My Experience with Bumiputra-Commerce Bank Berhad
Filed in: Life Log, Malaysia — May 16th, 2005I have just opened a new bank account at Bumiputra-Commerce Bank Berhad(BCB), Kluang branch. It was unpleasant experience. Guess what, I was not welcome to open a saving account!
I am not welcome?!
The bank chinese manager(or whatever title) used all kind of excuse to make me give up the idea to open my bank account there. When I asked him for reason, he can’t answer me.
He asked all kind of questions like, am I working, my company name, company bank account, whether I am Kluang citizen, and even asked me to get company supplemental letter!
Have you ever heard of open a PERSONAL bank account needs company supplemental letter?!
How ridiculous!
I can say that I am a kind guy, and I control my anger without breaking the glass. After I insists, he has no choice but let me open an account.
It took me 15 minutes to argue with him before he handed me the registeration form. I was the first batch to enter the bank in that morning but at the end I had to wait for 20 numbers in queue.
The BCB website tell me that open a basic saving account’s Minimum opening deposit is RM20, but they told me it is RM250. Outdated website info huh? Fine.
Incorrect Pin Number
It took me two hours to get my bank book and I received the ATM card’s pin number last week. I went to the bank in the last Saturday afternoon, enter the given initial pin number so that I can change it to my pin number, but failed. The given pin number was rejected.
What da hell!?
The recipient name is not recognized
I don’t want to take half day leave just for the pin number thing. Went to BCB website and there is a contact email address.
Wrote my email, send. Few minutes later, I get email error message.

The recipient name is not recognized?! Oh my… you don’t recognize customer care email box?!?!
… speechless…
Well, I think I am too high tech already, I should take the traditional way – walk in – to settle the pin number problem. And, I will meet the unfriendly chinese manager again. Duh…
Thought:
I don’t understand. I am not applying loan, instead I am giving my money to the bank, why not welcome me? Is this new policy of Malaysia banks? I don’t know. My past experience with Public Bank, Maybank and RHB bank are good.
By the way, the Malaysia banks seems like do not check their customer care email box. I once send an email to Maybank to ask about my online banking transaction but no reply no error, looks like it went to blackhole?
Sorry, I did want to keep quiet about this. But the failure of chaning pin number really made me fed up. Sigh…
