Yelp. Siri most probably can’t give you recommendation outside supported countries. Siri also use Wolfram Alpha database for complex calculations, world’s facts, data, etc.

Now, the ultimate question: Will Siri works with our non-US/UK accent or not?

The researchers at Cornell University have two artificially intelligent Chatbots (Cleverbots) talking to each other and recorded a funny video: Chatbot vs. Chatbot.

While many people find it amusing when the male chatbot said “I am not a robot. I am a unicorn”, I prefer the following statements by the female chatbot:

Google created a musical doodle (Google logo) for Freddie Mercury’s 65th birthday at 5 September 2011.

Freddie Mercury (born Farrokh Bulsara, 5 September 1946 – 24 November 1991) was a British musician, singer and songwriter, best known as the lead vocalist of the rock band Queen. As a performer, he was known for his flamboyant stage persona and powerful vocals over a four-octave range. Apple Macbook Air is so light weight that it can even fly! Watch the video of the flying MacBook Air after the break.

Flying notebook is cool but, based on the video, it might not be a good idea. You would need a weightier to keep the Macbook Air on desktop, instead of flying to the roof.

Wall-E movie is one of my favorite. The little robot is not pretty, doesn’t speak, but it is extremely adorable.

DJ Sures turns a Wall-E toy into life using EZ-B Robot Controller suite. The Wall-E robot functions through voice activation, and uses a built-in eye camera to recognize motion, faces, and colors. He can whistles, sighs, moans, and dances!

iFixitYourself has a tutorial to show you how to replace the hard drive of your aluminum Intel iMac. But, even with the video, I don’t think I wanna DIY.I am using an Intel iMac 24-inch since 2008 and the hard disk is almost full now (thanks to my RAW format photos). I have been thinking about replacing the internal 320GB hard disk (only!) to a larger hard disk, say 1TB or a much faster SSD disk.

According to my past online survey, it is difficult to replace Intel iMac hard drive. It is not designed to be user friendly DIY hard drive replacement.

Anyway, today I stumble upon a tutorial video by iFixitYourself “How To: Intel iMac Hard Drive Replacement” which claims, “Replacing the hard drive in an aluminum Intel iMac is not nearly as hard as you might think it is.”

Okay. Let’s see how “easy” it is. Watch the video below:

First of all, you need to have the correct tools (1m12s). There are many screws need to be loosen, and many connectors that prevent you to disconnect parts inside iMac body.

After watching the 5:40 minute video, I got a conclusion: “It IS difficult to replace Intel iMac hard drive by myself!” I would rather pay a professional to do the upgrade, instead of messing it by myself.

Anyway, I would only upgrade my iMac’s hard drive when I got a new Mac. I am considering an Apple notebook, probably MacBook Pro.

By the way, if you own an MacBook or MacBook Pro, it is rather easy to replace the hard drive by yourselves. Check out the DIY video tutorial here.
