Hmm… Seems like I need to trademark “LIEWCF”? What do you think? Will you trademark your domain name?

you should have seen this coming, well, get it trademark then take action, but i doubt the law would be on your side, because you trademark the name after that person register the name LiewCF.net

My biggest worry is the possible scams from the domain. It cost too much to trademark the name. I will leave the LIEWCF.NET. By the way, I have registered LIEWCF.ORG

first step I took when my site osx-e.com become popular before is registered all popular top domains ie osx-e.net and osx-e.org. Apart from to avoid the spam, it might make you lose some traffic from search engine if people searching for liewcf, the liewcf.net domain might come on the top result than liewcf.com

Lesson is if your site gets popular, maybe one should quickly register the equivalent .net .biz and whatnot domains before someone else does

you could try offering him money to buy his domain. Let him earn a little.

As he is also doing it to gain some profit.

I think the owner of LiewCF.net is trying his luck if you would buy this domain name from him.

Don’t worry about the .net registration, Liew. It’s actually good news that it was a domain holding company trying to monetize residual traffic and not a real competitor writing a blog about the same things… THAT would have been a problem. So in a way, they are preventing a real competitor from grabbing the .net name, and they won’t develop the site, just “park” it to see if it yields anything.

On the other hand I’m surprised that you didn’t register the .net version, since you are (or have confessed about a year or two ago) that you are a professional blogger, meaning you make a living out of this. But in case you want to feel better, neither YouTube nor MySpace own their .net or .org … so stay cool!

Hurm….this is not good,i think you should realise once you get popular there’s always bad hand outside there who would like to exploite your popularity.

I suspect the owner of that domain wanted money from you….anyway you can always refer forumers at NamePros.com as they are expert about domain name.

My best advice:register all top domain name extension that refering your main domain name.

    regards

Yeah, Max is right. Luckily its just a domain holding company. I don’t think you need to worry about scams if its that.

They may be trying to hold it hostage, though. I’m not sure if you can Trademark a name, but since LIEWCF has become a brand, you may be able to. Even with a TM, you’d need to fight anyone who takes your domain (.net) either in court, by settling, or though arbitration. Sadly, arbitration costs somewhere around $1500 and is not guaranteed, court costs more, and settling . . . well, that may cost a pretty penny.

Lesson here is register all TLDs for a domain you’re concerned about.

As for ordering a TM after someone registers .net, that shouldn’t matter. I believe all you need to do is prove that you had the name first (shouldn’t be hard) . . . you registered the TLD of .com and they are trying to be cyberpirates and piggyback on your name. Regardless, like I said in the last post, you still will have to pay a minimum of $1500. See if you can settle with them for somewhere around there and you’ll be guaranteed the name. . . .

    just a thought.
