PSP Price in Malaysia

Sony Playstation Portable (PSP) Value Pack
Some were asking about the Sony Playstation Portable(PSP) price in Malaysia. I don’t have the info in hands, so I ask for them in local newsgroup.

Here is Mark Ng‘s reply:

Yep, both US and Japanese versions are available. Japanese version costs around RM1000 or less. The US one is about USD$200 more(RM1200+).

Some shops are even carrying UMD Video. Most of them are Region 1.

Avalaible in Imbi Plaza, Sungei Wang, 1 Utama, MidValley Megamall and lots more.

My two cents

Seems like PSP is not as expensive as I thought. Check out PSP hacks for more things you can do with a PSP.

Update: PSP is more affordable nowadays, which is under RM1000.

PSP is cheaper from importer then getting it from Sony Malaysia. Couple of months ago, I was in a casual meeting with a local game distributor in charge of some PSP titles under their main brand company, the person said that Sony Malaysia will officially launch PSP somewhere in the middle of this year and with expected price of 1.6k.

Kinda overprice…besides, everybody knows that even Playstation2 are much more expensive in Sony Wings then normal shops.

  • zgnd

A local store at Malacca sell at RM1090. Whereas both XBOX and PS2 is selling at RM799. I think the price is reasonable now.

      Tipu la.. Psp 200 la

  • ks

The new disc format – UMD – key mission is to prevent imitation. But how long can it stands to be original, no one can tell :)

  • Straffic

    Hi guys/gals,

I’m new here, just found out this blog through the search engine. Because I’m looking for the price of PSP in Malaysia. I’m in UK now and UK will release the PSP in Sept 1 cost abt 199 pound. I heard my friend said PSP already had in Malaysia and cost only RM200++…well I think he is cheating. Anyone know the exactly price?

  • LcF

Straffic: yup, your friend bluffed you. The PSP in Malaysia is around RM1000(145 pound) to RM1200(174 pound).

  • jnukman

erm…..does anyone know where can i buy the sony psp around subang – shah alam???

  • cantique

guys, do u know the up-date price of psp within this month or so? which more cheaper do u think to buy psp whether in malaysia or singapore?

I should like to buy one within next week. Could u be kind in help me????

I also hear that the pirate game and mp3 is spreading along in Malaysia, is that correct? If so, where and how much?

    many thx. cantique

  • jax

does anyone no how much a psp game costs in malaysia?

  • chong

ok.. i’m local (Malaysian) and let me answer all of your questions here as I’m interested to buy one too but too expensive. PSP Value Pack price is around RM1299 here and the game price is ranging from RM250 to RM300.. Who could possibly afford to buy such an expensive game in Malaysia..? No pirated UMD disc yet in Malaysia. But now you can play PSP games via memory stick.. One thing in mind that you need a big capacity of memory stick in order to play the games. 1GB of memory stick from Sandisk costs around RM600 over. Expensive? Yes!! It is..

  • Mike

    Hi everybody!

I have a friend going to Kuala Lumpur on Friday.

What is the price for Sony PSP Value pack in Kuala Lumpur?

Where exactly can he buy one in Kuala Lumpur?

  • Chong

The cheapest PSP I can get in KL is RM1100.. I believe any shopping complex in KL you could manage to find one… even smaller complex also you could get it, like Selayang Mall, Ampang Park etc.. There are two version, US and Japan.. Japan version is cheaper than US…

  • ks

The killer application for PSP is multi players wireless gaming. But you should also be careful when buying the UMD disc. You’ll not be able to detect the other player who are playing the same game in different country version (US/Japan)

  • Derek Lim

I’ve just visited Hong Kong and Taiwan. HK is selling about RM1000 plus for a Japanese version without game. Taiwan, on the other hand, you can get a PSP with a game (GOLF) for around RM900 plus. Much cheaper compare around the region. Seems like all electronic goods are prised reasonably there.

  • Leiv

I just returned from KL, and the price of a value Pack in Sungei Wang was 700 MYR.

  • chong

I can’t believe that the price is dropped so tremendously.. Any idea what’s the current price of 1GB memory stick from Sandisk?

  • ks

MYR 700 for value pack? Which store???

  • Leiv

I cannot remeber the store, but in fact I asked 2 stores both said same price MYR 700. If you are in KL will be easy to find

  • chong

Went to Sg Wang just now.. Could you pls tell me which store that is selling PSP for RM700 for value pack? The RM700 is only includes charger and the device. The value pack around Sg Wang is about RM830 and 1gb of memory stick is RM450.. And there is one store saying that their PSP is version 1.0… means 1st batch.. hmm..

  • chong

Bought the PSP for my sis from Sg Wang.. Cost RM1330.. It includes one Value Pack, 1GB memory stick, one UMD Demo Disc (to be used to boot certain games in ISO format).. I’m sure the RM700 one is not a value pack..

  • fLaMe

Guys can u pls help me?? Are there imitation games for PSP in Malaysia yet? Im staying in KL area…. Pls tell me A.S.A.P.

  • jason

hey….i have a psp too…..and its from singapore(PSP1006-K) but i bought it here….the value pack cost about RM1150….

  • Knome

Hi guys, im going to be in singapore at christmas time, any idea of what the price the psp will be? Cheers

  • chong

RM1150 for a value pack?? Too expensive and you have been conned. As for imitation games, pls search it from the net and eventually you would find a way..

  • ks

Could you share where to get the free games EASILY?

  • chong

Hi ks… I really doubt where did you get your value pack for RM700.. Pls give me the location and the name of the store if it is true…

  • ks

hi chong, it wasn’t me who got it at 700. i also want to know where to get that :) i never expect a free lunch. i usually pay for my food, haha…

  • Knome

    Hi guys,

    As i asked before…

im going to be in singapore at christmas time, any idea of what the price the psp will be?

  • chong

Hello my friend… Christmas is still long way to go… How could anybody predict the price of PSP in another 3 months time. 3 months ago the price of PSP here was about RM1500.. Now is RM850.. I’ve read quite a lot of things about PSP and I found out that the price of RM850 in Sg Wang is consider quite reasonable comparing to Taiwan, Hong Kong and other asean countries. .. Why go to Singapore to buy? Let’s say you manage to buy one in Singapore for SGD350, here is about RM750… What if it’s faulty after playing it for less than a month? Ya, you can always go back to the shop in Singapore.. You save RM100 but you are taking a risk… Worth it?? Then do it… I got no interest in knowing the price in Singapore.. Unless it is less than SGD250… Possible?? Of course not…

  • shelbybaby

i’ve found this site EXTREMELY useful as i was shopping for a psp as a gift for a friend and i knew nuts about these sorta boy toys. the discussion here has absolutely given me a crash course on everything to do with psp purchasing. i just bought him one in 1Utama (this store beside TGV cinema) for the price of rm1199. its the new asia version (not japan or u.s) so its better in terms of dvd viewing etc or so the fella told me. its a value pack that comes with headset, pouch, device, charger, batt and 32mb card. i probably shud have gone to sg wang instead but that place gives me the creeps. so thank you all. i think he liked it a whole lot.

  • straffic

Haha…Look like you guys all talk about PSP. My room mate bought the PSP and I borrow it to play for a week. Actually, we r now in UK. UK sold it at 179 pound value pack. No game included. He He bought the Ridge Racer cost him 34.99pound. Wow damn expensive to have this big toy. Well, it is nice to have it. The screen is big, bigger than Gameboy LOL, color absolutely fantastic very clear and vivid.
Disadvantages:- only 32mb memory. So, if you want to watch movie you have to get 1GB memory and convert the file name to AVI.

Anyway guys, how much it cost a UMD games in M’sia? UK look like very expensive to buy a UMD games. Err better buy PlayStation 2 much cheaper and have pirated games LOL…Of course i know PSP can bring u around to play it, but it is too expensive for me to buy. Maybe, wait until th price drop haha..

  • johnny

Hi, I am from Malaysia.I would like to let everyone know about the current price for PSP in Sungai Wang.

PSP JAPAN VERSION BASIC RM700 (firmware 1.51 and above)

PSP GAMES RM 150 TO RM 200
PSP UMD MOVIE RM 120 TO RM 160

SANDISK 1 gb memory stick RM 380

*only psp with firmware 1.50 and below can play emulator and games on memory stick.

  • chong

Just bought my PSP Japanese version 1.5 for RM880 (could get RM860 but stick RM450) and Sandisk 1GB stick for RM380 in Sg Wang.. This is my advise to all the Malaysian in KL.. Buy gadgets (including PSP / HP) only in Sg Wang or Low Yat and make comparison from every store around before buying it.. How could one staying in KL doesn’t know that 1 Utama’s gadgets are more expensive?? sigh…
Straffic!!.. You said one game 34.99 is expensive?? Here the cheapest one is RM160… If one game here is RM34.99, I’d buy original games and would never play pirated.. I don’t earn much, just about RM1500… So one game takes me about 13% of my salary… This is what we call EXPENSIVE!!!.. One set of PSP (including 1GB stick) takes me about 85% of my salary.. This is what we call EXPENSIVE!!!.. sigh…

  • Straffic

Wow Chong you bought PSP only RM880..some more include 1GB memory. That’s cheap in Malaysia. Here is like 179 POUND..and only 32mb memory. if u don’t convert of course here cheap lah. But, if i convert of course here EXPENSIVE lah dude. It is around RM1230++….and the game here is 34.99 pound so is around RM240++….get it….
Yoh dude u at least earn some money from ur salary, me didn’t earn anything…i got to save in order to buy it…i think i will go back to M’sia buy rather than here…
Anyway, have fun with the PSP…i’m almost finished the Ridge Racer game. Quite nice the racing game. Recommended!!

  • Kenny

erh…i have a question here….i plan to buy a psp next month…and i was wondering if there’s dead pixel on the psp sold in malaysia? i won’t wanna spend my money on things that is not perfect…and is there anyway to get a cheaper 1G memory stick… coz my fren told me that he got it for 180++

  • johnny

I suggest you but a new psp because sometimes dead pixel can cause a lot of problem when playing games.
So far the cheapest 1gb sandisk memory stick pro duo I get is RM 365.

  • Kenny

thx Johnny.i got another question to ask…can i actually fit the whole dvd video in the memory stick pro duo? how big the file will be? izzit true that i can barely fit one dvd video only in the memory stick?

  • LcF

Kenny: since PSP support MP4, you can encode the DVD video into MP4 format (which is much smaller size) and store in memory stick.

  • johnny

Actually, the size of mp4 format depends on the video and audio quality. If the video and audio quality is best then you can not fit it in a 1gb memory stick.

  • chong

Nothing is perfect… Ya.. my newly bought PSP got 3 dead pixels.. Some more the screen got few dots (not eraseable)… I can accept it if it doesn’t give me big problem…
I recommend you all to use the PSP Video Express (free) to convert videos to PSP mp4 format… Use the google search engine and eventually you would manage to find it.. This program will let you know the size of the output video b4 you start converting it.. Look around in the net especially forum and you would find out a lot of answers…

  • johnny

Chong,if your psp got dead pixel then go and exchange because most of the shop allow to exchange within 1 week of purchase.

  • chong

According to the user manual (i downloaded it from the US site as mine is in Japanese language), the dead pixels are normal… Read the following extracted from the user manual..

“LCD screens are made with highly precise technology, but in most cases, black spots may appear, or red, blue or green may remain on the screen. This is not a malfunction.”

  • Kenny

erh…but didn’t u guys check whether got dead pixels or not during the time u purchase it ? To tell the truth i won’t accept even when it had only 1 dead pixel…some of u might hate me….but i’m one of those perfectionist…i can’t help it….sigh…

  • chong

I’m also particular about those things but when the user manual said it’s normal, means normal!!! Unless you want to be abnormal…
Pray to god that no one or yourself would scratch your PSP otherwise you would not have a peaceful night because it’s not PERFECT anymore… Unless you buy a new one….
Bear in mind.. Nothing is perfect…

  • psp rocks

i’m using the australia version 2.0.i bought it for like 399 man.i didn’t know malaysia so cheap.but they say those shop change all the things inside the box 1.all i know is v 2.0 cannot store games inside the psp.but i can go online with 2.0.can anyone tell me whether i can store games inside and where do i get the program and games?

