NetTraverse Win4Lin – Run Windows on Linux
Filed in: Linux, Microsoft, Technology — April 27th, 2004No, this time not Linux for Windows. This is Windows for Linux. With Win4Lin, you can run windows applications like Microsoft Office XP, Macromedia Dreamweaver and Adobe PhotoShop on Linux in native mode, just same as running on Windows.
However, you are required to have Microsoft Windows 9x/ME license for each user in order to use Win4Lin. In short, you need to buy Microsoft Windows 9x/ME + Win4Lin to enjoy running windows applications on Linux.
Thought:
The ability to run popular windows softwares(Dreamweaver, PhotoShop…) on Linux is great. But the cost is same if not more, because required to buy Win4Lin + Microsoft Windows 9x/ME.
Don’t think there is bright future for this software. If the company willing to buy Microsoft Windows, why it want to waste the resources to implement it on Linux? Since, at the end, the result is the same – run Windows softwares.
