Joining Malaysia’s Youth Lifestyle Showcase 2008

I am going to Kuala Lumpur later (Thursday morning) then, at Friday, I will be attending Youth ’08 to check out who wins “The Malaysian Dotcom Youth Search Award “.

Frankly speaking, Youth `08 is not well-organized, even before the event started.

First of all, the YouthMalaysia website is a mess. They love flash animation. Flash animations are everywhere on the web page, typical Malaysians. The music player on the front page is meaningless. The website structure is not organized nicely. It is difficult to find the information you want.

The YouthSearch added a big chat box on the top of the page. It has become the heaven of spammers. They should use forum instead of a chat box.


Also, every YouthSearch participants received multiple SMS, calls, and emails to “remind” you to attend the event. Well, I don’t think we have memory lost problem.

Worse, the emails sent by YouthMAlaysia crew didn’t hide the receivers’ email address. In fact, all participants’ email addresses have been exposed.

Anyway, there are many programs for the 3 days event. You can check out the Youth `08 program schedule (changed last minute). Here are the programs that I am interested in:

18th Jan 2008 (Friday)

  • The Malaysian Dotcom Youth Search Award

19th Jan 2008 (Saturday)

  • Traffic Jam
  • How Do You earn Extra Income Via eBay?
  • Making Money and Adding Value via The Internet
  • Money Works @ Wealth Management
  • Introduction to Blog Design

20th Jan 2008 (Sunday)

  • Trendseting Fashion Extravaganza (cosplay!)
  • Web Marketing

    Talking about flashy websites, I know a guy who has been building big flashy corporate websites. Despite his extensive knowledge and all the necessary website building tools at his disposal, his earnings from Adsense is not enough to buy a decent meal at a mammal stall.

    yes, i feel worst to participate in this event,the script screw up my blog few time, and the crew suppose to BCC all the participant’s when sengind email out…

    and the chat box there are meaningless, most of the people there to promote their website and said hi and hello there only… suppose for discussion there.

    too bad, no tech skill some more want to do this event :(

    Wow, after reading Paul Tan comments, I think I will prepare for the tomorrow mess. I have some feel they are just too young to handle some big events like this.

    I think we just give them a chance to do better on tomorrow when I drop by.

    Wasted my time only. Shifted morning meeting to an earlier slot so I can come “kepoh” the event.

    Reached the place at around 11am (supposedly the starting time) to end up lounging around for the next half an hour or so, the to have the event started in a hap-hazard manner which ended with a total duration of only ~15 minutes.

    So yeah, 50 minutes for 15 minutes of almost nothing.
