PSP Price in Malaysia

Sony Playstation Portable (PSP) Value Pack
Some were asking about the Sony Playstation Portable(PSP) price in Malaysia. I don’t have the info in hands, so I ask for them in local newsgroup.

Here is Mark Ng‘s reply:

Yep, both US and Japanese versions are available. Japanese version costs around RM1000 or less. The US one is about USD$200 more(RM1200+).

Some shops are even carrying UMD Video. Most of them are Region 1.

Avalaible in Imbi Plaza, Sungei Wang, 1 Utama, MidValley Megamall and lots more.

My two cents

Seems like PSP is not as expensive as I thought. Check out PSP hacks for more things you can do with a PSP.

Update: PSP is more affordable nowadays, which is under RM1000.

PSP is cheaper from importer then getting it from Sony Malaysia. Couple of months ago, I was in a casual meeting with a local game distributor in charge of some PSP titles under their main brand company, the person said that Sony Malaysia will officially launch PSP somewhere in the middle of this year and with expected price of 1.6k.

Kinda overprice…besides, everybody knows that even Playstation2 are much more expensive in Sony Wings then normal shops.

A local store at Malacca sell at RM1090. Whereas both XBOX and PS2 is selling at RM799. I think the price is reasonable now.

The new disc format – UMD – key mission is to prevent imitation. But how long can it stands to be original, no one can tell :)

I heard my friend said PSP already had in Malaysia and cost only RM200++…well I think he is cheating. Anyone know the exactly price?

    Cheers

does anyone no how much a psp game costs in malaysia?

  10. chong August 9, 2005 at 4:44 pm #

ok.. i’m local (Malaysian) and let me answer all of your questions here as I’m interested to buy one too but too expensive. PSP Value Pack price is around RM1299 here and the game price is ranging from RM250 to RM300.. Who could possibly afford to buy such an expensive game in Malaysia..? No pirated UMD disc yet in Malaysia. But now you can play PSP games via memory stick.. One thing in mind that you need a big capacity of memory stick in order to play the games. 1GB of memory stick from Sandisk costs around RM600 over. Expensive? Yes!! It is..

    Hi everybody!

I have a friend going to Kuala Lumpur on Friday.

What is the price for Sony PSP Value pack in Kuala Lumpur?

Where exactly can he buy one in Kuala Lumpur?

  12. Chong August 23, 2005 at 9:46 pm #

The cheapest PSP I can get in KL is RM1100.. I believe any shopping complex in KL you could manage to find one… even smaller complex also you could get it, like Selayang Mall, Ampang Park etc.. There are two version, US and Japan.. Japan version is cheaper than US…

  13. ks August 24, 2005 at 3:44 pm #

The killer application for PSP is multi players wireless gaming. But you should also be careful when buying the UMD disc. You’ll not be able to detect the other player who are playing the same game in different country version (US/Japan)

  14. Derek Lim September 1, 2005 at 12:57 am #

I’ve just visited Hong Kong and Taiwan. HK is selling about RM1000 plus for a Japanese version without game. Taiwan, on the other hand, you can get a PSP with a game (GOLF) for around RM900 plus. Much cheaper compare around the region. Seems like all electronic goods are prised reasonably there.

  15. Leiv September 2, 2005 at 10:01 pm #

I just returned from KL, and the price of a value Pack in Sungei Wang was 700 MYR.

  16. chong September 3, 2005 at 12:34 pm #

I can’t believe that the price is dropped so tremendously.. Any idea what’s the current price of 1GB memory stick from Sandisk?

  17. ks September 3, 2005 at 8:40 pm #

MYR 700 for value pack? Which store???

  18. Leiv September 3, 2005 at 10:15 pm #

I cannot remeber the store, but in fact I asked 2 stores both said same price MYR 700. If you are in KL will be easy to find

  19. chong September 4, 2005 at 5:40 pm #

Went to Sg Wang just now.. Could you pls tell me which store that is selling PSP for RM700 for value pack? The RM700 is only includes charger and the device. The value pack around Sg Wang is about RM830 and 1gb of memory stick is RM450.. And there is one store saying that their PSP is version 1.0… means 1st batch.. hmm..

  20. chong September 6, 2005 at 12:07 am #

Bought the PSP for my sis from Sg Wang.. Cost RM1330.. It includes one Value Pack, 1GB memory stick, one UMD Demo Disc (to be used to boot certain games in ISO format).. I’m sure the RM700 one is not a value pack..

  21. fLaMe September 7, 2005 at 4:38 pm #

  24. chong September 12, 2005 at 4:28 pm #

RM1150 for a value pack?? Too expensive and you have been conned. As for imitation games, pls search it from the net and eventually you would find a way..

  27. ks September 12, 2005 at 5:59 pm #

hi chong, it wasn’t me who got it at 700. i also want to know where to get that :) i never expect a free lunch. i usually pay for my food, haha…

    Hi guys,

    As i asked before…

im going to be in singapore at christmas time, any idea of what the price the psp will be?

    Cheers

  29. chong September 13, 2005 at 6:43 pm #

Hello my friend… Christmas is still long way to go… How could anybody predict the price of PSP in another 3 months time. 3 months ago the price of PSP here was about RM1500.. Now is RM850.. I’ve read quite a lot of things about PSP and I found out that the price of RM850 in Sg Wang is consider quite reasonable comparing to Taiwan, Hong Kong and other asean countries. .. Why go to Singapore to buy? Let’s say you manage to buy one in Singapore for SGD350, here is about RM750… What if it’s faulty after playing it for less than a month? Ya, you can always go back to the shop in Singapore.. You save RM100 but you are taking a risk… Worth it?? Then do it… I got no interest in knowing the price in Singapore.. Unless it is less than SGD250… Possible?? Of course not…

  30. shelbybaby September 14, 2005 at 11:17 am #

i’ve found this site EXTREMELY useful as i was shopping for a psp as a gift for a friend and i knew nuts about these sorta boy toys. the discussion here has absolutely given me a crash course on everything to do with psp purchasing. i just bought him one in 1Utama (this store beside TGV cinema) for the price of rm1199. its the new asia version (not japan or u.s) so its better in terms of dvd viewing etc or so the fella told me. its a value pack that comes with headset, pouch, device, charger, batt and 32mb card. i probably shud have gone to sg wang instead but that place gives me the creeps. so thank you all. i think he liked it a whole lot.

  31. straffic September 14, 2005 at 4:22 pm #

Haha…Look like you guys all talk about PSP. My room mate bought the PSP and I borrow it to play for a week. Actually, we r now in UK. UK sold it at 179 pound value pack. No game included. He He bought the Ridge Racer cost him 34.99pound. Wow damn expensive to have this big toy. Well, it is nice to have it. The screen is big, bigger than Gameboy LOL, color absolutely fantastic very clear and vivid.
Disadvantages:- only 32mb memory. So, if you want to watch movie you have to get 1GB memory and convert the file name to AVI.

Anyway guys, how much it cost a UMD games in M’sia? UK look like very expensive to buy a UMD games. Err better buy PlayStation 2 much cheaper and have pirated games LOL…Of course i know PSP can bring u around to play it, but it is too expensive for me to buy. Maybe, wait until th price drop haha..

  32. johnny September 15, 2005 at 7:25 pm #

Hi, I am from Malaysia.I would like to let everyone know about the current price for PSP in Sungai Wang.

PSP JAPAN VERSION BASIC RM700 (firmware 1.51 and above)
PSP JAPAN VERSION VALUE PACK RM 900 (FIRMWARE 1.50)
PSP JAPAN VERSION VALUE PACK RM 880 (FIRMWARE 1.51 AND ABOVE)
PSP US VERSION VALUE PACK RM 1060 (FIRMWARE 1.51)
PSP ASIA VERSION VALUE PACK RM 1000 (FIRMWARE 1.51)

PSP GAMES RM 150 TO RM 200
PSP UMD MOVIE RM 120 TO RM 160

SANDISK 1 gb memory stick RM 380

*only psp with firmware 1.50 and below can play emulator and games on memory stick.

  33. chong September 17, 2005 at 9:54 am #

Just bought my PSP Japanese version 1.5 for RM880 (could get RM860 but stick RM450) and Sandisk 1GB stick for RM380 in Sg Wang.. This is my advise to all the Malaysian in KL.. Buy gadgets (including PSP / HP) only in Sg Wang or Low Yat and make comparison from every store around before buying it.. How could one staying in KL doesn’t know that 1 Utama’s gadgets are more expensive?? sigh…
Straffic!!.. You said one game 34.99 is expensive?? Here the cheapest one is RM160… If one game here is RM34.99, I’d buy original games and would never play pirated.. I don’t earn much, just about RM1500… So one game takes me about 13% of my salary… This is what we call EXPENSIVE!!!.. One set of PSP (including 1GB stick) takes me about 85% of my salary.. This is what we call EXPENSIVE!!!.. sigh…

  34. Straffic September 17, 2005 at 5:04 pm #

Wow Chong you bought PSP only RM880..some more include 1GB memory. That’s cheap in Malaysia. Here is like 179 POUND..and only 32mb memory. if u don’t convert of course here cheap lah. But, if i convert of course here EXPENSIVE lah dude. It is around RM1230++….and the game here is 34.99 pound so is around RM240++….get it….
Yoh dude u at least earn some money from ur salary, me didn’t earn anything…i got to save in order to buy it…i think i will go back to M’sia buy rather than here…
Anyway, have fun with the PSP…i’m almost finished the Ridge Racer game. Quite nice the racing game. Recommended!!

  35. Kenny September 18, 2005 at 3:11 pm #

erh…i have a question here….i plan to buy a psp next month…and i was wondering if there’s dead pixel on the psp sold in malaysia? i won’t wanna spend my money on things that is not perfect…and is there anyway to get a cheaper 1G memory stick… coz my fren told me that he got it for 180++

  36. johnny September 18, 2005 at 10:55 pm #

    Kenny,
I suggest you but a new psp because sometimes dead pixel can cause a lot of problem when playing games.
So far the cheapest 1gb sandisk memory stick pro duo I get is RM 365.

  37. Kenny September 19, 2005 at 12:38 am #

thx Johnny.i got another question to ask…can i actually fit the whole dvd video in the memory stick pro duo? how big the file will be? izzit true that i can barely fit one dvd video only in the memory stick?

  38. LcF September 19, 2005 at 12:47 am #

Kenny: since PSP support MP4, you can encode the DVD video into MP4 format (which is much smaller size) and store in memory stick.

  39. johnny September 19, 2005 at 11:40 am #

Actually, the size of mp4 format depends on the video and audio quality. If the video and audio quality is best then you can not fit it in a 1gb memory stick.

  40. chong September 19, 2005 at 9:23 pm #

Nothing is perfect… Ya.. my newly bought PSP got 3 dead pixels.. Some more the screen got few dots (not eraseable)… I can accept it if it doesn’t give me big problem…
I recommend you all to use the PSP Video Express (free) to convert videos to PSP mp4 format… Use the google search engine and eventually you would manage to find it.. This program will let you know the size of the output video b4 you start converting it.. Look around in the net especially forum and you would find out a lot of answers…

  41. johnny September 19, 2005 at 9:53 pm #

Chong,if your psp got dead pixel then go and exchange because most of the shop allow to exchange within 1 week of purchase.

  42. chong September 19, 2005 at 10:43 pm #

According to the user manual (i downloaded it from the US site as mine is in Japanese language), the dead pixels are normal… Read the following extracted from the user manual..

    Quote

“LCD screens are made with highly precise technology, but in most cases, black spots may appear, or red, blue or green may remain on the screen. This is not a malfunction.”

