Microsoft Renamed AntiSpyware to Windows Defender

We got the final name for the cool technology our team has been developing for Windows. The name, after long consideration by our product marketing and branding folks, is “Windows Defender”! What’s really cool about this name is that it’s more positive than “Windows AntiSpyware”.

So, what’s new?
As previously reported, Windows Defender will be build into Windows Vista. You will get a free anti-spyware program when buying Windows. Also, you will be able to update the Windows Defender signature file through Windows Updates. Windows Updates will be the one-stop station to update Windows patches, bug fixes and spyware signatures.
My two cents
Windows Defender would solve spyware problems, which is annoying to most Windows users. Microsoft build Windows Defender into Windows Vista so that you can have another reason to purchase the upgrade.
However, Microsoft’s decision to bundle up the anti-spyware with Windows will probably cause another antitrust suit from other anti-spyware companies. Microsoft should already be aware of this.
