Maybank Banking Berhad, the Malaysia’s largest bank, revamped its website with a modern, grid, mobile device friendly design.

The new Maybank website is simple and clean. The colours are bright (yellow, black, white). It should looks familiar to Windows 8 users because the website uses a similar grid design. There’s a lot of white spaces, text is big and clear. Navigation is easy.

The navigation menu uses very large font size. It is fat-finger friendly on touchscreen tablet, but some menu items are hidden. Under the navigation menu are the grid content. The first grid is a slider with latest Maybank featured news, then Maybank stock price, News & Support, About Us, etc.

On desktop, there’s left/right arrow on the website’s edge to reveal more content. I’d prefer to use scroll left/right though. On tablet’s horizontal mode, simply swipe left/right to navigate. If you are using smartphone or tablet in vertical mode, Maybank website will aligned vertically and you scroll up/down for content, instead of left/right.

In fact, Maybank website is a modern responsive design that automatically adjust itself to suit your device’s screen. One design for many screen resolutions. It is the latest trend of website design.

On the other hand, Maybank’s online banking website — Maybank2u — is still using the 2008 web design with narrow column and small font size. It would be great to see Maybank2u also use a responsive and mobile friendly design with full online banking functionality. Currently, there’s Maybank2u mobile app for iOS, Android, Windows Phone.
