As soon as Android L, the upcoming release of Android mobile operating system revealed at the Google I/O 2014 on June 25, 2014, I received an email from HTC’s PR with a good news for HTC One customers.
HTC commits to bring Android L update to HTC One (M8) and HTC One (M7) within 90 days of receiving final software from Google. Other HTC One family and selected devices will receive update shortly afterwards.
“HTC is excited about the new features in the Android L release and we can’t wait to share them with our customers. We are committed to updating our flagship HTC One family as fast as possible. We will begin rolling out updates to the HTC One (M8) and HTC One (M7) in regions worldwide within 90 days of receiving final software from Google, followed shortly thereafter by other One family members and select devices.” – Jack Yang, President of HTC South Asia.
Android L is expected to be released in late–2014. For now, Android L is developer preview and Google have not yet provided the official software to manufacturers to begin work on release software.
In short, your HTC One (M8) and HTC One (M7) will receive next generation Android update by early 2015.
Android L will be the biggest release-to-date for Android platform. The new mobile operating system version features a new user interface design (material design) with flat look, a new Android runtime to improve performance and save battery life, and refreshed apps notifications.