  • chong

Currently you can’t do anything with v 2.0… You should have known this earlier on b4 buying if you wanted to play ‘free’ games…

  • johnny

I would to inform everyone about playing psp games on memory stick.Currently the best loader available is fastloader 0.7 which only support firmware 1.0 and 1.50.fastloader will let you play about 90% of psp games.(about 60 psp iso). However some psp iso size is more than 1 gb so better buy original psp games than buy a 2gb memory stick.
Here is the list of games which iso more than 1gb:

To know more about the psp iso, please email me at [email protected]

  • Kenny

i know nothing is perfect… but don’t u think it’s a little not fair when u pay the same price as anybody else and what u get is not as good as what others got? both my frens have no dead pix on their psp and what makes me deserve to have one with dead pix ?

  • chong

Bear another thing in mind… Nothing is fair…

  • chong

Another alternative loader is dev hook… It doesn’t need an UMD disc present in the drive… I love dev hook more than fastloader… I’d play all my games using dev hook unless few of them using fastloader when the dev hook failed..
I remember there have ripped version for Tiger Wood and MLB_USA where you can fit it into your 1GB stick.. As for Midnight Club, I’ve downloaded the rip kit but haven’t got the time to test it out…

  • Ron

hi guys…i’ve got a question in my mind that i have to make sure before i buy a psp , can anyone tell me wats the difference between US ver and JPN ver of psp y their price is so much diffrent? izzit true that JPN ver can only play japan games and US ver can only play US games? i’m confused

  • manu

hi guys i am living in australia and the current price of the psp here is about $397. i am planning to buy it on christmas could anybody tell me whats the price of the psp in malaysia and which version is better japanese or us in perfomance

  • psp in malaysia is alot more cheaper. around rm800, well not alot cheaper but still.
“which version we can watch pirated movies or play pirated games.”
please support original. don’t buy psp if u want to get warez games.

  • ah beng

so from the price above, the firmware 1.5 is more most people are getting this to be able to play pirated (more like, downloaded) games via mem stick?

i saw on another forum where you can downgrade it from 2.0 to 1.5. that means you can get the newer versions. other than firmware, are there any differences between them?

also, which version is better (JAP, US, ASIA)? what are the pro/cons? im thinking of getting JAP because i like Jap products! ( i can have english as language on it?? )

  • ah beng

    dear mr.ron :)
from what i know, the Jap,US, Asia can play any games (it is region-free) so you can play jap, english, games.
only the dvd – movies are region locked. you can only play dvds from Jap, or US, or asia. much like real (original) dvds.
but movies aren’t so great on psp, the main thing is games. so doesn’t mean its better to get your local PSP. you can watch downloaded movies on your mem stick anyway, which is free too (anime, porn, downloaded-cinema-quality-movies. yah yah)
but im not sure on other features too. like warranty and language. someone need to tell us.

  • johnny

japanese version psp can change it menu language to english and other language.regarding the downgrade firmware,I found out from the internet thaat it is fake and the current project has stop due to some reason.

  • chong

All of the questions about PSP games, movie, converter, loaders, rip kits and other homebrews software were answered in

  • LcF

Dear all, please do not discuss about pirate game here.

  • thanks LcF. im getting sick of people discussing pirated psp games.

  • ah beng

    ok, no piracy.
i want to know which version most people are getting and why. (either new or old firmware) and also (JAP. US or ASIA).
btw, would it be cheaper to get it overseas, like Hong kong or Japan? or where is cheaper?

  • fLaMe

Can anyone tell me how to put videos in my PSP?

  • PSP Australia

im in australia and wish to purchase psp from overseas…..what websites would you recommend to purchase online??? and what version???(Jap, Asia, Us) any websites in singapore that you know of?

  • ah beng

i’m also in Austtralia and looking on the internet, i heard some ppl saying that their JAPAN and US psp is able to play australian dvds. that is a region 1 and 2 able to play region 4.
im thinking of getting a JAP because, then it can play region 2 and 4.
from what i hear, there isn’t much difference in all the versions apart from the region lock for movies. only hear some rumors saying JAP is better.
i think if you want to watch movies often, get one according to where you purchase the movies.

  • Jo

It doesn’t matter which region you get, in the end the PSP can be hacked to suit whatever you want. All it takes is a simple emulator and you can play classic Genisis games, or GameBoy games on your PSP, same thing with playing movies – like how you can crack your DVD drive to play any region.

In the end it’s all the same hardware, save for the chip suppliers.

For those who are living in Melbourne. There is a shop in the carlton are selling PSP set for AUD 340+. I’m going to go check it out tomorrow with my friend and will post details later. All you have to do is give EBgames the contact for that shop and they will beat the price that’s offered by the other shop. I say that’s pretty fair o.o-b I’ve been shopping around for months now to get my PSP *drools*

  • squall

    [edit: no pirate game discussion]
…And anyone sure that online games are actually SUPPORTED here in Malaysia?do we have servers?if we do how come online games(e.g ff Xi) for ps2 doesn’t seem to be availale here?

  • ms

reply for “hey guys, i would like to know, that if u can play multiplayer games online using pirated psp games? ”

To be honest, I doubt you can..but you can always try..
you see, malaysian people tend to buy pirated games..that’s why they are not able to play online games for most of the PC games..just to name some: CS source, battlefield2, guild wars etc…Yes, I’m talking about the PC games..but i reckon it would probably be the same for PSP..pirated games = mostly no online features…so, it’s all about compromising…
do you all know that malaysia and china are the countries pirating most softwares??
If you dont believe, here’s the source..
Buying stuff in malaysia are really risky, I can say..

  • ms

reply for “And anyone sure that online games are actually SUPPORTED here in Malaysia?do we have servers?if we do how come online games(e.g ff Xi) for ps2 doesn’t seem to be availale here? ”

they dont have servers mostly because there are no demands. for example, to play ff 11 online, first, you’ll need a non-pirated game, a network adapter, a 10 gb harddrive..and also you’ll need to pay every month..not many ppl in malaysia are willing to pay this much money to play it if there is no demand..there will be no servers..

  • i think we cant play ff 11 online. Coz malaysian ISP not support it !

  • Krawl

Hi guys, im in Melbourne right now, going back to Msia by early Dec. Been dying for a PSP, but i need to know the price. Unfortunately im feeling overwhelmed by the amount of information here. First of all, if you buy PSP value pack u get all that stuff that was listed before. what if you buy PSP (not value pack)? what will you get? Just PSP and charger?

Secondly what is firmware? In Australia i heard its 2.0 and in Msia its 1.50. Whats the difference and what can each version do/cannot do? If i were to buy it back home, i would still end up buying games from Aussie so i need to know if i can still play Aussie sold UMD games.

i dont care about movies cause i dont wanna watch on a crappy small screen so if anything i would probably load movies from the PC. Thirdly can i still play wireless with friends with different version PSP and firmware?

Fourth is, i heard one of the versions(Jap/US) have better screen quality, is that true?

Either way i would prefer to buy PSP in Aussie cause its guarenteed to be original(dont completely trust sungei wang people), but if the price in Msia is too good to be true then i would buy it back home. SaintAngelius, where exactly is that shop selling for AUD340? can give me the specific address and shop name? Either way the curent price here is AUD399 which is almost RM1200 for value pack (i think they only sell value pack here)

if someone could pls take the time to answer all my questions it would really help me a lot to make my final decision. Than you guys!!!!

  • Krawl

Oh and one more thing, the PSP’s sold in Aussie are PAL format. So besides Australia which other countries can i buy games from? Can i still play games bought in Msia using a PAL type PSP?

  • Th3 z3d

i need to ask….. when buying a psp… does the made in ‘somewhere’ make a difference even if it is a japanese version? and.. whats the good things about the new firmware? PLEASE….

  • DenSha OtaKu

hi all…after reading all of the forums…now i know that it is a headache to look for the right price for the PSP (esp in malaysia)….is it true the cheapest PSP price in malaysia is at sg wang/imbi ??….cause im thinkin of gettin one…..n im still confused to choose whether jap,us or asia ver??

  • nicholas

get a us version will let u enjoy more choice of umd movie…coz most of the hollywood movie…blablabla…like spider man…resident evil…the hostage..war oh the world r in region 1…us version…if u like watching Po-Rn…or anime…get a jpn version…n it will b cheaper…for asia ver…u will get warranty from sony asia…coz asia oficial psp is asia version…my recommend is get jpn v..coz it’s cheaper than others….

  • DenSha OtaKu

thnx for the recommendation….i think i go for jap ver…im in a tight budget anyway….cant wait to get this year bonus…

  • James

Hey everybody like I said before were can I buy a PSP in Singapore im currently over there can anyone please post were I can find a cheap one!!

  • Tyco

Lucky Plaza in Orchard Rd has good prices. I bought for my son yesterday and they are asking S$250 (LOWEST) for console +charger alone + 33MB card. Many shops will ask S$300 or so and cannot bargain.

The shop I bought from was on the right side (CK Tang side) along the corridor on the lower level. We kept asking for US version but the salesguy seems to know his stuff and said does not matter about version for games (true) but for movies, then there is region lock. The unit we got had firmware 1.51.

Total cost of Value Pack + hard case + Media Manager USB cable was S$490 and I calculated that I saved at least 40% on Malaysian price. S$1.00 = RM2.30.

Now back in KL realise one thing… should have got him a memory stick also. 33MB is meaningless! Can only put some songs and not even games. Hardware is definitely cheaper down there so buy as much as you can afford.

I’m not a PSP fan myself but I can appreciate that it is an impressive device!

  • zaim

I juz Heard that the psp is selling 4 RM600++ at sg wang plaza. Do u guys know how much it is in holiday plaza jb

If you dont believe me just take a look here:

this has no doubt been answered before but anyway. i’m living in the UK and travelling to KL next week. I would like to get a PSP at a good price but need 2 know a few things.

    Where 2 get it from?
How much should I pay? Price in the UK is still £200 (about 1300 MYR)
    What type to get?
    Should the warranty be worldwide?
What can I/can’t I buy/play on it from the UK if I buy in KL? this is the main thing – I don’t want to not be able to get anything for it when I get back home.

    Thanks very much

  • mamboandrew

If I have a UK? PSP can I play games/movies that i buy in malaysia?

    ey.. dropped already..

but i dont know malaysia price., is it cheaper?

  • cslee

Hi all, I think you guys should go to the Sony Style at The Curve and have a look of those PSP packages offered. To me the price quite reasonable. Range from 1299 to 1699, some with free games, some with free Zorro pack (which I think must have), some free 1g mem stick and value pack. Ceramic white is available now.

  • cairel

cslee everyone knows that things at sony style is damn xpensive. (emmm wonder if you work with them ahaks!!! :p)

anyway i survey for a PSP at sungei wang today :-

    standard pack RM700
    value pack V 1.5 RM800/RM830/RM900
    MS Stick Pro 1GB RM300/RM320/sony style sold @ RM345
    D/load Games One for RM15/RM20
    A Disk contains 15 D/load games RM50

A shop at level 4 offer me

value pack V1.5(RM900) + 1GB MS Pro(RM320) + 3 Disc of Games “45 games” (RM120) + screen protactor for RM1350 i think its still xpensive but thats the only shop that sold a compilation of games :)

  • cslee

Cairel, if I work with Sony, I will get cheaper than that :P.

Anyway, thanks for the info. In fact I am still searching for the best deal. I am looking for something like white PSP+1gb+free game (UMD)+software bundled+screen protector. will try to search in Sg. Wang.

