Compare Microsoft AntiSpyware with Ad-Aware and SpyBot

Filed in: Microsoft — January 11th, 2005

FlexBeta.net have compared Microsoft’s recent announced Microsoft AntiSpyware Beta with two popular free anti-spyware tools, Ad-aware and SpyBot – S & D.

Though still in beta, Microsoft AntiSpyware was able to detect more infected files than the current leading anti-spyware applications in the market today, Ad-Aware and SpyBot S&D. AntiSpyware’s user interface is better looking than both SpyBot and Ad-Aware, not to mention much easier to use than SpyBot. Though Microsoft AntiSpyware was able to use better detection than both Ad-Aware and SpyBot, there is still the difference of cost between the three. Ad-Aware and SpyBot offer great performance for free, yet when Microsoft debuts its AntiSpyware application, it will require a subscription fee.

Thought:
Hey, I thought MS AntiSpyware is free! Sorry for my stupidness. :P
Seems like Microsoft team Giant Company done a good job in AntiSpyware. I would like to use it, IF it is free. Oh yes, now it IS free for the beta version.

Anyway, as the author said, you may need more than one anti-spy softwares to clean more spywares.

Updated: Removed MS team credit. Thanks, Izuan.

I think it’s unfair to call it MS Anti Spyware, and give credit to M$, since all they did was buy Giant Antispyware and slap a name on it ;)

I still prefer ad-aware professional. I have tried MS Antispyware and it is not really efficient enough. ad-aware always does a good job by removing every spyware, even those which are created by microsoft itself inside a cookie. MS Antispyware doesn’t remove cookie that are created my Microsoft to collect details of customers visiting their website.

I tried MS antispyware and don’t believe its as good as Ad-Aware. I ran the MS and then the Ad-Aware and Ad-Aware found what MS missed. I reversed the scans also, Ad-Aware first then MS. Ms came up blank after Ad-Aware. Think I’ll stick with the free Ad-Aware.

How disappointing. MS should come out with free programs to patch up their system from spywares. But instead, soon we have to pay for it.

    HEY GUYS,

recall what they taught us in computer security 201.

LAYERED SECURITY is the best… meaning that you need several different programs to keep your security at it;s highest level.

I run ms spyware and spybot and also have norton firewall up and running at all times,

    All the best