    Unquote

  43. Kenny September 19, 2005 at 11:39 pm #

erh…but didn’t u guys check whether got dead pixels or not during the time u purchase it ? To tell the truth i won’t accept even when it had only 1 dead pixel…some of u might hate me….but i’m one of those perfectionist…i can’t help it….sigh…

  44. chong September 20, 2005 at 11:03 am #

I’m also particular about those things but when the user manual said it’s normal, means normal!!! Unless you want to be abnormal…
Pray to god that no one or yourself would scratch your PSP otherwise you would not have a peaceful night because it’s not PERFECT anymore… Unless you buy a new one….
Bear in mind.. Nothing is perfect…

  45. psp rocks September 20, 2005 at 4:51 pm #

i’m using the australia version 2.0.i bought it for like 399 man.i didn’t know malaysia so cheap.but they say those shop change all the things inside the box 1.all i know is v 2.0 cannot store games inside the psp.but i can go online with 2.0.can anyone tell me whether i can store games inside and where do i get the program and games?

  46. chong September 20, 2005 at 11:37 pm #

Currently you can’t do anything with v 2.0… You should have known this earlier on b4 buying if you wanted to play ‘free’ games…

  47. johnny September 21, 2005 at 12:17 am #

I would to inform everyone about playing psp games on memory stick.Currently the best loader available is fastloader 0.7 which only support firmware 1.0 and 1.50.fastloader will let you play about 90% of psp games.(about 60 psp iso). However some psp iso size is more than 1 gb so better buy original psp games than buy a 2gb memory stick.
Here is the list of games which iso more than 1gb:
    MLB_USA
    Midnight_Club_3_Dub_Edition_USA
    Tiger_Woods
    MVP_Baseball_USA

To know more about the psp iso, please email me at johnnyw6113@yahoo.com

  48. Kenny September 21, 2005 at 12:42 am #

i know nothing is perfect… but don’t u think it’s a little not fair when u pay the same price as anybody else and what u get is not as good as what others got? both my frens have no dead pix on their psp and what makes me deserve to have one with dead pix ?

  49. chong September 21, 2005 at 1:17 am #

Bear another thing in mind… Nothing is fair…

  50. chong September 21, 2005 at 1:24 am #

Another alternative loader is dev hook… It doesn’t need an UMD disc present in the drive… I love dev hook more than fastloader… I’d play all my games using dev hook unless few of them using fastloader when the dev hook failed..
I remember there have ripped version for Tiger Wood and MLB_USA where you can fit it into your 1GB stick.. As for Midnight Club, I’ve downloaded the rip kit but haven’t got the time to test it out…

  51. Ron September 21, 2005 at 2:25 am #

hi guys…i’ve got a question in my mind that i have to make sure before i buy a psp , can anyone tell me wats the difference between US ver and JPN ver of psp y their price is so much diffrent? izzit true that JPN ver can only play japan games and US ver can only play US games? i’m confused

  52. manu September 21, 2005 at 3:01 am #

    hi……
hi guys i am living in australia and the current price of the psp here is about $397. i am planning to buy it on christmas could anybody tell me whats the price of the psp in malaysia and which version is better japanese or us in perfomance
    thanks

  53. hisyam September 21, 2005 at 1:33 pm #

psp in malaysia is alot more cheaper. around rm800, well not alot cheaper but still.
“which version we can watch pirated movies or play pirated games.”
please support original. don’t buy psp if u want to get warez games.

  54. ah beng September 21, 2005 at 5:45 pm #

so from the price above, the firmware 1.5 is more expensive..so most people are getting this to be able to play pirated (more like, downloaded) games via mem stick?

i saw on another forum where you can downgrade it from 2.0 to 1.5. that means you can get the newer versions. other than firmware, are there any differences between them?

also, which version is better (JAP, US, ASIA)? what are the pro/cons? im thinking of getting JAP because i like Jap products! ( i can have english as language on it?? )

  55. ah beng September 21, 2005 at 5:54 pm #

    dear mr.ron :)
from what i know, the Jap,US, Asia can play any games (it is region-free) so you can play jap, english, games.
only the dvd – movies are region locked. you can only play dvds from Jap, or US, or asia. much like real (original) dvds.
but movies aren’t so great on psp, the main thing is games. so doesn’t mean its better to get your local PSP. you can watch downloaded movies on your mem stick anyway, which is free too (anime, porn, downloaded-cinema-quality-movies. yah yah)
but im not sure on other features too. like warranty and language. someone need to tell us.

  56. johnny September 21, 2005 at 11:35 pm #

japanese version psp can change it menu language to english and other language.regarding the downgrade firmware,I found out from the internet thaat it is fake and the current project has stop due to some reason.

  57. chong September 21, 2005 at 11:48 pm #

All of the questions about PSP games, movie, converter, loaders, rip kits and other homebrews software were answered in http://www.psp-hacks.com/forum

  58. LcF September 22, 2005 at 11:43 am #

Dear all, please do not discuss about pirate game here.

  59. hisyam September 22, 2005 at 11:56 am #

thanks LcF. im getting sick of people discussing pirated psp games.

  60. ah beng September 22, 2005 at 3:39 pm #

    ok, no piracy.
i want to know which version most people are getting and why. (either new or old firmware) and also (JAP. US or ASIA).
btw, would it be cheaper to get it overseas, like Hong kong or Japan? or where is cheaper?

  61. fLaMe September 22, 2005 at 5:08 pm #

Can anyone tell me how to put videos in my PSP?

  62. PSP Australia September 22, 2005 at 5:41 pm #

im in australia and wish to purchase psp from overseas…..what websites would you recommend to purchase online??? and what version???(Jap, Asia, Us) any websites in singapore that you know of?

  63. ah beng September 22, 2005 at 8:03 pm #

i’m also in Austtralia and looking on the internet, i heard some ppl saying that their JAPAN and US psp is able to play australian dvds. that is a region 1 and 2 able to play region 4.
im thinking of getting a JAP because, then it can play region 2 and 4.
from what i hear, there isn’t much difference in all the versions apart from the region lock for movies. only hear some rumors saying JAP is better.
i think if you want to watch movies often, get one according to where you purchase the movies.

  64. VK September 23, 2005 at 11:13 am #

Region 2 – Europe, Japan, the Middle East, Egypt, South Africa, Greenland
Region 3 – Taiwan, Korea, the Philippines, Indonesia, Hong Kong
Region 4 – Mexico, South America, Central America, Australia, New Zealand, Pacific Islands, Caribbean
Region 5 – Russia (okay, former Russia), Eastern Europe, India, most of Africa, North Korea, Mongolia

    i say bullshit
it’s either he got them illegally or its a scam.

  71. Jo September 29, 2005 at 5:10 pm #

It doesn’t matter which region you get, in the end the PSP can be hacked to suit whatever you want. All it takes is a simple emulator and you can play classic Genisis games, or GameBoy games on your PSP, same thing with playing movies – like how you can crack your DVD drive to play any region.

In the end it’s all the same hardware, save for the chip suppliers.

  72. Bill September 30, 2005 at 3:10 pm #

For those who are living in Melbourne. There is a shop in the carlton are selling PSP set for AUD 340+. I’m going to go check it out tomorrow with my friend and will post details later. All you have to do is give EBgames the contact for that shop and they will beat the price that’s offered by the other shop. I say that’s pretty fair o.o-b I’ve been shopping around for months now to get my PSP *drools*

  94. squall October 15, 2005 at 4:18 pm #

    [edit: no pirate game discussion]
…And anyone sure that online games are actually SUPPORTED here in Malaysia?do we have servers?if we do how come online games(e.g ff Xi) for ps2 doesn’t seem to be availale here?

  95. ms October 16, 2005 at 9:11 am #

reply for “hey guys, i would like to know, that if u can play multiplayer games online using pirated psp games? ”

To be honest, I doubt you can..but you can always try..
you see, malaysian people tend to buy pirated games..that’s why they are not able to play online games for most of the PC games..just to name some: CS source, battlefield2, guild wars etc…Yes, I’m talking about the PC games..but i reckon it would probably be the same for PSP..pirated games = mostly no online features…so, it’s all about compromising…
do you all know that malaysia and china are the countries pirating most softwares??
If you dont believe, here’s the source..
    http://www.gamespot.com/news/2005/02/11/news_6118497.html
Buying stuff in malaysia are really risky, I can say..

  96. ms October 16, 2005 at 8:01 pm #

reply for “And anyone sure that online games are actually SUPPORTED here in Malaysia?do we have servers?if we do how come online games(e.g ff Xi) for ps2 doesn’t seem to be availale here? ”

they dont have servers mostly because there are no demands. for example, to play ff 11 online, first, you’ll need a non-pirated game, a network adapter, a 10 gb harddrive..and also you’ll need to pay every month..not many ppl in malaysia are willing to pay this much money to play it online..so if there is no demand..there will be no servers..

  97. Hafiz October 16, 2005 at 8:41 pm #

i think we cant play ff 11 online. Coz malaysian ISP not support it !

  98. Krawl October 24, 2005 at 8:55 pm #

Hi guys, im in Melbourne right now, going back to Msia by early Dec. Been dying for a PSP, but i need to know the price. Unfortunately im feeling overwhelmed by the amount of information here. First of all, if you buy PSP value pack u get all that stuff that was listed before. what if you buy PSP (not value pack)? what will you get? Just PSP and charger?

Secondly what is firmware? In Australia i heard its 2.0 and in Msia its 1.50. Whats the difference and what can each version do/cannot do? If i were to buy it back home, i would still end up buying games from Aussie so i need to know if i can still play Aussie sold UMD games.

i dont care about movies cause i dont wanna watch on a crappy small screen so if anything i would probably load movies from the PC. Thirdly can i still play wireless with friends with different version PSP and firmware?

Fourth is, i heard one of the versions(Jap/US) have better screen quality, is that true?

Either way i would prefer to buy PSP in Aussie cause its guarenteed to be original(dont completely trust sungei wang people), but if the price in Msia is too good to be true then i would buy it back home. SaintAngelius, where exactly is that shop selling for AUD340? can give me the specific address and shop name? Either way the curent price here is AUD399 which is almost RM1200 for value pack (i think they only sell value pack here)

if someone could pls take the time to answer all my questions it would really help me a lot to make my final decision. Than you guys!!!!

  99. Krawl October 25, 2005 at 12:10 pm #

Oh and one more thing, the PSP’s sold in Aussie are PAL format. So besides Australia which other countries can i buy games from? Can i still play games bought in Msia using a PAL type PSP?

  100. Th3 z3d October 25, 2005 at 2:27 pm #

hi all…after reading all of the forums…now i know that it is a headache to look for the right price for the PSP (esp in malaysia)….is it true the cheapest PSP price in malaysia is at sg wang/imbi ??….cause im thinkin of gettin one…..n im still confused to choose whether jap,us or asia ver??

  104. nicholas November 2, 2005 at 3:11 pm #

get a us version will let u enjoy more choice of umd movie…coz most of the hollywood movie…blablabla…like spider man…resident evil…the hostage..war oh the world r in region 1…us version…if u like watching Po-Rn…or anime…get a jpn version…n it will b cheaper…for asia ver…u will get warranty from sony asia…coz asia oficial psp is asia version…my recommend is get jpn v..coz it’s cheaper than others….

  105. DenSha OtaKu November 3, 2005 at 1:24 am #

thnx for the recommendation….i think i go for jap ver…im in a tight budget anyway….cant wait to get this year bonus…

  107. Tyco November 5, 2005 at 9:29 pm #

Lucky Plaza in Orchard Rd has good prices. I bought for my son yesterday and they are asking S$250 (LOWEST) for console +charger alone + 33MB card. Many shops will ask S$300 or so and cannot bargain.