I think most of the games offered there are for 1.0 and 1.5 only right?

What is the firmware version for the ceramic white PSP?

  • eds

    hi ppl.
wats the price difference between the ceramic white and the black psp?
is the cecramic white better or just a different color?
wat does the standard pack and value pack have?
cairel. wat sort of games do they have in the disc of 15 games?
are they the good games like gta and sims, or lousy ones?

  • Nash

    Hi there!
I’m in Taiwan at the moment and I’m contemplating on buying a psp. Is the Taiwan version the same as the version found in South Africa?
    Please help!!
    See ya!

  • cairel

Just bought mine yesterday, wohoooo!!!! ahaks!!

Paid RM1300 using credit card, ahaks!!! i got PSP value pack (Black) + 1GB MS pro (with pre install Pro Evolution Soccer 5 & Dead to Right) + screen protector + 1 game gear pocket + 1 13 in 1 game disc (codes armes/dead to right reckoning/harry porter & goblet of fire/kingdom of paradise/lumines/ madden NFL 06/medievel resurrection/mercury/namco museum/need for speed most wanted/smart bomb/spiderman2/toca racer driver 2)

I think its the best deal i got. bought it at xbox store@ level 4 of sg want (walk towards Metrojaya of BB plaza)

Only 1.5 & below can play the download games. So they still sell 2.0 & 2.5 version.

Sametime i also bought one original UMD games for RM140.

And I think white & black is just a colour different.

  • TT

    hey y’all!

  • vyan

  • wal

would somebody please let me know if it does

  • vyan

emm..anyone here knows what are the price for PSP at shah alam central…

  • Rob V

Ok, I was in Malaysia last week, went into Sugai Wang, BB Plaza, Low Yat, etc. Best place to go is Sugai Wang, here are the indicative best prices from my scan around the shops – Standard console RM800, Value Pack RM900, Value Pack plus 1GB MS Pro Duo RM1150 (all prices based on firmware 1.5 black model only). Ceramic seems to be available only in firmware 2.5/2.6, prices are pretty much the same as the black. Happy shopping!

  • FLC

does anyone know if I got a deal , I bought a PSP ver 1.5 and a 2 giga memory stick.. for RM1200

  • cslee

Just be careful guys, make sure what you pay is what you get, unless you don’t mind, original parts come with higher price tag. some may offer you cheaper price, but they may give you non original parts like charger, batteries… or higher games price.

I went to Sg Wang last Sat, full original Giga Pack from RM1030- 1150. Try if you can get cheaper price after the PS3 launched. :P

  • LcF

    Holiday Plaza, Johor Bahru.
PSP value pack + 1GB MS Pro Duo = RM1100
    Firmware ver.: 2.50

  • KS

just found out that got another promo for white psp la… any 2 UMD + 512MB 1699 wor…

  • Steve

em..may anyone tell me what’s the current price for PSP + 1G memory stick? i’m thinking to get one next week..if i don’t wish to get original games? i could download it thru the web or not? n then what’s the different of firmware 1.5 n 2.5? thanks!

  • LcF

firmware 2.5 does NOT play download games.
it is hard to get a PSP ver1.5 nowadays…

  • FLC

i heard a guy name fanjita already created the homebrew for firmware 2.5, it’s a matter of time when downloaded games can play on fw2.5

  • Steve

if i buy psp fw 2.5 later can modify to play downloaded games right?

  • FLC

they know how to hack 2.5 and 2.6 already, but loader will not come out so soon as fanjita said, he will take all his own sweet time to do it… anyway heard that the PSP2 gonna come with a microdrive…

  • dumdeedo

Just a question, are most PSPs sold in malaysia JAP versions with sharp screens or US versions with samsung screens? anybody had any problems with dead pixels from the units bought from sungei wang so far?

looking to buy… just curious… :) Thanks in advance! :)

  • zero

i just bought a 1 gig memory stick which cost rm260.the dealer said there is original and pirated memory stick.i decide to buy the original sony 1.the pirated 1 around rm200(if you know how to negotiate with the shop).

  • ks

hey zero, where did you get that original 1G MS?? that’s cheap!!

  • zero

i get it from the shop that i always purchased the psp should be the cheapest in shop is located at the main entrance level of sungei wang,in front of the entrance of parkson(not the entrance at the mobile phone teritory). The other entrance at the back side of plaza(where many game shops are located). The shop is in front of the men toilet.Sorry i forgot the name of tht shop but it is a corner shop.(‘_’).Beside tht,i think the price at low yat is not reliable after found out tht i can get a better price at offer me rm280 for sandisk 1 gig ms.(sandisk cannot be more expensive than sony original)

  • zero

NOTE:the price for virtua tennis:world tour has drop to RM130.

  • ks

Travelling next and the following week in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. Where to buy PSP?

  • valeron

hm, planning to buy psp in april….where should i go?…i mean the exact shop in sg. wang particularly……i need psp v1.50 below since that is the only one can play installed games(am i right??!!)……and at least 1GB mem stick….(sony or sandisk…whatever)…..and free game too…..

  • Philip

I got an offer from Holiday Plaza (JB). PSP 1.5 (black) JAP version + 1 gig MS, 60 games= 6 cds + eloader = RM1.3k … What do you guys think? Worth the 1.3k?? Or are there cheaper deals out there at the moment?

I’ll be checking prices at Sim Lim (sg) and Lucky Plaza (sg) tml.

  • LcF

Philip: it is hard to find PSP 1.5, isn’t it?

  • petrakhus3d

    good info here.
i think should wait until the price drop. im planning to have one PSP.

  • FLC

i think RM1.3 can get u the 2GB memory stick,… i bought mine in Kulai, johor

  • Philip

Hey. LUCKY PLAZA (SG) IS CRAP! DUN EVER GO THERE!!! Bloody Ah Bengs wanna cheat money.

I went Sim Lim today, the cheapest pricelist i found.
    PSP 1.5 (value pack) = $430
    2GIG MS = $176
    1 Game = $60 – $72
    USB cable = $45 (WTH?)

The outlet i found outside SIm Lim Square (beside Sim Lim Tower)
    PSP 1.5 (value pack) = $439
    2 GIG MS= $170
    1 game = $60 – $72
    USB calbe = $10

PRICES AT LUCKY PLAZA ARE ATTRACTIVE! BUT!! Be REALLY careful with what you choose. Not everything is real. damn it.

I haven’t bought a PSP yet. Still thinking either i shld get it at holiday plaza (jb) or sg. Any comments? Oh ya, what are the things to check before purchasing one? I dun wish to get cheated.

I’m looking for a PSP 1.5v (frm japan) original, with a 2 gig MS. budget under RM1200.

  • FLC

if u convert the price , it’s more expensive… and don;t bother about the accessories given in the value pack… pretty crap… u can use any headphone with it, the pouch ..ouch…not nice.. but most important thing must have the screen protector sticker…

the PSP alone now around RM799 and 2 GB memory about RM400 but let me tell u, most memory stick out there are fake now… so i think no point buying orginal since u might got cheated… just get MS on the cheap and ask for warranty.

I bought mine at RM1200 , PSP + the 2GB memory stick… and 1 UMD game RM90 (this UMD disk is for the purpose of booting, some loader needs it but now there’s a new loader out there no need UMD disk, I think devhook GL)

forget about the CDs they are offering, you can download almost all the game they offer on the web… just make sure they install the Firmware 1.5, please check version before leaving , and ask them to install the latest fastloader, UMD emulator and devhook, other than that, u can learn more from internet, once u got your machine,… visit I’m in there with nickname FLC

Another thing to note…. dead pixel or stuck pixel…. I got mine with 1 stuck pixel… according to the internet, still can accept, but more than 5 don;t accept… if the dead pixel happened to be in the middle, don;t accept , ask to change

  • valeron

  • Stan

I just bought my psp value pack about a week ago and i found out it was gergous..very exciting to play with..i bought it at sungei wang and cost me about 940MYR together with wiining eleven 9 UMD games.

  • LcF

    @Stan: what firmware version? 1.5?

  • empiro’ aiya`dt

im from india and will be in KL, malaysia in june, can someone please tell me where to buy from psp 1.5 black, 2gb mem, ******
    thanks in advance

  • Sam

well….I’m a malaysian but now i’m currently in USA to study.

a value pack with 1GB memory disk with RM 800 is a bull shit.

i bought my psp(value pack) cost $260 plus tax and it just have 32mb memory disk.i didn’t see before a pack that has 1GB memory in there before…dont lie. 1GB memory sold separately…

when i bought this psp,it has a version of 2.0 and now is 2.6 since i have bought a new game and it will recommend to upgrade in order to play the game.

btw a 1GB memory here cost around $60-80 depends where u buy it.i know the prize with drop sooner or later but i wont buy it now.too costly.btw i think 256 or 512mb is sufficient to me.. a saved game just need about 256kb(the highest i have now)

i currently have 5 games and will buy the newest game that will be released on May 25 that is Monster Hunter Freedom. Tomb Raider release on the same date but i wont buy it since this game is too easy.(not challenging, low rated as well) also on PC and PS2

if u have any question pls email me…i hope we can compare prizes in Malaysia and USA…i will be coming back on this coming summer…miss my parents though.=)

  • Sam

oh btw..what is the psp game cost in Malaysia??can u list up some for me?

    thanks alot. really appreaciate that

  • ks

Sam, there is a pack that comes with 1GB MS. It’s called GigaPack instead of the normal Value Pack. Try to do a image search on google and you’ll get it.

how much are psp games in malaysia at the moment?

  • jocelyn84

    hi ,

isn’t 1.6version whenever we often boot the psp to play dowloaded games can spoilt the psp in long run… i heard it from saleman from and they recomended 2.7SE version of psp. they said that it is already stabil console to play downloaded games. How true is it?? How much the price i can expected for a 2.7 version.
pls do give ur comment . How reliable is salemen giving original parts in purchase of psp?

  • WANK3R

u can get a version 1.5 PSP with a version 2.7 devhook with accessories (umd pouch, hard case, 6 downloaded games, USB data transfer cum charger cable, desktop charger with built in speaker, screen protective sheet) and best of all a 4 GIGABYTE..yes 4 GIG ladies n gentlemen..sandisk memory stick all for an out of this world price of rm 1600!!! (approx 435,000 korean won) …but the catch is u have to go to korea (yong san electronic city)..i know i did..n i’m lovin it!!!!…parap pap pap pap..!

Do any of you guys know where to get pink psp?

  • AngelBear

    Hihi… i’m from penang, malaysia..
i plan to buy a psp, can anyone explain to me how many version they have in market?
    i m confuse…
    seems there are V1.51, V1.50, V2.5….
which one is the lastest one?
    what’s different between them?
    which one is worth buying…

  • jocelyn84

    hi angel bear ,

if u wan to play downloaded games best get original 1.5 version cause if u wan to play games at 2.7 version u can use a devhook software (which u install in ur memory stick) to play.2.7 version can sometimes can’t play other games plays in 1.5 upgrade the software version so that they can stop hackers from cracking it. now only 1.5 and 2.7 have been crack. becareful when u buy psp from dealer cos they might change ur headphone , battery and charger for an imitation. Memory stick for sony original 2 gig is rm350 . pls look at sony official website to see how the stick look like. the imitation for 2 gig has a red color front label which is a 512 mb upgrade to 2 gig… this is nnot original….

