MALAYSIA: DiGi telco announced partnership with Google to offer Gmail SMS. It’s the first in Malaysia. Now anyone can use Gmail to send free SMS to DiGi customers.
In order to send free Gmail SMS, you need to activate “SMS in Chat” in Gmail Lab. Then you can setup your friend’s phone number in Gmail Chat. Your chat message will be sent to your friend as an SMS. Replies to the text message will appear as a reply in Chat.
For DiGi customers, the service is free of charge and requires no subscription; chat messages sent via SMS from their mobile phones are billed at RM0.10 per SMS.
