OS X — If you have a slow Internet connection or limited bandwidth quota, you may want to tell OS X not to automatically download software updates in the background. I will show you how to do it in 3 simple steps.
- Goto System Preferences… (click on the apple icon at the top left corner), click Software Updateicon.

OS X Software Update
- Untick “Download newly available updates in the background”

Disable OS X updates background download
- Close the window. Done.
Now OS X will check for new software updates but no automatic downloads in the background. No more worry about exceeding bandwidth quota allowance.
