Journey to Become Pro Blogger

Read Darren Rowse’s “When is it time to ‘Go Pro’ as a Blogger?“. Here I share my thought of a problogger wannabe (going to be one!).

After a long consideration, I decided to resign my full time job on 17 August 1980 2005 (two days before my 25th birthday) and become a full time blogger. It was not an easy decision, seriously.

Start Blogging

I have blogging for over 2 years and gaining some popularity in local blogsphere. I was looking for an easy way to update website about my daily news and share some computing tips. “Blog” is the one! And, I am addicted.

Blogging Revenue

Like many others, Google Adsense was not doing well to me. But, I knew many others are making money from it. I told myself, “If they can make money, so can I!“.

I studied about others money making website to know WHY they can. I did research, I dug Internet for Adsense tips, etc.

Since then, my revenue is increasing… I was not serious about it. I just want to see how far it can goes, how much it can give me… I set my earning target. People were surprised. But, I did it – RM1000 in a month. I know blogging can be a serious job.

Few months ago, my blogging income has over the full time job salary (it is not much, in fact). I knew I am on the right path.

My Dream Job

Work at home” is always my dream job since I was in college. I was looking for a way to support me work at home. I think I found it — blogging. I may not rely fully on blogging income but it supports me to work at home.

The Difficult Decision

It is not easy to make the decision. Quit a stable job with fixed income and turn to a new job with unknown income. How many will do that?

Before I make up my mind, I discussed with my friends and family about it, collected their ideas and suggestions.

Generally, they are not surprise about “work at home”, but they do not understand how I am going to survive. Their main concern is my income after the resignation.

My say: That is not a problem to me. My blogging income is over the full time job salary. Plus, I have the money saving enough for more than a year.

Secondly, they are quite worry that I will become anti-social, become a geek that sit in front computer all the time with no communication with human.

My say: In my full time job, I am sitting at a corner and striking keyboard, toying mouse from 9am – 6pm. I will do the same after become “Pro”, but with my own time table. I will actually get more time to interact with human.

The Noise

Though I got support from my family and friends. There are some minor voices against about the Problogging idea.

Basically, it is due to my poor English skill. Yes, that is my weakness. That is the reason I blog with English since the very first time till now!

Some people do not trust blogging can be a full time job. They hate blog with ads. They look down on blogging for money. Just like some people who hate direct sales so much. I can do nothing about that but still quite sad…

Will I success succeed?

No idea, the time will tell. No matter success or not, I will not regret. At least, I tried before. :)
