Google Translate app for Android has been updated to support offline and vertical text translation. You can download the free app on Google Play.

There are 50 offline language packages available via the “Offline Languages” app menu. To enable offline translation between any two languages, you need to do install both offline language packages.

The offline translation feature support Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) and above. It does not support Android 2.2 (Froyo), although you can still install the app for online translations.

Another new feature is vertical text translation support for Chinese, Japanese, and Korean when taking photos with your camera.

Thoughts

The offline language translation feature is very handy when you are traveling. No more WiFi hotspot hunting!
