Nokia Phone with Apple Safari Inside?

Nokia will create a new smart phone browser employing open-source components from Apple’s Safari web browser, the Finnish cell phone giant announced Monday.

The alliance marks the latest effort by Apple to move into the phone market after an on-again/off-again partnership with Motorola on a phone that could play music from iTunes.

The project will combine Nokia’s Series 60 platform with the WebCore and JavaScript components used in the Apple browser, which leverages KHTML and KJS technology from KDE’s Konqueror open-source project. Both companies are further committing to open-source development, with Nokia contributing its mobile know-how.