Be carefull.. ask for a original regardless of the price.. pls check ur bar code number to know where the console come from… check ur website cos different code bar show different region…

when u buy psp be prepare to spend money… all console need at least 1 ORIGINAL UMD to play downloaded game and devhook software…

    jocelyn from penang

  • AngelBear

    hi jocelyn84,

    Thanks for the info….
my fren now at megamall, prai.
he’ll help to to ask for the price here.
hope the price not much different from KL so i not need go there buy… (fingers crossed)
i’ll update the details after i get from him…
    hehehe….. ;p

  • AngelBear

    1.5v + 2GB MS + 2 games = rm1300
    at Megamall, Prai

  • jocelyn84

    to angel bear.

pls visit…. it another forum where they talk more of psp…

what type of brand is the memory stick… which region (country ) that the psp console come from? games is it a umd or they download for u ? for me i see it expensive… if u come to kl , especially sg wang you might be cheated well there as well cos sg wang is famous for that…unless u have an expert along with u.. as i said be careful of ur console being given either total original or partly…pls do take time and do ur research on psp before u get it …

most important is get the total machine purel orignal regardless of price… buy value pack … if possible get scan disk for a memory stick. it more expensive… at least a 2 gig or more…

  • jin_chick

    hi…i also psp feverist..
i yet to buy 1,but confuse where to buy…
actually i study in russia, but i’m from penang… now here the price is expensive..
value pack about rm1150,basic pack rm900,but totally no problem with pirate cause they dont do here…
and i wanna reply to gerliez, pink psp is selling here at about rm 1090 basic pack..
i wanna ask 1 question: do anyone have problem with console? often brokedown or rosak then send to claim waranty?

  • jin_chick

    and also another question…
whats the price difference in buying a value pack at gaming shop and buying at sony wing or sony official shop?
what are the pro n cons?
do ppl buy at sony shop?

  • johno

    Hey 241jocelyn84 (post #241)
Come on, there’s another [email protected] which works with 1.5v best and even the TA-082 motherboards, and it doesnt need a umd in the drive at all. But the catch is, only 80-90% of the games work. If you do your research well, you will know what I mean. Disclaimer: I am not encouraging [email protected], so u need to have to buy the umd to play the umd.

And the red label at the front does not mean it is a fake mem0ry stick, please go check ebay for their fake mem0ry stick guide. Here’s the link.

If you dont know anything, then dont say anything.

  • Arda

    Hello everyone,

I dropped it 3 times.. and 1 time my toddler threw it… and it’s still fine… I was expecting worse as the memory stick jumped out… when I dropped it on the road… but it is working fine… what a product… and about the price… better get it from individual shop… and no need value pack… just but the console and get a 4G memory.., I’m using non orginal memory and it’s still working fine *touchwood*

i would like to ask all the taigo here .. which version of PSP is better now ?

    1.5 ?? 2.71 ?? or 3.02E-B ( or something like that ) ??

i would like to purchase a white one but i need to know which version can play all the homebrew and the downloaded one … i hope that it is discussable ..

  • last month i went to sungei wang with my friend. he just bought the white sony psp 2.71SE with 2 gig high speed(not original) and 3 ISO games (total package=RM1130). Please remember that some seller will give you non original headphone with remote control, Pouch and handstrap. i have to check out the package coz i have a psp too that i bought from Singapore. Be careful to any seller in sungei wang coz my friend has been cheated after he went back home, he found out the strap and cloth has been removed. Fuckin shit to all of you claim to be Sabahan and speak fluent malay. i have to tour all around there to check out the original box and the package. if you wanna buy a memory stick, make sure u get the Sandisk memory stick or get it from sony dealer. i will recommend that if you wanna buy psp just check out the package from Please Remember don’t buy any sony psp that got firmware 2.72 – 3.2. you won’t able to play ISO game(original umd game format can be transfer to memory stick)

  • clc

Does the PSP come with warranty ? I have been asking a few shops in Penang and they say it does not come with any warranty. Is this normal ?

  • prawn

I’m looking for the psp lite in malaysia. Anyone know the price? Haha. Hopefully not that expensive :)

  • hanarumitryogi

    Hi guys,
I went to sungei wang yesterday.

I found out reasonable prices like:
    RM 800 – RM 880, you get:
    – Console (ver. 3.4 / 3.56, modified)
    – Adaptor
    – Battery
    – Soft Pouch
    – 4GB memory
    – Screen Protector
    – and, they can put ANY download games you like.

Oya, and for the PSP Slim and Lite,
    I found it around RM 780 – RM 1080.
But you only get console and adaptor.

Quite OKAY, right the prices?? :)

But not every stores that’s gonna sell PSP Slim and Lite really understand about console and games.
Like when I asked one store, they said they will sell it next week,
but when I asked store next to it, they said they will sell it next YEAR,
and, when I asked the store next to it, they sell it already!!
    Sounds stupid huh?
I even almost got in the fight with the shopkeeper. Wew.

Hope I can help you guys with the info.
    Take care!

  • mirzan

how much the price psp now in sungai wang plaza, kuala lumpur

  • LcF

@hanarumitryogi: thanks for your information. :)

  • hello there guys,i’m a 14 year old Malaysian boy.I’m a PSP hacker. Before any of you guys buy a psp, make sure the psp is around RM700–>RM900.If it’s 900 and above DONT buy it.Many Malaysian shop owners cheat n00bs.(No hard feelings). If they sell you a psp with firmware 2.00–>3.52 and they say “i have to downgrade your psp to 1.50 and then upgrade to custom firmware. This will cost about RM200” DONT buy from him.PSP fat’s are very easy to upgrade/downgrade.If you don’t want to wase too much money,go to a shop and ask for OFFICIAL firmware instead of custom firmware(they charge more for custom firmware).try getting a psp with firmware 3.50 or lower. And make sure you buy a UMD-original game-of LUMINES 1.This will allow you to downgrade to 1.50 and upgrade to custom firmware in a snap of a finger. For more help come to and click the “live chat”.I’m a staff member there and i can asure you maximum service. From Playboy….Peace

  • Hey guys,Do any of you guys sell bricked psp’s?,If so how much?,If the price is reasonable,i wanna buy some. :D

  • helo.

is anybody know how much PSP in langkawi, malaysia?.

i heard that langkawi is the best place to buy gadgets.

    answer me please.

  • Orivpeace, the region of your psp doesn’t matter. All UMD games(No matter Japan or America)work like a charm on all psp’s.Only UMD video is a problem as you need the correct region to play the UMD.It’s not a problem on custom firmware psp’s as the fake region can be switched easily in recovery mode.

  • Guys, try getting a psp slim with cfw and ORIGINAL memory stick for RM800.You can get it in Plaza Masalam(shah alam, beside Concorde hotel).Fake memory stick can cause bricks especially when flashing.Fakes are good for iso’s,but not good for flashing/hacking.

  • sniper_cr3w

  • sniper_cr3w

No big deal mycado …. for zoobank – Custom FW 3.71 – M33-3 and sony 3.71 is the latest firmware …ask shop dealer … go for custom FW is much better … can do a lot of things …

  • zoobank_93

how much is it .where can i get at a good price.i hope also when buy no need to upgrade or downgrade.i just want the psp itself, charger, baterry, adapter and a 4GB memory or 2GB memory so is it cheaper to get it that stuff only?

  • zoobank,Try getting a fat psp with either 1.50 or custom firmware.(3.40oe-a or 3.52m33-4)3.71m33-2/3.71m33-3 is a little buggy as it contains many prx bugs. The 3.72-HX firmware sucks too.So try getting a 3.40oe-a or 3.52m33-4 psp.Summit or Plaza Masalam is my opinion. For more info, visit us on IRC chat.

  • zoobank_93

by the way how much is it at place where anyone knows can get the cheapest price for just the psp itself, charger, baterry, adapter and a 2GB the 1.50 or the 3.40oe-a or 3.52m33-4 can play games both using the cd behind the psp and the memory stick?

  • fw is the firmware of your psp. It’s the version of your psp.Sony release newer firmwares for bug/features/security updates. And your questions “3.71 and 3.72”’s basically the same with a few bug patches. If you’re on a slim, you need another fat psp with 1.50 or custom firmware to make a Pandora’s Battery to install either 3.60M33 or 3.71M33-3.If you’re on a fat psp,you need another fat psp with 1.50 or custom firmware to make a Pandora’s Battery to downgrade your firmware to 1.50 then upgrade to custom firmware(i recommend 3.52m33-4).Only then you can play pirated games.

  • Mycado

    sound so complicated~anyway,thanks~

  • Guys…Do any of you guys sell bricked psp’s?..I really wanna buy some..In KL or Shah Alam.Thank you.

  • PSP-Newbie

I’m looking to get a PSP before Christmas. found this useful forum and would appreciate your advice.

I checked out price of PSP at some shops in Summit USJ and Sunway Pyramid over weekend. The total package for PSP Small & Lite is:

PSP console, battery, adapter – RM650-700
    4GB memory stick pro duo – RM150-190
UMD original game – RM120-150 (need this as boot disk to play downloaded games on memory stick. Alternative is to pay for a some firmware upgrade which will cost RM50, but then can only play 90% of the games)
    TOTAL – RM950-1000

Best deal I got is RM950 for PSP, 4GB memory stick pro duo + 1 UMD original game, plus screen protector and casing.

Is this a reasonable price range?

Appreciate your feedback and advice. I just don’t want to get conned. Thanks.

  • eow

Question: is the newer the fw is…. the faster the psp run?( umd/iso/game speed i mean)

  • john

  • mike

Hi Guys! Im from Philippines. My officemate is going to malaysia this coming week, and i’m asking him a favor to buy me a PSP slim. Would like to know if how much would the psp slim cost in malaysia, and where can he buy? I would really appreciate your reply. Thank you in advance.!! =)

  • Phoe

Hi Mike. I would Advise your friend to get it from Sungei Wang If he is going to KL. There, you can get the modified version for about RM820 and above (Bundled with the 4GB Memory Stick) :) i just went scouting on the price 2 days ago. If you were to buy a non modified one, you can actually go to KLCC Sony Style (3rd Floor) where they sell it for RM799 (Battery, charger and Console included.)

  • As i said before get 3.52m33-4,3.71m33-3 is suitable for piracy(games on memory stick) but it’s a NO-NO for hacking.3.52m33-4 and 3.40oe-a is the best for hacking in my opinion.

  • And this reply is for eow,the best way to get an iso game to run at full speed is to BUY an original UMD and change several settings in recovery mode. This settings include:
    No UMD:disabled>>>>3.40oe-a
    No UMD:Either the Sony or M33 Driver>>>3.52m33-4

Certain games like Gta Lcs,Fifa 08,require higher speed.Only newer custom firmwares support this feature,3.40oe-a,3.52m33-4,3.71m33.
Go to recovery mode/cpu speeds and change the CPU speed in UMD/ISO=300.

Playboy advises: to go into Recovery Mode, you will have to turn OFF your psp (hold the powerswitch up for 10 seconds). Then hold the R-TRIGGER and while holding it turn your psp ON.

  • Mike,i would say that psp slim’s come cheap in Plaza Masalam,Shah Alam Section 9.They sell already hacked psp slims(3.71m33-3 done with the Universal Unbricker). But i’d rather get the fat psp as it’s much more suitable for hacking.Silims are good for piracy but they aren’t good for hacking. If your friend isn’t the “hacking” kinda type, then get him a slim :) ,To make him feel better, download and install PTF themes for him,it’s very simple.Just place the PTF in PSP/THEME.

  • Leem

hmm… i think im going to get wat i want this weekend =D
a hacked psp slims(3.71m33-3 done with the Universal Unbricker)
Thx for your info Playboy =)

erm… wat is a PTF themes? a homebrew app.?

  • -z-

hi people i am doubt of something….

4gb memory stick high speed pro duo

and 4gb memory stick pro duo…

    both not original..

do they have differences?? .. thanks..