The shop I bought from was on the right side (CK Tang side) along the corridor on the lower level. We kept asking for US version but the salesguy seems to know his stuff and said does not matter about version for games (true) but for movies, then there is region lock. The unit we got had firmware 1.51.

Total cost of Value Pack + hard case + Media Manager USB cable was S$490 and I calculated that I saved at least 40% on Malaysian price. S$1.00 = RM2.30.

Now back in KL realise one thing… should have got him a memory stick also. 33MB is meaningless! Can only put some songs and not even games. Hardware is definitely cheaper down there so buy as much as you can afford.

I’m not a PSP fan myself but I can appreciate that it is an impressive device!

this has no doubt been answered before but anyway. i’m living in the UK and travelling to KL next week. I would like to get a PSP at a good price but need 2 know a few things.

    Where 2 get it from?
How much should I pay? Price in the UK is still £200 (about 1300 MYR)
    What type to get?
    Should the warranty be worldwide?
What can I/can’t I buy/play on it from the UK if I buy in KL? this is the main thing – I don’t want to not be able to get anything for it when I get back home.

    Thanks very much

  171. cslee January 20, 2006 at 11:35 am #

Hi all, I think you guys should go to the Sony Style at The Curve and have a look of those PSP packages offered. To me the price quite reasonable. Range from 1299 to 1699, some with free games, some with free Zorro pack (which I think must have), some free 1g mem stick and value pack. Ceramic white is available now.

  172. cairel January 21, 2006 at 12:39 am #

cslee everyone knows that things at sony style is damn xpensive. (emmm wonder if you work with them ahaks!!! :p)

anyway i survey for a PSP at sungei wang today :-

    standard pack RM700
    value pack V 1.5 RM800/RM830/RM900
    MS Stick Pro 1GB RM300/RM320/sony style sold @ RM345
    D/load Games One for RM15/RM20
    A Disk contains 15 D/load games RM50

A shop at level 4 offer me

value pack V1.5(RM900) + 1GB MS Pro(RM320) + 3 Disc of Games “45 games” (RM120) + screen protactor for RM1350 i think its still xpensive but thats the only shop that sold a compilation of games :)

  173. cslee January 21, 2006 at 10:29 am #

Cairel, if I work with Sony, I will get cheaper than that :P.

Anyway, thanks for the info. In fact I am still searching for the best deal. I am looking for something like white PSP+1gb+free game (UMD)+software bundled+screen protector. will try to search in Sg. Wang.

I think most of the games offered there are for 1.0 and 1.5 only right?

What is the firmware version for the ceramic white PSP?

  174. eds January 21, 2006 at 11:34 am #

    hi ppl.
wats the price difference between the ceramic white and the black psp?
is the cecramic white better or just a different color?
wat does the standard pack and value pack have?
cairel. wat sort of games do they have in the disc of 15 games?
are they the good games like gta and sims, or lousy ones?

  175. Nash January 21, 2006 at 9:50 pm #

    Hi there!
I’m in Taiwan at the moment and I’m contemplating on buying a psp. Is the Taiwan version the same as the version found in South Africa?

  176. cairel January 23, 2006 at 1:17 am #

Just bought mine yesterday, wohoooo!!!! ahaks!!

Paid RM1300 using credit card, ahaks!!! i got PSP value pack (Black) + 1GB MS pro (with pre install Pro Evolution Soccer 5 & Dead to Right) + screen protector + 1 game gear pocket + 1 13 in 1 game disc (codes armes/dead to right reckoning/harry porter & goblet of fire/kingdom of paradise/lumines/ madden NFL 06/medievel resurrection/mercury/namco museum/need for speed most wanted/smart bomb/spiderman2/toca racer driver 2)

I think its the best deal i got. bought it at xbox store@ level 4 of sg want (walk towards Metrojaya of BB plaza)

Only 1.5 & below can play the download games. So they still sell 2.0 & 2.5 version.

Sametime i also bought one original UMD games for RM140.

And I think white & black is just a colour different.

  182. Rob V February 1, 2006 at 3:32 pm #

Ok, I was in Malaysia last week, went into Sugai Wang, BB Plaza, Low Yat, etc. Best place to go is Sugai Wang, here are the indicative best prices from my scan around the shops – Standard console RM800, Value Pack RM900, Value Pack plus 1GB MS Pro Duo RM1150 (all prices based on firmware 1.5 black model only). Ceramic seems to be available only in firmware 2.5/2.6, prices are pretty much the same as the black. Happy shopping!

  183. FLC February 3, 2006 at 10:44 am #

does anyone know if I got a deal , I bought a PSP ver 1.5 and a 2 giga memory stick.. for RM1200

  184. cslee February 6, 2006 at 9:07 am #

Just be careful guys, make sure what you pay is what you get, unless you don’t mind, original parts come with higher price tag. some may offer you cheaper price, but they may give you non original parts like charger, batteries… or higher games price.

I went to Sg Wang last Sat, full original Giga Pack from RM1030- 1150. Try if you can get cheaper price after the PS3 launched. :P

  185. LcF February 6, 2006 at 11:37 am #

    Holiday Plaza, Johor Bahru.
PSP value pack + 1GB MS Pro Duo = RM1100

em..may anyone tell me what’s the current price for PSP + 1G memory stick? i’m thinking to get one next week..if i don’t wish to get original games? i could download it thru the web or not? n then what’s the different of firmware 1.5 n 2.5? thanks!

  188. LcF February 8, 2006 at 1:06 am #

firmware 2.5 does NOT play download games.
it is hard to get a PSP ver1.5 nowadays…

  189. FLC February 8, 2006 at 7:36 am #

i heard a guy name fanjita already created the homebrew for firmware 2.5, it’s a matter of time when downloaded games can play on fw2.5

  190. Steve February 9, 2006 at 12:40 am #

if i buy psp fw 2.5 later can modify to play downloaded games right?

  191. FLC February 9, 2006 at 8:05 am #

they know how to hack 2.5 and 2.6 already, but loader will not come out so soon as fanjita said, he will take all his own sweet time to do it… anyway heard that the PSP2 gonna come with a microdrive…

  192. dumdeedo February 11, 2006 at 9:23 pm #

Just a question, are most PSPs sold in malaysia JAP versions with sharp screens or US versions with samsung screens? anybody had any problems with dead pixels from the units bought from sungei wang so far?

looking to buy… just curious… :) Thanks in advance! :)

  193. zero March 10, 2006 at 4:23 pm #

i just bought a 1 gig memory stick which cost rm260.the dealer said there is original and pirated memory stick.i decide to buy the original sony 1.the pirated 1 around rm200(if you know how to negotiate with the shop).

  194. ks March 10, 2006 at 6:10 pm #

hey zero, where did you get that original 1G MS?? that’s cheap!!

  195. zero March 11, 2006 at 11:12 am #

i get it from the shop that i always purchased the psp product.it should be the cheapest in sg.wang.the shop is located at the main entrance level of sungei wang,in front of the entrance of parkson(not the entrance at the mobile phone teritory). The other entrance at the back side of sg.wang plaza(where many game shops are located). The shop is in front of the men toilet.Sorry i forgot the name of tht shop but it is a corner shop.(‘_’).Beside tht,i think the price at low yat is not reliable after found out tht i can get a better price at sg.wang.They offer me rm280 for sandisk 1 gig ms.(sandisk cannot be more expensive than sony original)

  196. zero March 11, 2006 at 11:20 am #

NOTE:the price for virtua tennis:world tour has drop to RM130.

I got an offer from Holiday Plaza (JB). PSP 1.5 (black) JAP version + 1 gig MS, 60 games= 6 cds + eloader = RM1.3k … What do you guys think? Worth the 1.3k?? Or are there cheaper deals out there at the moment?

I’ll be checking prices at Sim Lim (sg) and Lucky Plaza (sg) tml.

  203. Philip March 22, 2006 at 11:51 pm #

Hey. LUCKY PLAZA (SG) IS CRAP! DUN EVER GO THERE!!! Bloody Ah Bengs wanna cheat money.

I went Sim Lim today, the cheapest pricelist i found.
    PSP 1.5 (value pack) = $430
    2GIG MS = $176
    1 Game = $60 – $72
    USB cable = $45 (WTH?)

The outlet i found outside SIm Lim Square (beside Sim Lim Tower)
    PSP 1.5 (value pack) = $439
    2 GIG MS= $170
    1 game = $60 – $72
    USB calbe = $10

PRICES AT LUCKY PLAZA ARE ATTRACTIVE! BUT!! Be REALLY careful with what you choose. Not everything is real. damn it.

I haven’t bought a PSP yet. Still thinking either i shld get it at holiday plaza (jb) or sg. Any comments? Oh ya, what are the things to check before purchasing one? I dun wish to get cheated.

I’m looking for a PSP 1.5v (frm japan) original, with a 2 gig MS. budget under RM1200.

    thnx.
    Thnx.

  204. FLC March 23, 2006 at 10:10 am #

if u convert the price , it’s more expensive… and don;t bother about the accessories given in the value pack… pretty crap… u can use any headphone with it, the pouch ..ouch…not nice.. but most important thing must have the screen protector sticker…

the PSP alone now around RM799 and 2 GB memory about RM400 but let me tell u, most memory stick out there are fake now… so i think no point buying orginal since u might got cheated… just get MS on the cheap and ask for warranty.

I bought mine at RM1200 , PSP + the 2GB memory stick… and 1 UMD game RM90 (this UMD disk is for the purpose of booting, some loader needs it but now there’s a new loader out there no need UMD disk, I think devhook GL)

forget about the CDs they are offering, you can download almost all the game they offer on the web… just make sure they install the Firmware 1.5, please check version before leaving , and ask them to install the latest fastloader, UMD emulator and devhook, other than that, u can learn more from internet, once u got your machine,… visit PSPcrazy.com.. I’m in there with nickname FLC

Another thing to note…. dead pixel or stuck pixel…. I got mine with 1 stuck pixel… according to the internet, still can accept, but more than 5 don;t accept… if the dead pixel happened to be in the middle, don;t accept , ask to change

  205. valeron March 24, 2006 at 9:11 pm #

FLC….where did you buy yours?….curious…..i think it is a good deal…..thanks in advance….heh!!!

  212. Sam May 3, 2006 at 2:07 am #

well….I’m a malaysian but now i’m currently in USA to study.

a value pack with 1GB memory disk with RM 800 is a bull shit.

i bought my psp(value pack) cost $260 plus tax and it just have 32mb memory disk.i didn’t see before a pack that has 1GB memory in there before…dont lie. 1GB memory sold separately…

when i bought this psp,it has a version of 2.0 and now is 2.6 since i have bought a new game and it will recommend to upgrade in order to play the game.

btw a 1GB memory here cost around $60-80 depends where u buy it.i know the prize with drop sooner or later but i wont buy it now.too costly.btw i think 256 or 512mb is sufficient to me.. a saved game just need about 256kb(the highest i have now)

i currently have 5 games and will buy the newest game that will be released on May 25 that is Monster Hunter Freedom. Tomb Raider release on the same date but i wont buy it since this game is too easy.(not challenging, low rated as well) also on PC and PS2

if u have any question pls email me…i hope we can compare prizes in Malaysia and USA…i will be coming back on this coming summer…miss my parents though.=)

    i m confuse…
    seems there are V1.51, V1.50, V2.5….
which one is the lastest one?
    what’s different between them?
    which one is worth buying…

    TQ..(^^)

  240. jocelyn84 December 19, 2006 at 3:24 am #

    hi angel bear ,

if u wan to play downloaded games best get original 1.5 version cause if u wan to play games at 2.7 version u can use a devhook software (which u install in ur memory stick) to play.2.7 version can sometimes can’t play other games plays in 1.5 version.sony upgrade the software version so that they can stop hackers from cracking it. now only 1.5 and 2.7 have been crack. becareful when u buy psp from dealer cos they might change ur headphone , battery and charger for an imitation. Memory stick for sony original 2 gig is rm350 . pls look at sony official website to see how the stick look like. the imitation for 2 gig has a red color front label which is a 512 mb upgrade to 2 gig… this is nnot original….

