Lost PBeBank Login Password

Filed in: Life Log, Malaysia, Web — October 28th, 2005

I lost the password to my Public Bank Internet banking account (PBeBank). I am not sure how it happened but they refused to accept any of my passwords.

I tried recovering my password, but there is no such thing as password recovery at PBeBank.com.my, so no choice, I had to walk into Public Bank in person.

My brother have experience loosing the password to his Maybank2U Internet banking account password before. He told me that Maybank allows password reset via their ATM machines. I hoped that I could do the same at Public Bank’s ATMa as well, but I am disappointed by the fact that we can’t.

There is no option to reset PBeBank login passwords at Public Bank ATM machines (you can apply for a PBeBank account, but not reset passwords).

So I proceeded to the customer services counter and learned that we have to re-apply for a password!

I am surprised. Why make simple things so complicated?

Anyway, the Public Bank customer service staff was kind enough to help me fill in the application form, so I just sat and wait. It tool about half an hour to get everything done.

I received a confidential letter containing my new login information inside, that was only effective after 9pm.

By following the instructions given, I tried my new login after 10pm that day. The username and password were in two set of digits. Once logged in, the website told me to choose a new user ID and password. Also, I had to answer a memorable question (It is for password recovery. That’s ironic!) and fill in some contact info.

Everything went well. I logged in again into PBeBank with the my chosen user ID and password. Success! *phew*

My two cents

I am not sure if I like Public Bank’s way to “resetting” Internet banking account password. In terms of convenience, of course, resetting through ATM is much easier and faster. In terms of security, walking in and filling in the form would be better.

But I am still wondering how could my old password become invalid?!

P/S: I cannot login my BCB Internet Banking account as well. It has been suspended due to exceeded invalid login attempts (by me). Will tell you more about it later. *sigh*

Wah so troublesome to recover PBeBank password.

By the way, I’ve experienced the following cases:
    - exceeded login attempts at Maybank2u.com
    - forgotten the answer of security question at BCB e-channel

In both cases, I’ve successfully reset the password and retrieve my security answer via phone call. Effective and efficient! All you need, is be ready to answer a set of questions on personal details for verification purposes.

The banks (there’s a few) have this very stupid vulnerability. Anybody can try out your password and lock it out.

For example, if your login name for your online banking is “ahkau”. Someone can just use that login name and guess the password. But after 3 tries that account is locked out for security purpose. That real owner will have to go thru the pain of resetting the password.

I have one of my account locked out so many times, I just closed the account and changed the user login name to something very obscure (almost like the password) so that this doesn’t happen again.

If someone knows your username (not password), that person can easily sabotage your login by locking it out. How stupid is that??

I was told by the customer service when i applied for the PBeBank thinggie that i would need to keep the account active every 30 days or the logins would get removed from their system. Maybe that’s what is going on with your login…

i lost my PBeBank password before. all u have to do is call their customer service and tell them that u’ve forgotten ur password. they will ask u the memorable question that u entered during registration before they reset ur password. after that, i only need to wait for about 10 minutes before trying to login again..