  • PTFs are themes which SONY created. They made a PTF theme maker which allows users to make their own themes.PTF themes are simple themes and it’s very easy to install unlike the Rco/prx themes that were commonly used on previous custom firmwares. And it’s NOT a homebrew application………Let me ask again,do any of you guys sell bricked psps?,i really need some for experimenting purposes..i need it before my school starts..Next year got PMR :(

  • -z-…There is no difference actually. It’s just used as usual to cheat users.I adivise you to get an original memorys stick as it peforms better compared to fake sticks.Fake sticks are horrible for hacking as they can corrupt a psp while flashing. But for iso purposes…the pirated stick oklah. :D

  • Leem

Next year PMR huh @@” which mean u r juz 14 years old kid =X
damn… nowadays kid are so good on this kinda stuff.
im 20 oledi~ juz started to understand a PSP console LOL~
Playboy, i bet u r going to be a PSP technical or something like tat XD

  • Hahahahaha Leem…xD

  • elle

Im going to get psp slim @ KLCC(convention center) this weekend. PC fair starts from tomorrow (7th-9th)! hope i can get a good price. Playboy- u said version 3.71 is good for piracy..not for hacking rite? what do you mean by hacking? what can we hack? i need to know so i dun regret later. i was hoping that i can do alot more on my psp rather than just playing games. I heard that we can surf the net @ any wifi zone avail. is that true? and some says we can even chat on mirc. nice.
Is there any other info u could give me so that i wont be cheated?

N most important, sg wang console is so cheap n some says that it is a RECON set (a second hand set that have been re-newed so it looks like a brand NEW set) How can we possible reconized a recon set n a new set? u have any idea?

looking forward for your reply, playboy. thanks in advance!

  • waiting for an answer for my Qstion please ? time is running out for me … Qstion lies above !! Plz do check !!

P.S: i Dont have much knowledge about PSP yet

  • elle,i’ve personally tested 3.71m33 psp.The updates when smoothly.3.71m33–>3.71m33-3 with the kernel150 patch. That firmware is perfect and stable but it isn’t good for themes.I do not mean the PTF ones,i mean the prx’s.Flashing themes on it is risky as it might result in a fully bricked psp(Cannot use).I believe shopkeepers do NOT install the kernel150 patch when selling the psp’s.Therefor, hacking is made a little harder….but it’s very easy if you try hard enough ;) .The kernel150 patch is needed in order to run homebrew application/games/emulators.Homebrew means games or applications made by other users with advanced C++ knowledge.Using this homebrew feature, you can run some really cool emulators like Gbc,gba, nes, snes etc. This means you can play all the olden games on your psp.To make it better,it runs at full speed. The reason why i mentioned that 3.71 isn’t suitable for hacking is because you have to install the addons seperately, unlike previous firmwares like (3.40oe-a,3.52m33-4)where the kernel150 patch comes in the installer it self.Hacking on 3.71m33-3 does no harm whatsoever,it’s just that you need to be patient and have to install a few additional stuff :)

  • And elle,as i’ve mentioned before, the slim is no where as good as the fat psp.The fat psp is of course heavier but a hacked set can play ALL homebrew unlike the slim psp which can only play SOME homebrew.SOME=1.00 kernel homebrews.Slim also doesn’t have the infra-red feature which i find really important ;)

  • kool_buddy,Try getting a fat psp with either 3.52m33-4 or 3.71m33-3.Any firmwares lower than 3.40oe-a is UNACCEPTABLE seeing that plenty of games require 3.40++.I’ve checked around and realised that most of the shop sells fake memory sticks…..try getting an original stick IF you want to hack your psp.The term hack in this case refers to : Upgrading/Downgrading.A standard psp should cost around RM600–>RM800.After adding a few games, protection screen and a few other utilities,it should come around RM1000–>RM1100.DO NOT buy if it’s higher than the price that i’ve suggested. And have a good time in Malaysia and Singapore :D

  • elle,We can talk in IRC.I’m a staff member at #psp-hacks chatroom. We help with all psp related issues, but piracy is a NO-NO.Check for more info.

  • elle,i forgot to mentioned in my previous reply…hope this isn’t considered as spamming xD .The psp internet browser is highly overrated,it’s actually kinda sucky to be fair.I’d rather get a PDA for surfing the internet. You also mentioned that you want your psp to do much more than playing games,if you want to enjoy the best features, you need to install the kernel150 patch on your psp (If it’s 3.71m33)I will help you do it…if you need my help :D .There is a few homebrew applications which allows cool features. You can read PDF’s(bookr and pspreader),listen to radio(not local channels though),play olden days games(emulators),code C,C++,watch PMP videos(High quality videos which are smaller in size and higher in quality compared to psp mp4).The features are just amazing, check out …to get a clue on what i’m blabering about :)

  • Leem

does the PTF theme background picture move?(moving background picture)
such as the one with PS3, looks like some white smoke moving on the background image.
or it juz for the Rco/prx themes that only support by cfw?

  • Leem,PTF themes are similar to Top_Menu_plugin.rco.It’s only the icons and background(still wallpaper).System_Plugin_bg.rco which are the waves(moving background)can’t be used via PTF themes. If you want to get the coolest themes(Maximum Customization) I’d go with 3.52m33-4 because it’s safer to flash the .rco themes.I’m using a the called AppleCor with lava waves, check this out..This isn’t my psp though ;) Playboy advises:You can see AppleCor theme in action –>

  • nz

what is the latest sony psp price????

  • Leem

yea~ juz get a new black psp slim for myself :)
hmm… for the first touch i was shock for the weight of it, it was way too lite LOL! it make me felt like it’s not so… erm… maybe not so solid? :S
another thing is fingerprint all around my psp zzz

Playboy, for the AppleCor theme i guess it only suit with 3.52m33-4 :(
the dealer put a 3.71 m33-2 for me, sad i cant get the cool AppleCor theme.
i heard that psp slim cant get a cfw that lower then 3.6? izzit real?

  • Ahh.No Problem elle ;) and sorry for the late replies because i was on a holiday with my family.NZ…psp’s are around RM 700(console only)….both fat and slim psp’s are the same price. The region doesn’t matter. The only difference it makes is that it supports the region UMD Videos(Useless). The Japanese region psp’s are usually ceramic white and has newer options in newer firmwares like Portable Tv…etc. These features are useless since 1) We don’t understand japanese xD.2)The connect spots are in Japan ONLY.Regions aren’t a matter in custom firmware psp’s because you can switch regions easily in recovery mode.Regions are important for theme flashing too. Most of the themes (99% rco themes) DO NOT work on Japanese regions.I advise to set the fake region to America or just Disable it.Recovery Mode–>Configuration–>Fake Region=Disable/America.

  • FANTASYX2,Get either a psp slim or psp fat( Your Choice). The shop dealer would usually install custom firmware on it.At the moment, the one’s that are being installed are 3.71m33-2.This version allows iso games as well as all the newer UMD( original games ).With the kernel150 addon installed, you can enjoy homebrew games/applications.Homebrews are made by other psp users that understand the C,C++ language.

  • KiDuLt,You have to upgrade your psp to newer custom firmwares in order to enjoy newer games UMD/iso.Also,3.10oe-a is totally outdated and doesn’t allow rco customization. You can either upgrade to 3.52m33-4 or 3.71m33.Both are excellent firmwares but on 3.71m33,you need to do a lil’ extra work…updating..patching.But it’s very simple and safe.If you upgrade to any of the firmware’s i mentioned, you might be able to get AT LEAST RM700.This is because you include games..i believe plenty ;) and it’s a Value Pack psp seeing that you have all the stuff included in the pack.Value packs are very hard to find..resulting in dealers to sell fake straps,pouches,cases….etc.Doesn’t matter though….as long as your psp is safe ;)

  • Leem,i see that you’ve got a good deal :D Congratz.hehe yea,the psp slim doesn’t feel as solid as the fat one.And don’t worry, you can enjoy PTF themes ;) .There are newer updates for 3.71m33.The latest one is 3.71m33-4 which is morer to psx game loading functions.Leem, you can’t install the kernel150 patch because the psp slim doesn’t support 150 kernel, but you CAN play 1.00 kernel homebrew games :D .Here is an example of a game i like:D —> .You can find the update -4 here. You do not need to install the updates one by one, just upgrade to -4 straight. Here is the update link —> .Just place the UPDATE folder in PSP/GAME and run it on your psp…it will fix a few bugs ;) Feel free to ask if you have any doubts :)

  • elle

hi again, playboy. i juz got myself a ceramic white psp slim v3.71 m33 for RM1k!

    this is what i got:
    -console ceramic white v3.72m33
    -few free games.
-software (to be able play downloaded games etc. -says the seller)

It’s japanese version. Havent got myself any theme yet coz ive surf the net seems like there are 2 version of themes, one for official firmware and others is not. Im not sure if it fits. how worst can it get if i wrongly install unsuitable themes for my psp? btw, i got bricked psp warranty for 2weeks. :P

  • elle nice :) Good Deal too.Ok,the themes are very easy to install.I mean the PTF themes. These themes are CREATED by Sony. They released a software allwoing users to make their own themes and use them on 3.70++ firmwares.(Official and Custom). These themes are 100% safe as they do NOT touch flash and chances of bricking is basically 0%.The other one is .rco/prx themes. This require users to flash the theme onto their firmware flash0.This is very risky for normal users especially on 3.71m33.I do NOT recommend this method.(Only for custom firmware psp’s only).elle, check out this site, they have plenty of cool PTF themes. You need to register before downloading them. –> .As you are on custom firmware(slim)you can enjoy 1.00 homebrew but you CAN’T enjoy 1.50 kernel homebrew. This is for Leem as well,1.50 kernel homebrew uses the kXploit method therefor,it comes like this “Homebrew and Homebrew%”.While the 1.00 method is just “Homebrew”with the eboot.pbp in it.This is a very cool homebrew that you should try.It works like a charm on a psp slim. .If you have any questions, feel free to ask,you too Leem….To both of you “Enjoy your new psp’s” :D

  • Also there are newer updates for 3.71m33,the latest being 3.71m33-4. .This update includes update -2 and -3,so you do NOT need to install one by one.Just run this update. It’s mainly for bug fixes and patches…including pops(ps1 emulation).

  • Leem

hey elle, i wander did you bought your psp? with 2 week bricked warranty LOL! that a nice one :D congret~ here the source of my psp game register and enjoy :D

Playboy, i wanna ask some about “ps1 emulation” izzit save for 3.71m33?
    any chance for bricking?
im so scare for bricking off my psp >.

  • Leem

    ops… miss out a word…
hey elle, i wander “where” did you bought your psp?

  • Leem, emulations are perfectly safe, download the ps1 eboots from the site you linked elle (psp iso) and place it in PSP/GAME.

  • Leem,to make you feel better,i’ll exlain a bit about bricking a psp.Bricks would occur when a psp’s flash 0 is messed up.There are two types of flashes on a psp firmware.(Main ones).Flash 0 and Flash 1.Flash 0 is VERY important…..NEVER mess with it unless you have a valid reason and you are 100% sure on what you’re doing, while flash 1 is just the psp settings. If you format flash 1,it will just reset the psp settings….nothing to worry about.Flash 0 will NOT get messed when you play games, emulators, homebrew games,photo….etc.It WILL get messed if you delete files in flash 0.Some homebrew applications like “PSP Filer,Slash N’ Flash,Firmware upgraders, downgraders” all touches flash.Therefor, there is always a chance of a brick when you mess with those.Leem,do not worry as you won’t brick if you follow what i say :)

  • Guys…..please tell me if any of you guys want to sell bricked psp’s for a reasonable price.I really need some for experimenting purposes…..cuti sekolah is coming to the end already… Thanks :)

  • Davien

yoO playboy! i’m actully planning to buy new psp so do you know any information what is the cheapest psp price at Sabah??? i don’t have a lot of money to buy a package of psp soO..i might only but the console first and i will upgraded it from time to time..

  • donkey

hi, im new here.may i know what’s the difference between modified and un modify psp??