Be carefull.. ask for a original regardless of the price.. pls check ur bar code number to know where the console come from… check ur website cos different code bar show different region…

when u buy psp be prepare to spend money… all console need at least 1 ORIGINAL UMD to play downloaded game and devhook software…

    jocelyn from penang

    hi jocelyn84,

    Thanks for the info….

hope the price not much different from KL so i not need go there buy… (fingers crossed)
i’ll update the details after i get from him…
    hehehe….. ;p

  242. AngelBear December 19, 2006 at 8:29 pm #

    1.5v + 2GB MS + 2 games = rm1300
    at Megamall, Prai

  243. jocelyn84 December 19, 2006 at 10:37 pm #

    to angel bear.

pls visit http://www.psp411.com…. it another forum where they talk more of psp…

what type of brand is the memory stick… which region (country ) that the psp console come from? games is it a umd or they download for u ? for me i see it expensive… if u come to kl , especially sg wang you might be cheated well there as well cos sg wang is famous for that…unless u have an expert along with u.. as i said be careful of ur console being given either total original or partly…pls do take time and do ur research on psp before u get it …

most important is get the total machine purel orignal regardless of price… buy value pack … if possible get scan disk for a memory stick. it more expensive… at least a 2 gig or more…

  244. jin_chick December 20, 2006 at 8:54 am #

    hi…i also psp feverist..
i yet to buy 1,but confuse where to buy…
actually i study in russia, but i’m from penang… now here the price is expensive..
value pack about rm1150,basic pack rm900,but totally no problem with pirate cause they dont do here…
and i wanna reply to gerliez, pink psp is selling here at about rm 1090 basic pack..
i wanna ask 1 question: do anyone have problem with console? often brokedown or rosak then send to claim waranty?

  245. jin_chick December 20, 2006 at 9:52 am #

    and also another question…
whats the price difference in buying a value pack at gaming shop and buying at sony wing or sony official shop?
what are the pro n cons?
do ppl buy at sony shop?

  246. johno December 20, 2006 at 10:46 pm #

    Hey 241jocelyn84 (post #241)
Come on, there’s another h@ck which works with 1.5v best and even the TA-082 motherboards, and it doesnt need a umd in the drive at all. But the catch is, only 80-90% of the games work. If you do your research well, you will know what I mean. Disclaimer: I am not encouraging pir@cy, so u need to have to buy the umd to play the umd.

And the red label at the front does not mean it is a fake mem0ry stick, please go check ebay for their fake mem0ry stick guide. Here’s the link. http://reviews.ebay.ca/FAKE-Sony-Memory-Stick-Pro-Duo-MagicGate-Cards-Exposed_W0QQugidZ10000000001236041

If you dont know anything, then dont say anything.

I dropped it 3 times.. and 1 time my toddler threw it… and it’s still fine… I was expecting worse as the memory stick jumped out… when I dropped it on the road… but it is working fine… what a product… and about the price… better get it from individual shop… and no need value pack… just but the console and get a 4G memory.., I’m using non orginal memory and it’s still working fine *touchwood*

last month i went to sungei wang with my friend. he just bought the white sony psp 2.71SE with 2 gig high speed(not original) and 3 ISO games (total package=RM1130). Please remember that some seller will give you non original headphone with remote control, Pouch and handstrap. i have to check out the package coz i have a psp too that i bought from Singapore. Be careful to any seller in sungei wang coz my friend has been cheated after he went back home, he found out the strap and cloth has been removed. Fuckin shit to all of you claim to be Sabahan and speak fluent malay. i have to tour all around there to check out the original box and the package. if you wanna buy a memory stick, make sure u get the Sandisk memory stick or get it from sony dealer. i will recommend that if you wanna buy psp just check out the package from http://www.sony.com.my Please Remember don’t buy any sony psp that got firmware 2.72 – 3.2. you won’t able to play ISO game(original umd game format can be transfer to memory stick)

Is there fake PSP in the market ? How do I know I’m getting an original set ?
What’s the difference with the Japan and US version ?
What is UMD used for ?
Can non original memory stick cause any harm to the PSP ?
Does the PSP come with warranty ? I have been asking a few shops in Penang and they say it does not come with any warranty. Is this normal ?

I’m looking for the psp lite in malaysia. Anyone know the price? Haha. Hopefully not that expensive :)

  272. hanarumitryogi September 30, 2007 at 6:23 am #

    Hi guys,
I went to sungei wang yesterday.

I found out reasonable prices like:
    RM 800 – RM 880, you get:
    - Console (ver. 3.4 / 3.56, modified)
    - Adaptor
    - Battery
    - Soft Pouch
    - 4GB memory
    - Screen Protector
    - and, they can put ANY download games you like.

Oya, and for the PSP Slim and Lite,
    I found it around RM 780 – RM 1080.
But you only get console and adaptor.

Quite OKAY, right the prices?? :)

But not every stores that’s gonna sell PSP Slim and Lite really understand about console and games.
Like when I asked one store, they said they will sell it next week,
but when I asked store next to it, they said they will sell it next YEAR,
and, when I asked the store next to it, they sell it already!!
    Sounds stupid huh?
I even almost got in the fight with the shopkeeper. Wew.

Hope I can help you guys with the info.
    Take care!

hello there guys,i’m a 14 year old Malaysian boy.I’m a PSP hacker. Before any of you guys buy a psp, make sure the psp is around RM700–>RM900.If it’s 900 and above DONT buy it.Many Malaysian shop owners cheat n00bs.(No hard feelings). If they sell you a psp with firmware 2.00–>3.52 and they say “i have to downgrade your psp to 1.50 and then upgrade to custom firmware. This will cost about RM200″ DONT buy from him.PSP fat’s are very easy to upgrade/downgrade.If you don’t want to wase too much money,go to a shop and ask for OFFICIAL firmware instead of custom firmware(they charge more for custom firmware).try getting a psp with firmware 3.50 or lower. And make sure you buy a UMD-original game-of LUMINES 1.This will allow you to downgrade to 1.50 and upgrade to custom firmware in a snap of a finger. For more help come to http://www.psp-hacks.com and click the “live chat”.I’m a staff member there and i can asure you maximum service. From Playboy….Peace

Orivpeace, the region of your psp doesn’t matter. All UMD games(No matter Japan or America)work like a charm on all psp’s.Only UMD video is a problem as you need the correct region to play the UMD.It’s not a problem on custom firmware psp’s as the fake region can be switched easily in recovery mode.

how much is it .where can i get at a good price.i hope also when buy no need to upgrade or downgrade.i just want the psp itself, charger, baterry, adapter and a 4GB memory or 2GB memory so is it cheaper to get it that stuff only?

  309. Playboy November 12, 2007 at 7:51 pm #

zoobank,Try getting a fat psp with either 1.50 or custom firmware.(3.40oe-a or 3.52m33-4)3.71m33-2/3.71m33-3 is a little buggy as it contains many prx bugs. The 3.72-HX firmware sucks too.So try getting a 3.40oe-a or 3.52m33-4 psp.Summit or Plaza Masalam is my opinion. For more info, visit us on http://www.psp-hacks.com. IRC chat.

by the way how much is it at place where anyone knows can get the cheapest price for just the psp itself, charger, baterry, adapter and a 2GB memory.is the 1.50 or the 3.40oe-a or 3.52m33-4 can play games both using the cd behind the psp and the memory stick?

  311. Mycado November 13, 2007 at 2:34 pm #

wut is fw??any different between fw3.71 and sony 3.71?

  312. Playboy November 14, 2007 at 1:39 pm #

fw is the firmware of your psp. It’s the version of your psp.Sony release newer firmwares for bug/features/security updates. And your questions “3.71 and 3.72″..it’s basically the same with a few bug patches. If you’re on a slim, you need another fat psp with 1.50 or custom firmware to make a Pandora’s Battery to install either 3.60M33 or 3.71M33-3.If you’re on a fat psp,you need another fat psp with 1.50 or custom firmware to make a Pandora’s Battery to downgrade your firmware to 1.50 then upgrade to custom firmware(i recommend 3.52m33-4).Only then you can play pirated games.

  313. Mycado November 16, 2007 at 3:13 pm #

I checked out price of PSP at some shops in Summit USJ and Sunway Pyramid over weekend. The total package for PSP Small & Lite is:

PSP console, battery, adapter – RM650-700
    4GB memory stick pro duo – RM150-190
UMD original game – RM120-150 (need this as boot disk to play downloaded games on memory stick. Alternative is to pay for a some firmware upgrade which will cost RM50, but then can only play 90% of the games)
    TOTAL – RM950-1000

Best deal I got is RM950 for PSP, 4GB memory stick pro duo + 1 UMD original game, plus screen protector and casing.

Is this a reasonable price range?

Appreciate your feedback and advice. I just don’t want to get conned. Thanks.

Hi Guys! Im from Philippines. My officemate is going to malaysia this coming week, and i’m asking him a favor to buy me a PSP slim. Would like to know if how much would the psp slim cost in malaysia, and where can he buy? I would really appreciate your reply. Thank you in advance.!! =)

  322. Phoe December 3, 2007 at 10:57 pm #

Hi Mike. I would Advise your friend to get it from Sungei Wang If he is going to KL. There, you can get the modified version for about RM820 and above (Bundled with the 4GB Memory Stick) :) i just went scouting on the price 2 days ago. If you were to buy a non modified one, you can actually go to KLCC Sony Style (3rd Floor) where they sell it for RM799 (Battery, charger and Console included.)

  323. Playboy December 4, 2007 at 8:58 am #

As i said before get 3.52m33-4,3.71m33-3 is suitable for piracy(games on memory stick) but it’s a NO-NO for hacking.3.52m33-4 and 3.40oe-a is the best for hacking in my opinion.

  324. Playboy December 4, 2007 at 9:04 am #

And this reply is for eow,the best way to get an iso game to run at full speed is to BUY an original UMD and change several settings in recovery mode. This settings include:
    No UMD:disabled>>>>3.40oe-a
    No UMD:Either the Sony or M33 Driver>>>3.52m33-4

Certain games like Gta Lcs,Fifa 08,require higher speed.Only newer custom firmwares support this feature,3.40oe-a,3.52m33-4,3.71m33.
Go to recovery mode/cpu speeds and change the CPU speed in UMD/ISO=300.

Playboy advises: to go into Recovery Mode, you will have to turn OFF your psp (hold the powerswitch up for 10 seconds). Then hold the R-TRIGGER and while holding it turn your psp ON.

One more important thing,DO NOT MESS WITH RECOVERY MODE UNLESS YOU ARE 100% SURE OF WHAT YOU’RE DOING.

  325. Playboy December 4, 2007 at 9:07 am #

Mike,i would say that psp slim’s come cheap in Plaza Masalam,Shah Alam Section 9.They sell already hacked psp slims(3.71m33-3 done with the Universal Unbricker). But i’d rather get the fat psp as it’s much more suitable for hacking.Silims are good for piracy but they aren’t good for hacking. If your friend isn’t the “hacking” kinda type, then get him a slim :) ,To make him feel better, download and install PTF themes for him,it’s very simple.Just place the PTF in PSP/THEME.

