MBO Cineplex, Kluang First Modern Cinema

Filed in: Life Log — February 22nd, 2007

After years of waiting, now we have a modern cinema in Kluang town (Johor), the MBO Cineplex in newly opened Kluang Parade.

MBO Cineplex member cardI couldn’t remember when was my last time watching movie in Kluang. I think it has been at least eight years ago!

Yesterday, I went to the new cinema and watched the “Ghost Rider“. It was crowded and had a long queue. I discovered a ticket machine nearby.

Immediately, I registered myself as a MBO member for RM10 membership + RM100 credit value. Then, I bought the tickets in a minute by using the touch screen of the ticket machine! I grinned to the long queue and went away with my movie tickets. :P

Another benefit of becoming MBO member is getting RM1 discount for each movie ticket. It is convenient and save money. I recommend MBO membership card to every Kluang family (one card for each family is enough).

However, there is no way we can check the movie showtimes without going to the cinema. MBO Cineplex has no official website nor do they advertise on local newspaper.

Although the cinema rushed to open before Chinese New Year 2007, the facility is still acceptable, except they are not selling the popcorn yet. “Machine malfunction” was the reason given. I think the real reason is “machine not installed yet”.

The front gap of seat is wide enough to rest my long legs. The speakers are too loud and the sound was like bursting. The cinema staff is very friendly. But I think it has too many staff, for example there were over five staffs guarding each cinema room!

My two cents

It is great to have a cinema in the town. Before MBO Cineplex in Kluang, my friends and I need to drive to Batu Pahat or Johor Bahru to watch a movie. That’s quite crazy but we did it for the last few years!

No more driving long way to watch a movie! Now, I could have more entertainment now (and less support to pirated DVD?) ! :D

Happy Chinese New Year! I spent my first day of CNY watching movie too at Hong Kong’s Langham Place @ Mongkok. I wanted to watch The Night at the Museum and since i got it last minute, i was watching it from the 2nd row, and yes, it was realised close to the screen.

Only after purchasing the ticket after lining up for 5 minutes, i saw a ticket vending machine located at the exit. This machine accepts payment via credit card, but no one used this machine at all.

In Malaysia a ticket cost from RM6 to RM10, but in HK it cost HK$60 or so. The only way to get a cheaper ticket is to join as a member (but there are different companies), so i have got like 3 different cinema cards, but always forget to bring them out.

Make sure you don’t lose your cinema cards too as yours has got $ in it!

Finally! Now I dont mind going home. It’s bad enough there’s no wireless access anywhere in Kluang, at least now there’s signs of civilization :)

The GSC in Kuantan is really lousy, compact seats, low quality audio system, cement flooring, and small screen (like mini cinema).

I hope MBO Cineplex or TGV will explore their opportunity in Kuantan as GSC is monopoly the cinema business down there.

    No competition no improvement.

Hey Gobala, more reasons to come back from KL eh? I was gonna post the link to check the showtimes but Alvin beat me to it…..Good job…. :)

Caught my first movie there only recently which was the sneakpeak of PRIMEVAL on 3/3/07 as I was away for CNY when the cinema opened. I’ve already gotten feedback on how loud the speakers were for GHOSTRIDER and had qualms about the quality of the halls. But honestly, it was quite okay except for the mildly uncomfortable seat for someone tall like me. Also the cushioning was kinda hard but eventually I settled into the movie. Crowd was kinda rowdy/noisy as well – probably its due to the excitement of finally having a Cinema in town. And one thats better that BP as well.

But we might end up throwing it all away if the management doesn’t do something about littering. If some of you remember, walking out fo the cinema and you would be greeted with trash, cups and spilt popcorn all over the floor. They should add more BINS or maybe a BIGGER ONE with a sign “THROW YOUR TRASH HERE BEFORE YOU LEAVE!”

But gratefull we would have to be….. :P Hope to catch “300″ this weekend.

That is a bad experience on buying ticket. The machice keep “JAM”. I understand that is not the staff’s problem but it causes me cannot watch the starting of movie. I suggest that add one more machine to clear queue or service counter also can use card to buy ticket rather than waiting the only one machine.

Unforgetable. First day, a pretty girl appear in front of me when applying card in MBO Her smile is always hanging on her face. I forget her name but wish to see her again. Maybe i can have her phone number. :-)

I almost caught Undead the previous Weekend. Thankfully there was the SneakPreview of “SHOOTER” Starring Mark Wahlberg. The plot was kinda simple but the action and sounds were great.

    Can’t wait till MAY. Whoa…….

Looks like Kluang is catching up with its sons and daughters in the developed world! Do you more kids from Kluang have migrated to US, Canada and Australia than almost any other town in Johor? But I guess it is not so easy these days with the level of English coming out of places like Kluang High School – the old SES & GES students all spoke first class English and went on to universities in England, Scotland, Wales, etc. Many became doctors, lawyers, accountants. You will probably run into them in a IMAX cinema (like the one in Sydney, Australia). But it is good Kluang has a great cinema – better than the old Coronation, Metro, etc.

    Hmm….

Whats the Story about Kluang’s MBO cinema 1 being HAUNTED? I hear lotsa stupid rumours about people seeing hanging figures and dark figures around. And its always from a friend who heard from a friend etc…..

Is there any real conclusive evidence that something supernatural was going on lately?

p:s Last I heard, a rumour was going around that they called in a “Bomoh”.

I see. But did you ever sit in Cinema 1 lately? Cos I haven’t.
I went for 3 movies last week, 3 big production ones and all were either in Cinema 2,3 or 4. Me and a friend were wondering why haven’t we been given CINEMA 1 seats even for big movies like WILD HOGS???

Makes me think if there really is something going on…????