  • donkey,i believe you mean hacked psp. Most psp’s sold in Malaysia are hacked before hand,so you do not need to worry about the hacking process. The difference are that the original firmware psp doesn’t have the abililty to run homebrew(made by other psp users who are good at C++),pirated games, install themes(flash)and plenty more.At the moment the good firmwares around are 3.40oe-a(quite outdated though),3.52m33-4 and 3.71m33-4.Feel free to ask if you have any more doubts.

  • Hello there again.I’ve got some news for the psp-homebrew loyals.I’m gonna upload my HTML coding soon.It contains direct download links for a few good homebrew games,Appilcations,Themes as well as updates.I’ll provide the download link once i’m happy with the end result.I’m still coding a little bit more…very simple page though ;)

  • playgirl

hi playboy, really enjoy to read ur explanation. May i know what is the diff between fat PSP and PSP slim? ( in hacking and playing pirate/download game)
I feel weird why fat PSP still can survive in market while PSP slim is selling in about the same price

  • aril_roku

anyway it is 2nd hand set… but the owner said still in good and perfect exterior condition.. any suggestion is most welcome .

  • Playgirl….k.The psp slim is a litte harder to hack seeing that you need either a psp with 1.50 or custom firmware to install custom firmware on a psp slim with an official firmware on it.You do not need to worry though seeing that psp’s in Malaysia usually are sold with custom firmware on it.Hacking wise,i’d go with the fat psp.

1st) Fat psp’s can be downgraded and have plenty of stable custom firmwares.
2nd) Fat psp’s own the infra-red option…..very important in my point of view.
3d) MOST IMPORTANT….Fat psp’s have the 1.50 kernel homebrew option which the slim doesn’t have.

The 150kerrnel homebrew basically allows your system to run about ANY type of homebrew game no matter if it was made for firmware 1.00 or firmware 1.50.Slim’s in the other case, can only run 1.00 kernel homebrew.(There are….but not as much as 1.50 homebrew).Otherwise, the slim is ok… looks sexy, but looks very weak.Looks like a strong wind may snap the psp in two xD.
Piracy wise, both slims and fat’s are ok.

  • aril_roku,i’d say no.The deal you got is decent….but did the owner explain to you the reason he’s selling his psp? If he’s got a valid reason,go ahead and buy it…but if he comes up with lame excuses, that means something is fishy.(usually).aril_roku,if you decide to buy his psp, make sure you make him stay with you for a couple of hours while you test for ANY sort of damage.aril_roku,Just for your information….and brand new fat psp set costs about RM700–RM800 with the latest custom firmware installed on it.3.40oe-a is a excellent firmware but there are plenty of games that require a higher firmware to play.Aril_roku,your money, you decide :) Feel free to ask if you have any doubts in mind.

  • @elle,leem,playboy & others, guys I’ve bought PSP Slim 3 days back in singapore at 397 sing $. It includes PSP Slim black & san disk 4 GB & screen protector. The shop person installed the 3.71 m33-2 firmware.
Thanks for all your comments, it made me get an idea on the firmware and PSP kinda info.At present I am in search for the ISO games to download and play, still I didnt play any game yet :( though i dlded medal of honors 2 its not working.

As we all are PSP fans , how abt sharing our yahoo or other IM IDs ?

Njoy guys and thanks again ……..take care !! :)

  • kool_buddy,we aren’t allowed to share our e-mails,MSN etc for safety reasons.kool_buddy,make sure the game you downloaded in an iso/cso file.Place it in ms0:/ISO folder.Do you have a UMD game? Because as far as i know, the slim iso loader isn’t excellent. If you have one, insert it into your psp….boot to recovery mode and go to Configuration. There you will see plenty of options.Go to the UMD mode option. When you click X,it will switch.IE:Sony NP9660_NO UMD-,M33Driver-NO UMD-,Oe isofs legacy -NO UMD-,Normal-UMD required.Choose the option which says -Normal-UMD required.Once done, hopefully the game would load.If you do not have one,try using the SonyNP9660 loader or the M33 Driver.
This is how you should boot into recovery mode.

Playboy advises:To set your kernel to 1.50,hold the off switch for 6-9 sec.then hold R trigger while switching it on.Now you will be in recovery mode.

    Once done,follow what i typed above…. Enjoy your new psp kool_buddy ;)

  • Liew Cheon Fong, not a problem at all.I’ll help whenever i can ;) thanks for messaging me :)

  • playgirl

thx playboy, i just got a PSP-2000 cfm 3.71, from jb, with 4 GB sony high speed memory stick, headset, screen protector,2 yrs warranty, price = RM880, do u think it is good price?

after a few day i bought, i found problem when playing newly added game (b4 tat still ok) , the screen stated “the game cannot be started (800200148)”, how can i fix tat?

another thing is .. is PSP not good in playing video file? my PSP easily hang and have to take out battery to shut off power when i try to fast forward the video.

  • playgirl

i actually staying n studying in singapore now. ur modified PSP still got warranty? I have asked some game shop, they normally give no or less than half yr warranty and they all selling china PSP (PSP 2006 if i not wrong).

  • playgirl…awesome deal, but most probably your Memory Stick Pro Duo is a fake one,but it doesn’t really matter. That error that you got is a prx error.Do you have a UMD game? (original) If you have one,do the following.

Playboy advises:To go into Recovery Mode, you will have to turn OFF your psp (hold the powerswitch up for 10 seconds). Then hold the R-TRIGGER and while holding it turn your psp ON.

If you did it right, you will be in a black screen with red writings,If you encounter a black screeen, press the brightness button. Now,you’ll see a few options.Go to “Configuration” and go to the UMD mode option.Press “X” and let it keep changing until it says “Normal-UMD required”.

If you do NOT have a UMD,go to the same menu again,go to Configuration, and press X at the UMD mode option until it says M33 Driver OR SONYNP9660.Either of this should work.

Just for the sake of asking,is it a homebrew game,or an iso/cso game that you’re trying to run?

Because if it’s a 1.50 kernel homebrew, you will MOST probably encounter the prx error. And about you’re Video problem,i’m not quite sure.A system reflash would do the job,but to do so,you need to make a Pandora’s Battery which is hard to make seeing that you own a slim psp.Try this anyways…go to “System Settings”/Restore Default Settings. This will reset all the settings back to normal. If it still doesn’t work, bring it back to the shop.. ;)

  • playgirl

hey playboy—i tried ur solution but still cant work (i have no UMD). i brought to the game shop the check, the memory stick was spoilt then they replace a new one and get it fullly downloaded new game for me again (newly bought they offered free download game in the memory stick)

I not sure whether it is fake, but since they really gave a new one, and its speed obviously than normal one (seeing from others customer), i am quite satisfied their service. hehe

erm.. what is prx error, homebrew game actually? so far i only play iso/cso game. i found from website it exist jso file oso, it is described as a file further compressed, taking less space than cso.
but i still havent tried it.

  • playgirl

playboy– forget to thanks for ur time. thx!!

  • That’s lies.Memory Sticks don’t cause the problem.Did the shop guy give you the exact same game in the same format?playgirl,to get maximum iso compatibility, get a UMD.One only.Just for your information, jsc, cso DaX,are all iso compression formats.Iso’s are still better because they are the ORIGINAL dump of the UMD.

  • playgirl

the shop guy 1stly checked the setting by press ‘select’ in the main menu and did something in the recovery mode , then del and download the same game again. when he found the same problem exist, he then gave me a new one and agred to download any game until the memory stick full.

how a UMD get maximum iso compatibility? did u mean tat it will
help to minimise the possibility tat the similar problems occur?

  • playgirl, yes.I’m sure a UMD would work. One UMD is enough.Set the menu in recovery mode (UMD option) to “Normal-UMD required”.I’m afraid to say,but usually shop dealers in Malaysia,SUCK at psp’s….big time.(Not all, there are some good ones :) ).They really do cheat.Common problems=reflashing, iso problems.I met a guy who upgrades from 1.50 –> 3.40oe-a for RM 200.Isn’t that stupid? I suggest you to get a UMD and try it.If it doesn’t work, then it might be the iso problem.Just curious, where did you buy your psp from? Shop: section: Plaza :

    Thanks…..and shop dealers,don’t be mad at me…hehehhehe

  • AoаNooBAng3l |

helo 2008 psp sell how much izzit around rm650?

  • playgirl

play boy– I bought from city square, the shop dealer oso does technician – repair and modifying work. he knows well about psp.

i met another problem.. need ur help again.
i just download some application software eg dictionary. i placed in file PSP\GAME. and open in ‘Game’ menu. they all showed ‘the game could not be started(8002014c)’

do u know hot to solve? thx 1st ya

  • playgirl, first, you need to know wether the application you downloaded is 1.50 kernel applcation or 1.0 kernel application. The slim doesn’t have the ability to run 1.50kernel homebrew..eloader doesn’t help much.I’ll tell you a way to differenciate between a 1.50kernel homebrew and a 1.00kernel homebrew.

Take dictionary as your homebrew name.
    1.50kernel homebrew==”Dictionary/dictionary and dictionary%/eboot.pbp etc
    1.00kernel homebrew==”Dictionary/eboot.pbp.

In the 1.50 kernel homebrew case, you’ll need to place the dictionary and dictionary% in PSP/GAME (DOESN’T WORK WITH SLIMS).

In the 1.00kernel homebrew case, you’ll need to place the folder which the eboot.pbp file is in.Place it in PSP/GAME as well.Works on slims.

  • This is a homebrew that works on psp slim with custom firmware.

    Birdman’s Shooter=

    Place the WHOLE birdman’s shooter 2 in PSP/GAME and it’ll work :D

  • sorry for replying a bit late :p
@playgirl…… I got singapore warranty for my PSP (but i cant say if it still applies even after SHE(shop girl) loaded cfw) ….whatever it doesnt matter much for me as I stay in India and can’t claim the warranty lolz.

I updated to cfw 3.71 m33-4….and abt ur PSP price play girl I guess u got the best price but not the best PSP :( kaula lampur was our first destination in our tour but i had to wait to reach singapore to buy PSP as i had a feeling that malaysia ppl may cheat (which i learnt from this blog itself lol).

whatever, PSP which i bought is arnd $30 USD cheaper than in India….i am happy even though i didnt get the best price bcuz i bought at the last 5 minutes of our trip and didnt had enough time in finding the BEST PRICE shop ;))

@playboy and others……can we get ur yahoo or msn IDs from the psp-hacks website ? I guess u r all the time in that site right ?

btw I dont have a single UMD ….and I am very much happy with the games i have right now and still downloading.

right now I’m playing Syphon filter: Logan shadows and it rocks, struggling in the very last level :(

    Keep commenting.
@playgirl – I bought my PSP in Sim lim square.

  • kool_buddy,we aren’t allowed to exchange e-mails,id’s etc because of several reasons.Keep struggling in Syphon filter hehe

  • mr_elpis

hi..i’m malaysian but now studying in ireland..
the price 4 psp here is quite cheap..
i only paid 235 euro which equivalents to RM1100 for a complete set of psp
    (new slim&lite psp+ 2gb memory stick + 2 free games (fifa 08 & midnite club racer)

  • syahmi

hey guys i think that psp nowadays price is RM600 you know. this price is only at sungei wang. if you go to the ampang park u could get somewhere RM699+. i plan to buy but my father disagree……… i fell very sad :(

  • imlovinit20

mr_elpis, i get psp slim custom 3.71mm33-2 firmware for RM 880 in imbi plaza. Includes 4gb memory stick pro duo, but there’s no UMD games. The shopkeeper only provides downloaded games and put all of them in the memory stick. I guess i have 10 games in my memory stick right now. Kinda cool. I’m downloading the latest ISOs for the games and gona put them in my psp slim soon.

Syahmi: ya, i asked in sungei wang too. RM 600 for psp phat console only. If you includes the memory stick, it will cost you RM 760. There’s another shop in sungei wang that offer RM 580 for psp phat too. You might want to get this psp and get another memory stick for RM 140. (RM 720 in total, you save RM 40).