  326. Leem December 4, 2007 at 6:52 pm #

hmm… i think im going to get wat i want this weekend =D
a hacked psp slims(3.71m33-3 done with the Universal Unbricker)
Thx for your info Playboy =)

erm… wat is a PTF themes? a homebrew app.?

  327. -z- December 5, 2007 at 3:21 pm #

hi people i am doubt of something….

4gb memory stick high speed pro duo

and 4gb memory stick pro duo…

    both not original..

do they have differences?? .. thanks..

  328. Playboy December 6, 2007 at 10:03 am #

PTFs are themes which SONY created. They made a PTF theme maker which allows users to make their own themes.PTF themes are simple themes and it’s very easy to install unlike the Rco/prx themes that were commonly used on previous custom firmwares. And it’s NOT a homebrew application………Let me ask again,do any of you guys sell bricked psps?,i really need some for experimenting purposes..i need it before my school starts..Next year got PMR :(

  329. Playboy December 6, 2007 at 10:08 am #

-z-…There is no difference actually. It’s just used as usual to cheat users.I adivise you to get an original memorys stick as it peforms better compared to fake sticks.Fake sticks are horrible for hacking as they can corrupt a psp while flashing. But for iso purposes…the pirated stick oklah. :D

  330. Leem December 6, 2007 at 1:02 pm #

Next year PMR huh @@” which mean u r juz 14 years old kid =X
damn… nowadays kid are so good on this kinda stuff.

  332. elle December 6, 2007 at 9:50 pm #

Im going to get psp slim @ KLCC(convention center) this weekend. PC fair starts from tomorrow (7th-9th)! hope i can get a good price. Playboy- u said version 3.71 is good for piracy..not for hacking rite? what do you mean by hacking? what can we hack? i need to know so i dun regret later. i was hoping that i can do alot more on my psp rather than just playing games. I heard that we can surf the net @ any wifi zone avail. is that true? and some says we can even chat on mirc. nice.
Is there any other info u could give me so that i wont be cheated?

N most important, sg wang console is so cheap n some says that it is a RECON set (a second hand set that have been re-newed so it looks like a brand NEW set) How can we possible reconized a recon set n a new set? u have any idea?

looking forward for your reply, playboy. thanks in advance!

waiting for an answer for my Qstion please ? time is running out for me …..my Qstion lies above !! Plz do check !!

P.S: i Dont have much knowledge about PSP yet

  334. Playboy December 6, 2007 at 11:50 pm #

elle,i’ve personally tested 3.71m33 psp.The updates when smoothly.3.71m33–>3.71m33-3 with the kernel150 patch. That firmware is perfect and stable but it isn’t good for themes.I do not mean the PTF ones,i mean the prx’s.Flashing themes on it is risky as it might result in a fully bricked psp(Cannot use).I believe shopkeepers do NOT install the kernel150 patch when selling the psp’s.Therefor, hacking is made a little harder….but it’s very easy if you try hard enough ;) .The kernel150 patch is needed in order to run homebrew application/games/emulators.Homebrew means games or applications made by other users with advanced C++ knowledge.Using this homebrew feature, you can run some really cool emulators like Gbc,gba, nes, snes etc. This means you can play all the olden games on your psp.To make it better,it runs at full speed. The reason why i mentioned that 3.71 isn’t suitable for hacking is because you have to install the addons seperately, unlike previous firmwares like (3.40oe-a,3.52m33-4)where the kernel150 patch comes in the installer it self.Hacking on 3.71m33-3 does no harm whatsoever,it’s just that you need to be patient and have to install a few additional stuff :)

  335. Playboy December 6, 2007 at 11:53 pm #

And elle,as i’ve mentioned before, the slim is no where as good as the fat psp.The fat psp is of course heavier but a hacked set can play ALL homebrew unlike the slim psp which can only play SOME homebrew.SOME=1.00 kernel homebrews.Slim also doesn’t have the infra-red feature which i find really important ;)

  336. Playboy December 7, 2007 at 12:02 am #

kool_buddy,Try getting a fat psp with either 3.52m33-4 or 3.71m33-3.Any firmwares lower than 3.40oe-a is UNACCEPTABLE seeing that plenty of games require 3.40++.I’ve checked around and realised that most of the shop sells fake memory sticks…..try getting an original stick IF you want to hack your psp.The term hack in this case refers to : Upgrading/Downgrading.A standard psp should cost around RM600–>RM800.After adding a few games, protection screen and a few other utilities,it should come around RM1000–>RM1100.DO NOT buy if it’s higher than the price that i’ve suggested. And have a good time in Malaysia and Singapore :D

  337. Playboy December 7, 2007 at 12:04 am #

elle,We can talk in IRC.I’m a staff member at #psp-hacks chatroom. We help with all psp related issues, but piracy is a NO-NO.Check http://www.psp-hacks.com for more info.

  338. Playboy December 7, 2007 at 12:16 am #

elle,i forgot to mentioned in my previous reply…hope this isn’t considered as spamming xD .The psp internet browser is highly overrated,it’s actually kinda sucky to be fair.I’d rather get a PDA for surfing the internet. You also mentioned that you want your psp to do much more than playing games,if you want to enjoy the best features, you need to install the kernel150 patch on your psp (If it’s 3.71m33)I will help you do it…if you need my help :D .There is a few homebrew applications which allows cool features. You can read PDF’s(bookr and pspreader),listen to radio(not local channels though),play olden days games(emulators),code C,C++,watch PMP videos(High quality videos which are smaller in size and higher in quality compared to psp mp4).The features are just amazing, check out http://www.psp-hacks.com …to get a clue on what i’m blabering about :)

  339. Leem December 7, 2007 at 3:14 pm #

does the PTF theme background picture move?(moving background picture)
such as the one with PS3, looks like some white smoke moving on the background image.
or it juz for the Rco/prx themes that only support by cfw?

  340. Playboy December 7, 2007 at 3:22 pm #

Leem,PTF themes are similar to Top_Menu_plugin.rco.It’s only the icons and background(still wallpaper).System_Plugin_bg.rco which are the waves(moving background)can’t be used via PTF themes. If you want to get the coolest themes(Maximum Customization) I’d go with 3.52m33-4 because it’s safer to flash the .rco themes.I’m using a the called AppleCor with lava waves, check this out..This isn’t my psp though ;) Playboy advises:You can see AppleCor theme in action –>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=teZfi-aMLjA

Playboy, for the AppleCor theme i guess it only suit with 3.52m33-4 :(
the dealer put a 3.71 m33-2 for me, sad i cant get the cool AppleCor theme.

    -nz-
    RM890 (penang)
    - psp slim console
    - cfw 3.71 m33-2
    - AC adaptor
    - battery
    - 4gb card

  351. Playboy December 13, 2007 at 3:13 am #

Ahh.No Problem elle ;) and sorry for the late replies because i was on a holiday with my family.NZ…psp’s are around RM 700(console only)….both fat and slim psp’s are the same price. The region doesn’t matter. The only difference it makes is that it supports the region UMD Videos(Useless). The Japanese region psp’s are usually ceramic white and has newer options in newer firmwares like Portable Tv…etc. These features are useless since 1) We don’t understand japanese xD.2)The connect spots are in Japan ONLY.Regions aren’t a matter in custom firmware psp’s because you can switch regions easily in recovery mode.Regions are important for theme flashing too. Most of the themes (99% rco themes) DO NOT work on Japanese regions.I advise to set the fake region to America or just Disable it.Recovery Mode–>Configuration–>Fake Region=Disable/America.

  352. Playboy December 13, 2007 at 3:18 am #

FANTASYX2,Get either a psp slim or psp fat( Your Choice). The shop dealer would usually install custom firmware on it.At the moment, the one’s that are being installed are 3.71m33-2.This version allows iso games as well as all the newer UMD( original games ).With the kernel150 addon installed, you can enjoy homebrew games/applications.Homebrews are made by other psp users that understand the C,C++ language.

  353. Playboy December 13, 2007 at 3:27 am #

KiDuLt,You have to upgrade your psp to newer custom firmwares in order to enjoy newer games UMD/iso.Also,3.10oe-a is totally outdated and doesn’t allow rco customization. You can either upgrade to 3.52m33-4 or 3.71m33.Both are excellent firmwares but on 3.71m33,you need to do a lil’ extra work…updating..patching.But it’s very simple and safe.If you upgrade to any of the firmware’s i mentioned, you might be able to get AT LEAST RM700.This is because you include games..i believe plenty ;) and it’s a Value Pack psp seeing that you have all the stuff included in the pack.Value packs are very hard to find..resulting in dealers to sell fake straps,pouches,cases….etc.Doesn’t matter though….as long as your psp is safe ;)

  354. Playboy December 13, 2007 at 3:35 am #

Leem,i see that you’ve got a good deal :D Congratz.hehe yea,the psp slim doesn’t feel as solid as the fat one.And don’t worry, you can enjoy PTF themes ;) .There are newer updates for 3.71m33.The latest one is 3.71m33-4 which is morer to psx game loading functions.Leem, you can’t install the kernel150 patch because the psp slim doesn’t support 150 kernel, but you CAN play 1.00 kernel homebrew games :D .Here is an example of a game i like:D —> http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/1335 .You can find the update -4 here. You do not need to install the updates one by one, just upgrade to -4 straight. Here is the update link —> http://www.psp-hacks.com/2007/12/12/371-m33-4-released-w-multi-disc-supported-popsloader/ .Just place the UPDATE folder in PSP/GAME and run it on your psp…it will fix a few bugs ;) Feel free to ask if you have any doubts :)

  355. elle December 13, 2007 at 4:36 pm #

hi again, playboy. i juz got myself a ceramic white psp slim v3.71 m33 for RM1k!

    this is what i got:
    -console ceramic white v3.72m33
    -charger
    -batt.
    -4gb
    -few free games.
-software (to be able play downloaded games etc. -says the seller)

It’s japanese version. Havent got myself any theme yet coz ive surf the net seems like there are 2 version of themes, one for official firmware and others is not. Im not sure if it fits. how worst can it get if i wrongly install unsuitable themes for my psp? btw, i got bricked psp warranty for 2weeks. :P

  356. Playboy December 13, 2007 at 5:19 pm #

elle nice :) Good Deal too.Ok,the themes are very easy to install.I mean the PTF themes. These themes are CREATED by Sony. They released a software allwoing users to make their own themes and use them on 3.70++ firmwares.(Official and Custom). These themes are 100% safe as they do NOT touch flash and chances of bricking is basically 0%.The other one is .rco/prx themes. This require users to flash the theme onto their firmware flash0.This is very risky for normal users especially on 3.71m33.I do NOT recommend this method.(Only for custom firmware psp’s only).elle, check out this site, they have plenty of cool PTF themes. You need to register before downloading them. –> http://www.consolespot.net/index.php?network=xmb .As you are on custom firmware(slim)you can enjoy 1.00 homebrew but you CAN’T enjoy 1.50 kernel homebrew. This is for Leem as well,1.50 kernel homebrew uses the kXploit method therefor,it comes like this “Homebrew and Homebrew%”.While the 1.00 method is just “Homebrew”with the eboot.pbp in it.This is a very cool homebrew that you should try.It works like a charm on a psp slim. http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/1335 .If you have any questions, feel free to ask,you too Leem….To both of you “Enjoy your new psp’s” :D

  357. Playboy December 13, 2007 at 5:23 pm #

Also there are newer updates for 3.71m33,the latest being 3.71m33-4. http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/1370 .This update includes update -2 and -3,so you do NOT need to install one by one.Just run this update. It’s mainly for bug fixes and patches…including pops(ps1 emulation).