It’s all depend on your luck whether you can find these shops or not in sungei wang. I dont really mind about the price. But i did a pretty good survey around lowyat, sungei wang and imbi plaza. Dont go to lowyat, the price are fixed and you cant really ask for discount. Same goes to Sungei wang, the tauke really not that friendly at all. It seems like you wont get a great service after you bought the psp from them. I got mine from Imbi Plaza. The guy gave me a great lecture on the psp slim and im proud of having one in my hands now.

Go to and join the channel to discuss/know more about psp. Or maybe you might wanna search in google for the doubts that you all have in mind. I did all the research myself and now im proud that i can play a lot of different types of games in my hacked psp.

I hope those who are looking forward for psps either phat or slim, please do a research a week before you go and buy them. You might wanna compare them both first. For me phat is good coz it allows homebrew games and easier to hack. But the future has come, for me i would choose psp slim coz it’s definitely slimmer, lighter and i dont really rely on homebrew games. I got originial games’ ISO to download so can you all.

Be smart, survey first before you buy one psp. ask around!! :P

    have a nice day everyone~

  • imlovinit, agreed, you guys should research more on psp’s(not from the shop dealer, from the internet) before buying it.I recently went to a mall and there was a shopkeeper who didn’t even know what was custom firmware…you can ask the shopkeepers on games, they’ve got a good idea on it.imlovinit,i bought mine in Sungei Wang hehe and yes some were rude, especially when you leave their shop empty handed haha..For psp’s…i feel Summit and Digital Mall provide good deals.

  • eddemeddy

    need help….
i’m looking for psp slim and lite for my birthday….
any ideas on where to find really cheap psps that comes with a memory card……?
    nway,i’m living in malaysia….
    need help!!!…….please…………..

  • eddemeddy

    and another thing….
how much does the star wars and the daxter package cost…???

  • eddmeddy,a psp fat and slim will cost around RM800–>RM1000 including extra acessories.(Charger,battery,4gb memory stick, games, cover, protection screen).Your psp doesn’t matter is fat or slim should come with a 3.71m33 custom firmware. The update behind it doesn’t matter really,as far as i know, dealers install 3.71m33-2 at the moment using the Ultimate Pandora’s Battery.I’d rather get a psp fat as it has the 150 kernel homebrew function.By having this you can get 100% homebrew copatibility. The psp slim has the ability to play homebrew as well, but only about 40% of it.NO 150 kernel homebrew.
For your information, homebrews are games/emulators/flashes/applications made by other psp users who have mastered the C,C++ programming language.

eddymeddy,if you really want the slim, get it.It’s your choice :) I like the Deep Red psp slim…the new colour.

  • eddemeddy

40% meaning that i can’t play downloaded games is it?
if it is so,that might be a problem…
where do u get ur games?
RM800 is quite expensive for a portable game, don’t ya think?
any possibilities that i can buy them at below RM700?
    nway,thanx alot for ur help…

  • kinwawa

    Hi Playboy

According to your previous post, you recommend us to use 3.71m33-4. If happen that i bought 3.71m33-2, can i upgrade it to 3.71m33-4? Do i have to pay to get it upgraded or i may DIY?

  • eddymeddy, homebrew games are different.UMD games and downloaded ones works on a psp slim.eddymeddy,RM800 is very reasonable.Internet,photo,video,music,3d Games, homebrew, customizable themes etc…it’s more that a portable gaming device :)

  • eddemeddy

i did some browsing for the pricing of psp….
psp + all the accessories are about RM1000+….haha
kinda expensive coz my budget is only RM800…
still,i can get the psp console ONLY for RM750…
what is a must besides getting the console…?
    i mean like memory card,screen protector & other stuff….
    any advice?

  • As i said earlier, eddymeddy all should be included (4gb stick etc etc).RM750 console only=possible. With all the accessories it should cost at least RM900

  • Hey guys,i’ve just made my own site.A free one using HTML and JavaScript.I made one specially for psp homebrew.Check it out and leave a comment :) thanks

  • Von

how much does a PS2 cost in malaysia that is with the chip which allows us to play copied games?

  • lilyallen

playboy, will psp slim able to play homebrew stuffs such as the gba emulator?

  • QQ

Guys help, pls give me some advise.. should i buy original or modified PSP? Which is the best n last for long? Really making me confused.. I hav been survey alot at sony shop n game seller. Wat it mean homebrew, firmware n UMD? I really not good in all this stuffs.. pls give some comment.. If i buy original PSP, will i get to download games easily on internet?

  • lilyallen, sure.I’m assuming you do have a hacked psp in hand.If you have one, proceed and download this. .This is gpSP0.9,it’s the BEST Gba emulator out there. It’s an .rar file, you’ll need WinRAR or any other extracting tools(UnrarX for Mac OS X).Once extracted, you should see three .zip, and gpsp09_src.tar.bz2.Extract the first one ( folder called gpsp09 will appear.Copy the whole folder and paste it in PSP/GAME.Ignore the other zip files, the is for fat psp’s while the other one is the source code of the project.

Feel free to ask if you encounter any problems,

  • QQ,The difference between the SONY original firmware and the custom firmware is that the custom firmware has more features compared to official firmware. It’s the exact same firmware with the ability to play homebrew(Games, emulators, applictions)made by other psp’s users who are good at C and C++(Programming Language).Firmware is the ‘scientific’ psp word for version. If you buy a psp in Malaysia, you will most probably get a psp with custom firmware.3.71m33-2 or maybe even 3.80M33.UMD is the game. It’s the Universal Media Disk. This game costs around RM150.This is the original game. You can download games from several use-net’s but i’m NOT going to provide the links here. You’ll have to find it yourself ;) Keyword is —iso—.

  • Hey guys, please visit my site and leave a “Guestbook” comment please,it’s m very first site so yea…don’t expect much hehe..

  • imlovinit20

    no advertisement please playboy :P
    blek blek

  • hahahaha imlovinit20.. :D

  • @kinwawa, U can upgrade it to 3.71m33-4 just by downloading the update from the dark_alex’s website, u dont need to pay anything.
I got 3.71 m33-2 from the shop and later after a week I upgraded to 3.71m33-4 just by downloading the update and running it on my PSP Slim but mind u, I am not responsible if anything happens lol :p

  • [email protected]

i juz would like to know what is the price for PSP in malaysia now.
im staying here in Dubai and i wonder should i buy the PSP from here or in malaysia. the price here is AED700+ almost the same as RM700 if converted to RM. so please let me know the price there and is it ok for me to buy it from here only? advise please.. thanks..

  • kinwawa don’t worry.Updates are VERY simple and VERY safe.Same goes to kernel patches. These updates take a few seconds only. The chances of a brick is still there as it touches flash but it’s VERY slim.Download the updates from trusted sites ( etc) and place the UPDATE folder in PSP/GAME.

  • Leem

    hi playboy, u still here huh~ u r so helpful :)
    i hav a question here, it’s about the latest 3.80 m33 1.50 Kernel Mod.
    izzit juz for FAT psp?

another thing is the “Custom Firmware 3.80 M33-4 UPDATE” shoudn’t hav a problem updating them into a slim psp rite?

i found this guide in pspiso

Custom Firmware 3.80 M33 has been released

    – Installation requires a PSP with 3.52 M33-3 or higher [fat PSP], or 3.60 m33 or higher [Slim PSP]
    – Battery 78% loaded, – Kernel acces on 3.XX
    – Copy the UPDATE folder into /PSP/GAME/
    – Run it, the update will be done by Sony updater. At the end when you are asked to reboot the
PSP pressing X or O, do it.Do not skip this step shutting down the psp by yourself, or you’ll end with a brick

  • Leem, yes the kernel 150 patch is for fat psp’s only. The code will reject slim psp’s.The 3.80M33-4 update works like a charm on a psp slim.I don’t recommend 3.80m33 yet as it isn’t very stable.Once Dark_AleX is out with newer updates, then you can consider it.And thanks for the compliment hehe

  • kinwawa

Thanks to Playboy & Kool_buddy’s reply.
Bros can you recommend any retailers that has good knowledge in PSP?
I would like to buy from this kind of retailers so that they can help me out face to face. Thanks!
Playboy, i have drop you a msg in yr webpage but still no reply from you.

  • [email protected]

    yo guys..
what is the current price for PSP?
    PSP & PSP Slim..

I think i will buy 1 end of dis month
if the price here not too much diff from msia.

  • kinwawa, send the message at “Guestbook” only then i will receive it.I’m not really surer of good psp retailers but i’m sure you will know if they are good or bad by listening to what they say.

  • [email protected],at the moment, all psp’s are about RM700–RM900.Including the extra acessories,it will cost about RM1000 at most.I prefer the fat psp as it has 150kernel homebrew support.

  • [email protected]

    thanks playboy.
    RM700–RM900 is the console only?
here in Dubai is also around that price.
if together with accessories i dunno how much.
maybe PSP here is from Sony US.
anyhow i will check n probably will buy it end of this month.
i might go for fat PSP also, we’ll see.
    haha.. thanks bro.

  • LF

So, please do sms me at 016 xxxx, if anyone has a “bricked” psp for sale. (“bricked” means the psp can power on but nothing appears on the screen.) thanks!

    [Edit: phone number is censored]

  • Crazx

I just get one today at Digital Mall, PJ
although the price is slightly higher 820, but this guy service is good. is a kiosk at the first floor, the kiosk is at the right hand side, the last kiosk on your back(when u going up the escalator). I think the kiosk name is Brother Game. IF i not mistaken the whole entire 1st floor, that’s the only kiosk selling PSP.
my package is=> the basic package, include with screen protector, psp case protector ( only front), 2 in 1 cable for u to transfer data and charge psp, 4G ultra high speed memory card, give u free game until the memory is at max and a hard case to keep the psp. Well this guy gave me a brief lecture on how to use the PSP too. XD

  • dirra

Guys! I’m new in psp world. Need u guys help.
How to upgrade? Explain in details, plss.
Mine is psp slim 3.71 m33-4.
Noted the latest one is 3.90 m33.

  • Leem

Can a psp(slim) play MSN messanger?
Another thing is about the flashplayer we need for youtube streaming video, izzit possible for psp(slim)?
Beside that, window media player for online songs, izzit possible for psp(slim) too?

Your reply will be highly appreciated =)

  • Leem, there is a homebrew application which is known as “AFKIM”.It’s basically coded to seem like messenger on a psp.I only tested it once, but unfortunately,i don’t find it useful.

Leem, all psp’s(psp slim and psp fat) can’t play flash videos by default. Thanks to homebrew, this is made possible. There is a good player out there known as “PSPTUBE” which has the ability to play high quality PMP videos (way better than psp mp4),stream YouTube videos and so on.

Leem,i believe you’re talking about web portals.Web portals are just plain HTML and JavaScript coded pages which are ported to a psp.It is a complete waste of time to use it as you ALREADY have access to homebrew.Usually, users who own “official firmware” psp’s will install portals. And yes,it is possible for both slim and fat psp’s.If you do have any HTML or JavaScript experience (or any other web coding),you surely will be able to create your own portals.I’ve made my own before, but it isn’t fun as homebrew….trust me.Hope this helps ya’.

  • dirra, yes you are right.3.90m33 is the latest custom firmware (Dark_AleX) for both slim and fat psp’s.The upgrading method is VERY simple but it does have a chance of a brick.Brick in other words means your psp is just as useful as a brick. Can’t boot it on or nothing. If you really do want 3.90M33 (It’s a good firmware),you can ALWAYS try making a Pandora’s Battery on your 3.71m33-4 slim psp.But of course, there is a catch. You will need a fat psp battery(Normal Sony battery) to make the Pandora’s Battery. It can be made on a slim psp as well, but it isn’t recommended. Before you proceed (if you want to upgrade),you should get an extra memory stick (256 would be good(NOT FAKE!!)) and an extra battery (fat battery).Once you get hold of both, you can make a Pandora’s Battery which can be used to unbrick your psp back to 3.71m33-2 if your psp bricks while upgrading from 3.71m33-4–>3.90m33.This process may seem complicated, but once you understand the method, you will feel it’s a piece of cake.