  358. Leem December 13, 2007 at 11:22 pm #

hey elle, i wander did you bought your psp? with 2 week bricked warranty LOL! that a nice one :D congret~ here the source of my psp game http://www.pspiso.com/showthread.php?t=83780 register and enjoy :D

Playboy, i wanna ask some about “ps1 emulation” izzit save for 3.71m33?
    any chance for bricking?
im so scare for bricking off my psp >.

  359. Leem December 13, 2007 at 11:24 pm #

    ops… miss out a word…
hey elle, i wander “where” did you bought your psp?

  360. Playboy December 14, 2007 at 12:45 pm #

Leem, emulations are perfectly safe, download the ps1 eboots from the site you linked elle (psp iso) and place it in PSP/GAME.

  361. Playboy December 14, 2007 at 1:26 pm #

Leem,to make you feel better,i’ll exlain a bit about bricking a psp.Bricks would occur when a psp’s flash 0 is messed up.There are two types of flashes on a psp firmware.(Main ones).Flash 0 and Flash 1.Flash 0 is VERY important…..NEVER mess with it unless you have a valid reason and you are 100% sure on what you’re doing, while flash 1 is just the psp settings. If you format flash 1,it will just reset the psp settings….nothing to worry about.Flash 0 will NOT get messed when you play games, emulators, homebrew games,photo….etc.It WILL get messed if you delete files in flash 0.Some homebrew applications like “PSP Filer,Slash N’ Flash,Firmware upgraders, downgraders” all touches flash.Therefor, there is always a chance of a brick when you mess with those.Leem,do not worry as you won’t brick if you follow what i say :)

  362. Playboy December 14, 2007 at 1:28 pm #

Guys…..please tell me if any of you guys want to sell bricked psp’s for a reasonable price.I really need some for experimenting purposes…..cuti sekolah is coming to the end already… Thanks :)

hi, im new here.may i know what’s the difference between modified and un modify psp??

  365. Playboy December 17, 2007 at 7:59 pm #

donkey,i believe you mean hacked psp. Most psp’s sold in Malaysia are hacked before hand,so you do not need to worry about the hacking process. The difference are that the original firmware psp doesn’t have the abililty to run homebrew(made by other psp users who are good at C++),pirated games, install themes(flash)and plenty more.At the moment the good firmwares around are 3.40oe-a(quite outdated though),3.52m33-4 and 3.71m33-4.Feel free to ask if you have any more doubts.

  366. Playboy December 19, 2007 at 4:15 am #

Hello there again.I’ve got some news for the psp-homebrew loyals.I’m gonna upload my HTML coding soon.It contains direct download links for a few good homebrew games,Appilcations,Themes as well as updates.I’ll provide the download link once i’m happy with the end result.I’m still coding a little bit more…very simple page though ;)

Playgirl….k.The psp slim is a litte harder to hack seeing that you need either a psp with 1.50 or custom firmware to install custom firmware on a psp slim with an official firmware on it.You do not need to worry though seeing that psp’s in Malaysia usually are sold with custom firmware on it.Hacking wise,i’d go with the fat psp.

1st) Fat psp’s can be downgraded and have plenty of stable custom firmwares.
2nd) Fat psp’s own the infra-red option…..very important in my point of view.
3d) MOST IMPORTANT….Fat psp’s have the 1.50 kernel homebrew option which the slim doesn’t have.

The 150kerrnel homebrew basically allows your system to run about ANY type of homebrew game no matter if it was made for firmware 1.00 or firmware 1.50.Slim’s in the other case, can only run 1.00 kernel homebrew.(There are….but not as much as 1.50 homebrew).Otherwise, the slim is ok…..it looks sexy, but looks very weak.Looks like a strong wind may snap the psp in two xD.
Piracy wise, both slims and fat’s are ok.

  371. Playboy December 20, 2007 at 10:03 pm #

aril_roku,i’d say no.The deal you got is decent….but did the owner explain to you the reason he’s selling his psp? If he’s got a valid reason,go ahead and buy it…but if he comes up with lame excuses, that means something is fishy.(usually).aril_roku,if you decide to buy his psp, make sure you make him stay with you for a couple of hours while you test for ANY sort of damage.aril_roku,Just for your information….and brand new fat psp set costs about RM700–RM800 with the latest custom firmware installed on it.3.40oe-a is a excellent firmware but there are plenty of games that require a higher firmware to play.Aril_roku,your money, you decide :) Feel free to ask if you have any doubts in mind.

@elle,leem,playboy & others, guys I’ve bought PSP Slim 3 days back in singapore at 397 sing $. It includes PSP Slim black & san disk 4 GB & screen protector. The shop person installed the 3.71 m33-2 firmware.
Thanks for all your comments, it made me get an idea on the firmware and PSP kinda info.At present I am in search for the ISO games to download and play, still I didnt play any game yet :( though i dlded medal of honors 2 its not working.

As we all are PSP fans , how abt sharing our yahoo or other IM IDs ?

Njoy guys and thanks again ……..take care !! :)

  373. Playboy December 21, 2007 at 5:10 pm #

kool_buddy,we aren’t allowed to share our e-mails,MSN etc for safety reasons.kool_buddy,make sure the game you downloaded in an iso/cso file.Place it in ms0:/ISO folder.Do you have a UMD game? Because as far as i know, the slim iso loader isn’t excellent. If you have one, insert it into your psp….boot to recovery mode and go to Configuration. There you will see plenty of options.Go to the UMD mode option. When you click X,it will switch.IE:Sony NP9660_NO UMD-,M33Driver-NO UMD-,Oe isofs legacy -NO UMD-,Normal-UMD required.Choose the option which says -Normal-UMD required.Once done, hopefully the game would load.If you do not have one,try using the SonyNP9660 loader or the M33 Driver.
This is how you should boot into recovery mode.

Playboy advises:To set your kernel to 1.50,hold the off switch for 6-9 sec.then hold R trigger while switching it on.Now you will be in recovery mode.

    Once done,follow what i typed above…. Enjoy your new psp kool_buddy ;)

thx playboy, i just got a PSP-2000 cfm 3.71, from jb, with 4 GB sony high speed memory stick, headset, screen protector,2 yrs warranty, price = RM880, do u think it is good price?

after a few day i bought, i found problem when playing newly added game (b4 tat still ok) , the screen stated “the game cannot be started (800200148)”, how can i fix tat?

another thing is .. is PSP not good in playing video file? my PSP easily hang and have to take out battery to shut off power when i try to fast forward the video.

  376. playgirl December 24, 2007 at 1:14 am #

    kool_buddy,
i actually staying n studying in singapore now. ur modified PSP still got warranty? I have asked some game shop, they normally give no or less than half yr warranty and they all selling china PSP (PSP 2006 if i not wrong).

  377. Playboy December 24, 2007 at 10:53 am #

playgirl…awesome deal, but most probably your Memory Stick Pro Duo is a fake one,but it doesn’t really matter. That error that you got is a prx error.Do you have a UMD game? (original) If you have one,do the following.

Playboy advises:To go into Recovery Mode, you will have to turn OFF your psp (hold the powerswitch up for 10 seconds). Then hold the R-TRIGGER and while holding it turn your psp ON.

If you did it right, you will be in a black screen with red writings,If you encounter a black screeen, press the brightness button. Now,you’ll see a few options.Go to “Configuration” and go to the UMD mode option.Press “X” and let it keep changing until it says “Normal-UMD required”.

If you do NOT have a UMD,go to the same menu again,go to Configuration, and press X at the UMD mode option until it says M33 Driver OR SONYNP9660.Either of this should work.

Just for the sake of asking,is it a homebrew game,or an iso/cso game that you’re trying to run?

Because if it’s a 1.50 kernel homebrew, you will MOST probably encounter the prx error. And about you’re Video problem,i’m not quite sure.A system reflash would do the job,but to do so,you need to make a Pandora’s Battery which is hard to make seeing that you own a slim psp.Try this anyways…go to “System Settings”/Restore Default Settings. This will reset all the settings back to normal. If it still doesn’t work, bring it back to the shop.. ;)

  378. playgirl December 25, 2007 at 7:09 pm #

hey playboy—i tried ur solution but still cant work (i have no UMD). i brought to the game shop the check, the memory stick was spoilt then they replace a new one and get it fullly downloaded new game for me again (newly bought they offered free download game in the memory stick)

I not sure whether it is fake, but since they really gave a new one, and its speed obviously than normal one (seeing from others customer), i am quite satisfied their service. hehe

erm.. what is prx error, homebrew game actually? so far i only play iso/cso game. i found from website it exist jso file oso, it is described as a file further compressed, taking less space than cso.
but i still havent tried it.

  379. playgirl December 25, 2007 at 7:16 pm #

playboy– forget to thanks for ur time. thx!!

  380. Playboy December 26, 2007 at 10:46 am #

That’s lies.Memory Sticks don’t cause the problem.Did the shop guy give you the exact same game in the same format?playgirl,to get maximum iso compatibility, get a UMD.One only.Just for your information, jsc, cso DaX,are all iso compression formats.Iso’s are still better because they are the ORIGINAL dump of the UMD.

  381. playgirl December 26, 2007 at 12:04 pm #

the shop guy 1stly checked the setting by press ‘select’ in the main menu and did something in the recovery mode , then del and download the same game again. when he found the same problem exist, he then gave me a new one and agred to download any game until the memory stick full.

how a UMD get maximum iso compatibility? did u mean tat it will
help to minimise the possibility tat the similar problems occur?

  382. Playboy December 26, 2007 at 6:32 pm #

playgirl, yes.I’m sure a UMD would work. One UMD is enough.Set the menu in recovery mode (UMD option) to “Normal-UMD required”.I’m afraid to say,but usually shop dealers in Malaysia,SUCK at psp’s….big time.(Not all, there are some good ones :) ).They really do cheat.Common problems=reflashing, iso problems.I met a guy who upgrades from 1.50 –> 3.40oe-a for RM 200.Isn’t that stupid? I suggest you to get a UMD and try it.If it doesn’t work, then it might be the iso problem.Just curious, where did you buy your psp from? Shop: section: Plaza :

    Thanks…..and shop dealers,don’t be mad at me…hehehhehe

i met another problem.. need ur help again.
i just download some application software eg dictionary. i placed in file PSP\GAME. and open in ‘Game’ menu. they all showed ‘the game could not be started(8002014c)’

do u know hot to solve? thx 1st ya

  385. Playboy December 29, 2007 at 7:20 pm #

playgirl, first, you need to know wether the application you downloaded is 1.50 kernel applcation or 1.0 kernel application. The slim doesn’t have the ability to run 1.50kernel homebrew..eloader doesn’t help much.I’ll tell you a way to differenciate between a 1.50kernel homebrew and a 1.00kernel homebrew.

Take dictionary as your homebrew name.
    1.50kernel homebrew==”Dictionary/dictionary and dictionary%/eboot.pbp etc
    1.00kernel homebrew==”Dictionary/eboot.pbp.

In the 1.50 kernel homebrew case, you’ll need to place the dictionary and dictionary% in PSP/GAME (DOESN’T WORK WITH SLIMS).

In the 1.00kernel homebrew case, you’ll need to place the folder which the eboot.pbp file is in.Place it in PSP/GAME as well.Works on slims.

  386. Playboy December 29, 2007 at 7:24 pm #

This is a homebrew that works on psp slim with custom firmware.

    Birdman’s Shooter= http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/1335

    Place the WHOLE birdman’s shooter 2 in PSP/GAME and it’ll work :D

@playgirl…… I got singapore warranty for my PSP (but i cant say if it still applies even after SHE(shop girl) loaded cfw) ….whatever it doesnt matter much for me as I stay in India and can’t claim the warranty lolz.

I updated to cfw 3.71 m33-4….and abt ur PSP price play girl I guess u got the best price but not the best PSP :( kaula lampur was our first destination in our tour but i had to wait to reach singapore to buy PSP as i had a feeling that malaysia ppl may cheat (which i learnt from this blog itself lol).

whatever, PSP which i bought is arnd $30 USD cheaper than in India….i am happy even though i didnt get the best price bcuz i bought at the last 5 minutes of our trip and didnt had enough time in finding the BEST PRICE shop ;))

@playboy and others……can we get ur yahoo or msn IDs from the psp-hacks website ? I guess u r all the time in that site right ?

btw I dont have a single UMD ….and I am very much happy with the games i have right now and still downloading.

i only paid 235 euro which equivalents to RM1100 for a complete set of psp
    (new slim&lite psp+ 2gb memory stick + 2 free games (fifa 08 & midnite club racer)

  390. syahmi January 6, 2008 at 8:25 pm #

hey guys i think that psp nowadays price is RM600 you know. this price is only at sungei wang. if you go to the ampang park u could get somewhere RM699+. i plan to buy but my father disagree……… i fell very sad :(

  391. imlovinit20 January 8, 2008 at 11:05 pm #

mr_elpis, i get psp slim custom 3.71mm33-2 firmware for RM 880 in imbi plaza. Includes 4gb memory stick pro duo, but there’s no UMD games. The shopkeeper only provides downloaded games and put all of them in the memory stick. I guess i have 10 games in my memory stick right now. Kinda cool. I’m downloading the latest ISOs for the games and gona put them in my psp slim soon.

Syahmi: ya, i asked in sungei wang too. RM 600 for psp phat console only. If you includes the memory stick, it will cost you RM 760. There’s another shop in sungei wang that offer RM 580 for psp phat too. You might want to get this psp and get another memory stick for RM 140. (RM 720 in total, you save RM 40).

It’s all depend on your luck whether you can find these shops or not in sungei wang. I dont really mind about the price. But i did a pretty good survey around lowyat, sungei wang and imbi plaza. Dont go to lowyat, the price are fixed and you cant really ask for discount. Same goes to Sungei wang, the tauke really not that friendly at all. It seems like you wont get a great service after you bought the psp from them. I got mine from Imbi Plaza. The guy gave me a great lecture on the psp slim and im proud of having one in my hands now.

Go to psp-hacks.com and join the channel to discuss/know more about psp. Or maybe you might wanna search in google for the doubts that you all have in mind. I did all the research myself and now im proud that i can play a lot of different types of games in my hacked psp.

I hope those who are looking forward for psps either phat or slim, please do a research a week before you go and buy them. You might wanna compare them both first. For me phat is good coz it allows homebrew games and easier to hack. But the future has come, for me i would choose psp slim coz it’s definitely slimmer, lighter and i dont really rely on homebrew games. I got originial games’ ISO to download so can you all.

Be smart, survey first before you buy one psp. ask around!! :P

    have a nice day everyone~

    pspfreako,

  392. Playboy January 9, 2008 at 3:05 pm #

imlovinit, agreed, you guys should research more on psp’s(not from the shop dealer, from the internet) before buying it.I recently went to a mall and there was a shopkeeper who didn’t even know what was custom firmware…you can ask the shopkeepers on games, they’ve got a good idea on it.imlovinit,i bought mine in Sungei Wang hehe and yes some were rude, especially when you leave their shop empty handed haha..For psp’s…i feel Summit and Digital Mall provide good deals.

how much does the star wars and the daxter package cost…???

  395. Playboy January 10, 2008 at 7:37 pm #

eddmeddy,a psp fat and slim will cost around RM800–>RM1000 including extra acessories.(Charger,battery,4gb memory stick, games, cover, protection screen).Your psp doesn’t matter is fat or slim should come with a 3.71m33 custom firmware. The update behind it doesn’t matter really,as far as i know, dealers install 3.71m33-2 at the moment using the Ultimate Pandora’s Battery.I’d rather get a psp fat as it has the 150 kernel homebrew function.By having this you can get 100% homebrew copatibility. The psp slim has the ability to play homebrew as well, but only about 40% of it.NO 150 kernel homebrew.
For your information, homebrews are games/emulators/flashes/applications made by other psp users who have mastered the C,C++ programming language.

eddymeddy,if you really want the slim, get it.It’s your choice :) I like the Deep Red psp slim…the new colour.

  396. eddemeddy January 11, 2008 at 12:29 am #

    hey,
40% meaning that i can’t play downloaded games is it?
if it is so,that might be a problem…
where do u get ur games?
RM800 is quite expensive for a portable game, don’t ya think?
any possibilities that i can buy them at below RM700?

  405. Playboy January 16, 2008 at 7:27 pm #

lilyallen, sure.I’m assuming you do have a hacked psp in hand.If you have one, proceed and download this. http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/951 .This is gpSP0.9,it’s the BEST Gba emulator out there. It’s an .rar file, you’ll need WinRAR or any other extracting tools(UnrarX for Mac OS X).Once extracted, you should see three .zip files.gpsp09.zip,gpsp09_150.zip and gpsp09_src.tar.bz2.Extract the first one (gpsp09.zip).A folder called gpsp09 will appear.Copy the whole folder and paste it in PSP/GAME.Ignore the other zip files, the gpsp09_150.zip is for fat psp’s while the other one is the source code of the project.

Feel free to ask if you encounter any problems,
    Playboy.

  406. Playboy January 16, 2008 at 7:32 pm #

QQ,The difference between the SONY original firmware and the custom firmware is that the custom firmware has more features compared to official firmware. It’s the exact same firmware with the ability to play homebrew(Games, emulators, applictions)made by other psp’s users who are good at C and C++(Programming Language).Firmware is the ‘scientific’ psp word for version. If you buy a psp in Malaysia, you will most probably get a psp with custom firmware.3.71m33-2 or maybe even 3.80M33.UMD is the game. It’s the Universal Media Disk. This game costs around RM150.This is the original game. You can download games from several use-net’s but i’m NOT going to provide the links here. You’ll have to find it yourself ;) Keyword is —iso—.

  412. Playboy January 19, 2008 at 2:15 pm #

kinwawa don’t worry.Updates are VERY simple and VERY safe.Same goes to kernel patches. These updates take a few seconds only. The chances of a brick is still there as it touches flash but it’s VERY slim.Download the updates from trusted sites (www.psp-hacks.com etc) and place the UPDATE folder in PSP/GAME.

  413. Leem January 19, 2008 at 8:44 pm #

    hi playboy, u still here huh~ u r so helpful :)
    i hav a question here, it’s about the latest 3.80 m33 1.50 Kernel Mod.
    izzit juz for FAT psp?

another thing is the “Custom Firmware 3.80 M33-4 UPDATE” shoudn’t hav a problem updating them into a slim psp rite?

i found this guide in pspiso

Custom Firmware 3.80 M33 has been released

    - Installation requires a PSP with 3.52 M33-3 or higher [fat PSP], or 3.60 m33 or higher [Slim PSP]
    - Battery 78% loaded, – Kernel acces on 3.XX
    - Copy the UPDATE folder into /PSP/GAME/
    - Run it, the update will be done by Sony updater. At the end when you are asked to reboot the
PSP pressing X or O, do it.Do not skip this step shutting down the psp by yourself, or you’ll end with a brick

  414. Playboy January 20, 2008 at 12:08 am #

Leem, yes the kernel 150 patch is for fat psp’s only. The code will reject slim psp’s.The 3.80M33-4 update works like a charm on a psp slim.I don’t recommend 3.80m33 yet as it isn’t very stable.Once Dark_AleX is out with newer updates, then you can consider it.And thanks for the compliment hehe

So, please do sms me at 016 xxxx, if anyone has a “bricked” psp for sale. (“bricked” means the psp can power on but nothing appears on the screen.) thanks!

I just get one today at Digital Mall, PJ
although the price is slightly higher 820, but this guy service is good. is a kiosk at the first floor, the kiosk is at the right hand side, the last kiosk on your back(when u going up the escalator). I think the kiosk name is Brother Game. IF i not mistaken the whole entire 1st floor, that’s the only kiosk selling PSP.
my package is=> the basic package, include with screen protector, psp case protector ( only front), 2 in 1 cable for u to transfer data and charge psp, 4G ultra high speed memory card, give u free game until the memory is at max and a hard case to keep the psp. Well this guy gave me a brief lecture on how to use the PSP too. XD

    playboy,
Can a psp(slim) play MSN messanger?
Another thing is about the flashplayer we need for youtube streaming video, izzit possible for psp(slim)?
Beside that, window media player for online songs, izzit possible for psp(slim) too?

Your reply will be highly appreciated =)

  425. Playboy February 13, 2008 at 7:35 pm #

Leem, there is a homebrew application which is known as “AFKIM”.It’s basically coded to seem like messenger on a psp.I only tested it once, but unfortunately,i don’t find it useful.

Leem, all psp’s(psp slim and psp fat) can’t play flash videos by default. Thanks to homebrew, this is made possible. There is a good player out there known as “PSPTUBE” which has the ability to play high quality PMP videos (way better than psp mp4),stream YouTube videos and so on.

Leem,i believe you’re talking about web portals.Web portals are just plain HTML and JavaScript coded pages which are ported to a psp.It is a complete waste of time to use it as you ALREADY have access to homebrew.Usually, users who own “official firmware” psp’s will install portals. And yes,it is possible for both slim and fat psp’s.If you do have any HTML or JavaScript experience (or any other web coding),you surely will be able to create your own portals.I’ve made my own before, but it isn’t fun as homebrew….trust me.Hope this helps ya’.

  426. Playboy February 13, 2008 at 7:47 pm #

dirra, yes you are right.3.90m33 is the latest custom firmware (Dark_AleX) for both slim and fat psp’s.The upgrading method is VERY simple but it does have a chance of a brick.Brick in other words means your psp is just as useful as a brick. Can’t boot it on or nothing. If you really do want 3.90M33 (It’s a good firmware),you can ALWAYS try making a Pandora’s Battery on your 3.71m33-4 slim psp.But of course, there is a catch. You will need a fat psp battery(Normal Sony battery) to make the Pandora’s Battery. It can be made on a slim psp as well, but it isn’t recommended. Before you proceed (if you want to upgrade),you should get an extra memory stick (256 would be good(NOT FAKE!!)) and an extra battery (fat battery).Once you get hold of both, you can make a Pandora’s Battery which can be used to unbrick your psp back to 3.71m33-2 if your psp bricks while upgrading from 3.71m33-4–>3.90m33.This process may seem complicated, but once you understand the method, you will feel it’s a piece of cake.

Let me explain a bit about it.A psp boots through flash 0 (internal memory). If any files in your psp is curropted/lost,your psp wouldn’t boot successfully. This is why we don’t advise you to flash anything in flash 0 (recovery mode).

Example–>You are upgrading from 3.71m33-4 to 3.90m33.Suddenly,you switch off your psp,or your battery dies or any crap happens. When this happens, the installer will stop flashing the 3.90m33 files.Therfor, some 3.71m33-4 files would be present as well as a little bit of 3.90m33 files. This in other words is a curropted flash 0 and it will cause the psp to brick.

The Pandora’s Battery boots to the service mode instead of the psp flash 0 (The same way SONY recover bricked psps).Once the user manage to boot into service mode,he/she can then install 1.50 or anything they want. This is frequently used for downgradng/upgrading/reflashing/installing custom firmware and unbricking.

I hope i explained well enough, and i hope you do understand.Feel free to ask if you have got any other questions, don’t be shy….hehehehe.

  430. Leem February 18, 2008 at 5:59 pm #

thx for the reply playboy :)
here is another Question for u :P
it is a Interactive UMD VIDEO i download juz now from pspiso.

    it said that…
    1. Put iso to ISO/VIDEO folder and press SELECT when you are in XMB.
    2. Now choose the UMD ISO MOUNT and select the idoljanken.iso
    3. Now you can play it in UMD VIDEO in XMB

my question is wat is XMB?
i wanna make sure so i could press the SELECT button on the rite place =X

  431. Playboy February 18, 2008 at 9:42 pm #

Leem,XMB is the cross-media-bar.This is where ALL the menus are situated.Music,Photo,Games etc…This is where you do all the stuff.Note:If the select button || home button (3.52m33-4),doesn’t work, you’ll need to enable VSH menu in recovery mode/configuration.And also,UMD Video iso’s are bad lol..

  432. Mutu February 18, 2008 at 11:15 pm #

I got a DS Lite Package with r4 cartridge, 1GB micro SD, Games loaded, airform pouch, battery, charger, screen protector for 690RM

    Is it a good buy???

  433. Mutu February 18, 2008 at 11:19 pm #

I can recommend a sho who sells PSP at 700RM with 4GB SD card…3.7 firmware

  434. Leem February 19, 2008 at 4:50 pm #

oh man… i face a big problem here playboy T_T

as i mention on my last post about the UMD Video iso i do wat the instruction ask for, but after i choose the UMD ISO MOUNT from “NONE” to the “idoljanken.iso”(which is the name of the video iso file) my psp reboot it self @@

after reboot my psp become very very lagy >.< have any idea how to solve this problem? or mayb there is a way for me to reset my psp or format it so that i can have my smooth psp back T_T

Status: my leg are shaking :S

  435. Playboy February 19, 2008 at 7:51 pm #

Leem, nah.Nothing to worry.Try setting the UMD ISO MOUNT to NONE again. If this move fails,(still lags),you can set factory settings which will reformat flash 1.This means all the settings (including recovery menu) settings will be reverted back to normal. You of course can change it back according to your wish.Leem, also,if you DO NEED a video playing homebrew, search for PSPTUBE for slim. It’s in the http://www.psp-hacks.com site.It can play all type of videos incluing PMP.Excellent quality videos.I don’t really like using video iso’s.Waste of time in my opinion.

If you still wish to try out that video iso,you have to place the .iso file in ms0:/ISO/VIDEO.If the “VIDEO” folder isn’t present, create on in CAPITAL LETTERS.Once done,do as you did earlier “Set UMD ISO MOUNT TO –”blah blah.iso””.NOTE::You’ll NEED a UMD in order to do this.ANY UMD’s will do.(including game UMD’s).

I believe you do not have a UMD.It may be the cause of your problem.
    Good Luck mate!

  436. Playboy February 19, 2008 at 7:54 pm #

    Mutu,we aren’t good at Nintendo DS’s…Sorry.

  437. Playboy February 19, 2008 at 8:08 pm #

simony2K.Mate,I’m REALLY sorry for this late reply.I didn’t realise you asked for help lol.Anyways, there are fake psp’s around, but it is horrible. You’ll know it isn’t a psp the second you look at it.When you buy your psp,(i recommend psp fat (hard to get now)),you should get a memory stick(99% you’ll get a 4gb fake Sony stick),battery, charger, casing and a few iso games(maybe lol).

At the moment, shop dealers usually sell psp’s with 3.90M33 firmware installed on it.It’s an excellent firmware so don’t worry.

Extra information : You can do plenty of stuff on a psp.The one which is most famous to all psp users is homebrew. This are programmes created by other coders who are good at some programming language like C,C++ and so on.( i’m making my own one lol (beginner)).This includes games (shooters, mario etc),applications (psp pda, calculator, painting etc),emulators(GBC,GBA,NES,SNES etc).By using emulators, you can play old games like pokemon silver etc on your psp.

A psp is very useful. It also has internet browsing capabilities.(wi-fi).Photo viewing(jpg, png, tiff, bmp, gif),video (mp4),music(mp3 and wma),games of course (excellent graphics for a handheld system),play multi-player wirelessly with your mates..etc.It’s a fun gadget. You won’t regret buying it.

Here is the bad part (not entirely bad).A psp has it’s life (flash 0).Internal memory. If you curropt it or mess with it,it might brick your psp.Brick==Useless psp.(can’t boot). This at times happens when you upgrade/downgrade/flash rco themes etc.Flash 0 isn’t something to play with (i’m sure you won’t lol),unless you are good at it.Fortunately, there is a Pandora’s Battery which can unbrick your psp. :D :D :D

Feel free to ask if you don’t understand what i just posted. It may seem confusing,REAL confusing, lol…but yea it’s easy.Good Luck :)

  438. Playboy February 19, 2008 at 8:11 pm #

ah lol simony2k,i’m 15 and yup…preparing for PMR.Plenty of homework so yea….spend less time on computers.I’m also coding my first ever homebrew game :D Again man, sorry for replying late. :D

  439. Playboy February 19, 2008 at 8:24 pm #

simony2k,another note for you.Don’t worry, the fake version of a psp is known as a ‘POPSTATION’.It’s the worst thing in the world and i’ve never seen it in Malaysia. So,yea, don’t worry :) I also recommend you to get a UMD when buying your psp.

  444. Sabata February 19, 2008 at 11:24 pm #

hey guys….i’m planning to buy a full package of psp slim….i don’t want to end up like my previous purchase…spend rm1000 for my NDS Lite full package….so, is there any specific place that sell psp slim in a reasonable price? RM700-RM800 would lift my budget^^.

  445. simony2k February 20, 2008 at 1:59 pm #

playboy..finally i bought one PSP black for myself..i’ve done the comparison with other shops d and at last i found this shop wakaka…RM790 includes 4gb memory stick, crystal case, pouch and etc. they gimme the latest version 3.90 but i afraid its unstable..few softwares installed such as PSPtube, messenger and skype XD..oh ya…they provide 6 months warranty and gurantee for 14 days…PLAYboy, can u put more links(games) for slim in ur webpage?i wish i can dl from ur site…tQ!!

  446. Playboy February 20, 2008 at 3:27 pm #

Leem ok.lol setting cpu speed to 20 rocks hahaha..You do not need a wi-fi connection in order to enable flash player and also wma playback on a custom firmware psp. This can be very easily done in recovery mode.Go to recovery mode/Registry Hacks and boom!.You can activate both the functions and also switch the select buttons (like X and O).

Leem, the PSPTUBE 20080216 by Sofiya Cat is just a simple update. This means it only contains the eboot.pbp file. You’ll need to download the actual copy of PSPTUBE,then place the eboot.pbp file (that you downloaded in it).It should overwrite and you’re ready to go.

  447. Playboy February 20, 2008 at 3:31 pm #

    3.90M33 is stable.

  448. Blank February 21, 2008 at 1:23 am #

Wow, seems like you seem to be a veteran in tweaking PSP’s already, Playboy…

So, do you mind if i ask some questions?

I have yet to get a PSP, after reading around the comments, and walking around shopping complexes for the prices, i noticed that a slim PSP costs around 780++.
Which would mean that it’s probably a fake 4gb mem card right?
    The questions come in here…

1- So, is there any difference with the real and fake mem. card?
2- The PSP, probably (modded) will be able to run homebrew applications instantly after purchase? (the emulators, or are there any other requirements?)
3- Since the latest firmware is best, (it would probably come with it) do i still need to degrade it to 1.5 and re-upgrade it in order to play ISO PSX files? I’ve read that you need the 1.5 kernell or smth…
4- As for UMD discs, is it packed with the consoles all of you guys bought? Why would we still need UMD’s if we can use the mem. card?
5- Also, do I have to take note of anything or what to get when getting a PSP…

Sorry about the long questions and stuff. Got abit headache researching abt PSP when new terms keep poping up one after another <.<
    Thanks in advance.

  449. Playboy February 21, 2008 at 8:06 pm #

Blank, yes. There is a difference between a fake and an original stick, but it’s not very noticable though.Fake cards CAN cause errors during flashing process (upgrading/downgrading etc).Fake cards are also a little slower than an original stick.

If your psp is a psp slim, nope, you will not need any additional stuff. There is some good news for slim users,Time Machine is out (BETA).It allows slim users to enjoy 1.50 kernel homebrew as well. There are two types of homebrew.

    1=Normal 1.00 firmware homebrew.
    2=kXploited 1.50 firmware homebrew.

Fat psp’s with custom firmware installed on it can enjoy 1.50 homebrew (most of the homebrew).Slim psp’s however can’t do it unless you install TimeMachine…pain in the ass.Slims can play 1.00 homebrew though :)

3.90M33 is the latest firmware. You don’t need to install the 1.50 kernel patch (fat psp only) in order to load iso’s or ps1 eboots.ALL iso’s/cso’s work on 3.90M33 at the moment.

Depends, some shop dealers provide buyers with a free UMD.Getting a UMD is actually good as it can allow MAXIMUM iso compatibility for slim users.

    I actually recommend you to get a fat psp,it’s a bit better in some ways.Up to you though.Getting a slim isn’t a problem…just my choice :)

  450. Playboy February 21, 2008 at 8:17 pm #

Just to make you happier,i’ll explain more about the MIGHTY homebrew lol.

Homebrew are programs (game/applications/emulators) which are made by other psp users better known as coders or developers. They are good at programming languages like lua,C or C++.They code these homebrew, compile it (psp toolchain),then release it.

There are homebrews out there which has the ability to watch YouTube Videos,Read pdf’s (ebooks),create notepad files, listen to music, watch videos, draw or scribble, play flash games, emulate Gbc,Gba,Nes,Snes,Gb,ps1/psx,sega genesis,N64 and many other consoles and so on..
Emulation means you can play the above consoles ^^ games on your psp.Very useful.Homebrew is VERY fun.If you do have any coding experience, tell me and i’ll help you code homebrew for your psp.Not easy lol…Ok…back to school homework :D ..

  451. Blank February 21, 2008 at 10:16 pm #

Thanks again for clarifying and helping things out. It really helped me alot, now i have a fair idea of the stuff.

As for coding a own homebrew, i guess i’m still far from ready, although i am currently studying about it… Maybe in a few years time. Haha.

  452. Sabata February 22, 2008 at 1:33 am #

i found this awesome site! It’s a tutorial how to create a Pandora Battery and Slim memory stick without PSP Phat^^….check this out http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=81424

  453. Playboy February 22, 2008 at 1:36 pm #

haha blank. If you really are interested in coding homebrew, learn the C programming language.I feel it’s best for coding homebrew.I’m using C for all my codes.

  454. Playboy February 22, 2008 at 1:41 pm #

Sabata,ah…you got it wrong. That method is done by hardmodding. It can be done on all sony psp batteries. However, that method is VERY dangerous and it’s not at all recommended for newbies as it can result in injuries ( battery overheating ).I think it’s best not to try it…unless you are good at soldering and stuff.

  455. Leem February 22, 2008 at 6:13 pm #

hmm… does anyone here have a pmp converter?
such as apex or videora or maybe you guys have a better one?

i can’t try it cause i haven’t own a psp yet….>.<! Still searching from shop to shop for the best deal….n get the real stuff(Not Fake Memory or PSP!)