Let me explain a bit about it.A psp boots through flash 0 (internal memory). If any files in your psp is curropted/lost,your psp wouldn’t boot successfully. This is why we don’t advise you to flash anything in flash 0 (recovery mode).

Example–>You are upgrading from 3.71m33-4 to 3.90m33.Suddenly,you switch off your psp,or your battery dies or any crap happens. When this happens, the installer will stop flashing the 3.90m33 files.Therfor, some 3.71m33-4 files would be present as well as a little bit of 3.90m33 files. This in other words is a curropted flash 0 and it will cause the psp to brick.

The Pandora’s Battery boots to the service mode instead of the psp flash 0 (The same way SONY recover bricked psps).Once the user manage to boot into service mode,he/she can then install 1.50 or anything they want. This is frequently used for downgradng/upgrading/reflashing/installing custom firmware and unbricking.

I hope i explained well enough, and i hope you do understand.Feel free to ask if you have got any other questions, don’t be shy….hehehehe.

  • Umm,hey again.I’m sorry if i replied late.I actually am really busy at the moment.School, football training and school homework. My day is fully packed.PMR….this year :D

  • simony2k

PLAYBOY,’re 15 yrs old this year? unbelievable..i thought u’re one of those expert technician XD..anyway,i’ve just read through all ur comments from last year Dec..u’re extremely PRO in these stuff huh..actually i’m planning to buy Psp slim at 1st but after i noe that the diff of kernel i think i might chg my mind.’im from IPOH and the range for Psp value package here is rm799-850..if console oni costs abt rm699..and i believe that the shopkeeper duno wats the firmware they using act i guess ><” but i’ll try my best to figure out..for my case is SAME as others. advices is very much needed on buying a new PSP..actually i’m worrying abt the gadget(PSP) i afraid that it will be like those mobile phones which is fake in the sense of they resell the PSP..lolX..izit rediculous?but neway,i do reallt wish to get a PSP with a resonable price bcoz im using my own money to buy it..i’ve save those $$ for couples of months already…hope PLAYBOY would help ^^…

  • simony2k

anything that need to ask or to know when buying the gadget?? hope PLAYBOY would prepare me a list of questions that nid to ask the shopkeepers…such as wats the firmware they installed and stuff…

    thank you so much!!!!!

  • Leem

thx for the reply playboy :)
here is another Question for u :P
it is a Interactive UMD VIDEO i download juz now from pspiso.

    it said that…
    1. Put iso to ISO/VIDEO folder and press SELECT when you are in XMB.
    2. Now choose the UMD ISO MOUNT and select the idoljanken.iso
    3. Now you can play it in UMD VIDEO in XMB

my question is wat is XMB?
i wanna make sure so i could press the SELECT button on the rite place =X

  • Leem,XMB is the cross-media-bar.This is where ALL the menus are situated.Music,Photo,Games etc…This is where you do all the stuff.Note:If the select button || home button (3.52m33-4),doesn’t work, you’ll need to enable VSH menu in recovery mode/configuration.And also,UMD Video iso’s are bad lol..

  • Mutu

I got a DS Lite Package with r4 cartridge, 1GB micro SD, Games loaded, airform pouch, battery, charger, screen protector for 690RM

    Is it a good buy???

  • Mutu

I can recommend a sho who sells PSP at 700RM with 4GB SD card…3.7 firmware

  • Leem

oh man… i face a big problem here playboy T_T

as i mention on my last post about the UMD Video iso i do wat the instruction ask for, but after i choose the UMD ISO MOUNT from “NONE” to the “idoljanken.iso”(which is the name of the video iso file) my psp reboot it self @@

after reboot my psp become very very lagy >.< have any idea how to solve this problem? or mayb there is a way for me to reset my psp or format it so that i can have my smooth psp back T_T

Status: my leg are shaking :S

  • Leem, nah.Nothing to worry.Try setting the UMD ISO MOUNT to NONE again. If this move fails,(still lags),you can set factory settings which will reformat flash 1.This means all the settings (including recovery menu) settings will be reverted back to normal. You of course can change it back according to your wish.Leem, also,if you DO NEED a video playing homebrew, search for PSPTUBE for slim. It’s in the site.It can play all type of videos incluing PMP.Excellent quality videos.I don’t really like using video iso’s.Waste of time in my opinion.

If you still wish to try out that video iso,you have to place the .iso file in ms0:/ISO/VIDEO.If the “VIDEO” folder isn’t present, create on in CAPITAL LETTERS.Once done,do as you did earlier “Set UMD ISO MOUNT TO –“blah blah.iso””.NOTE::You’ll NEED a UMD in order to do this.ANY UMD’s will do.(including game UMD’s).

I believe you do not have a UMD.It may be the cause of your problem.
    Good Luck mate!

  • Mutu,we aren’t good at Nintendo DS’s…Sorry.

  • simony2K.Mate,I’m REALLY sorry for this late reply.I didn’t realise you asked for help lol.Anyways, there are fake psp’s around, but it is horrible. You’ll know it isn’t a psp the second you look at it.When you buy your psp,(i recommend psp fat (hard to get now)),you should get a memory stick(99% you’ll get a 4gb fake Sony stick),battery, charger, casing and a few iso games(maybe lol).

At the moment, shop dealers usually sell psp’s with 3.90M33 firmware installed on it.It’s an excellent firmware so don’t worry.

Extra information : You can do plenty of stuff on a psp.The one which is most famous to all psp users is homebrew. This are programmes created by other coders who are good at some programming language like C,C++ and so on.( i’m making my own one lol (beginner)).This includes games (shooters, mario etc),applications (psp pda, calculator, painting etc),emulators(GBC,GBA,NES,SNES etc).By using emulators, you can play old games like pokemon silver etc on your psp.

A psp is very useful. It also has internet browsing capabilities.(wi-fi).Photo viewing(jpg, png, tiff, bmp, gif),video (mp4),music(mp3 and wma),games of course (excellent graphics for a handheld system),play multi-player wirelessly with your mates..etc.It’s a fun gadget. You won’t regret buying it.

Here is the bad part (not entirely bad).A psp has it’s life (flash 0).Internal memory. If you curropt it or mess with it,it might brick your psp.Brick==Useless psp.(can’t boot). This at times happens when you upgrade/downgrade/flash rco themes etc.Flash 0 isn’t something to play with (i’m sure you won’t lol),unless you are good at it.Fortunately, there is a Pandora’s Battery which can unbrick your psp. :D :D :D

Feel free to ask if you don’t understand what i just posted. It may seem confusing,REAL confusing, lol…but yea it’s easy.Good Luck :)

  • ah lol simony2k,i’m 15 and yup…preparing for PMR.Plenty of homework so yea….spend less time on computers.I’m also coding my first ever homebrew game :D Again man, sorry for replying late. :D

  • simony2k,another note for you.Don’t worry, the fake version of a psp is known as a ‘POPSTATION’.It’s the worst thing in the world and i’ve never seen it in Malaysia. So,yea, don’t worry :) I also recommend you to get a UMD when buying your psp.

  • Leem

wow~ wat a fast reply palyboy

you are rite, i dont hav any UMD on my hand now. T_T

about the PSPTUBE, does it support RM,RMVB(realmedia) file?

btw, we need a homebrew app. to play wma songs too?

again, thx for the help pal ^^

  • Leem

    is me again :(

oh well… now i download the PSPTube20080216 it seem like it’s the latest one huh, but i dont knonw how to install it ==”

again playboy, im asking for your help lol…

  • Sabata

hey guys….i’m planning to buy a full package of psp slim….i don’t want to end up like my previous purchase…spend rm1000 for my NDS Lite full package….so, is there any specific place that sell psp slim in a reasonable price? RM700-RM800 would lift my budget^^.

  • simony2k

playboy..finally i bought one PSP black for myself..i’ve done the comparison with other shops d and at last i found this shop wakaka…RM790 includes 4gb memory stick, crystal case, pouch and etc. they gimme the latest version 3.90 but i afraid its unstable..few softwares installed such as PSPtube, messenger and skype XD..oh ya…they provide 6 months warranty and gurantee for 14 days…PLAYboy, can u put more links(games) for slim in ur webpage?i wish i can dl from ur site…tQ!!

  • Leem setting cpu speed to 20 rocks hahaha..You do not need a wi-fi connection in order to enable flash player and also wma playback on a custom firmware psp. This can be very easily done in recovery mode.Go to recovery mode/Registry Hacks and boom!.You can activate both the functions and also switch the select buttons (like X and O).

Leem, the PSPTUBE 20080216 by Sofiya Cat is just a simple update. This means it only contains the eboot.pbp file. You’ll need to download the actual copy of PSPTUBE,then place the eboot.pbp file (that you downloaded in it).It should overwrite and you’re ready to go.

  • simony2k,ah cool.Welcome to the world of psp’s :D I haven’t got enough time to edit my site so yea :( .I’ll give you a good site though.Enjoy!

    3.90M33 is stable.

  • Blank

Wow, seems like you seem to be a veteran in tweaking PSP’s already, Playboy…

So, do you mind if i ask some questions?

I have yet to get a PSP, after reading around the comments, and walking around shopping complexes for the prices, i noticed that a slim PSP costs around 780++.
Which would mean that it’s probably a fake 4gb mem card right?
    The questions come in here…

1- So, is there any difference with the real and fake mem. card?
2- The PSP, probably (modded) will be able to run homebrew applications instantly after purchase? (the emulators, or are there any other requirements?)
3- Since the latest firmware is best, (it would probably come with it) do i still need to degrade it to 1.5 and re-upgrade it in order to play ISO PSX files? I’ve read that you need the 1.5 kernell or smth…
4- As for UMD discs, is it packed with the consoles all of you guys bought? Why would we still need UMD’s if we can use the mem. card?
5- Also, do I have to take note of anything or what to get when getting a PSP…

Sorry about the long questions and stuff. Got abit headache researching abt PSP when new terms keep poping up one after another <.<
    Thanks in advance.

  • Blank, yes. There is a difference between a fake and an original stick, but it’s not very noticable though.Fake cards CAN cause errors during flashing process (upgrading/downgrading etc).Fake cards are also a little slower than an original stick.

If your psp is a psp slim, nope, you will not need any additional stuff. There is some good news for slim users,Time Machine is out (BETA).It allows slim users to enjoy 1.50 kernel homebrew as well. There are two types of homebrew.

    1=Normal 1.00 firmware homebrew.
    2=kXploited 1.50 firmware homebrew.

Fat psp’s with custom firmware installed on it can enjoy 1.50 homebrew (most of the homebrew).Slim psp’s however can’t do it unless you install TimeMachine…pain in the ass.Slims can play 1.00 homebrew though :)

3.90M33 is the latest firmware. You don’t need to install the 1.50 kernel patch (fat psp only) in order to load iso’s or ps1 eboots.ALL iso’s/cso’s work on 3.90M33 at the moment.

Depends, some shop dealers provide buyers with a free UMD.Getting a UMD is actually good as it can allow MAXIMUM iso compatibility for slim users.

    I actually recommend you to get a fat psp,it’s a bit better in some ways.Up to you though.Getting a slim isn’t a problem…just my choice :)

  • Just to make you happier,i’ll explain more about the MIGHTY homebrew lol.

Homebrew are programs (game/applications/emulators) which are made by other psp users better known as coders or developers. They are good at programming languages like lua,C or C++.They code these homebrew, compile it (psp toolchain),then release it.

There are homebrews out there which has the ability to watch YouTube Videos,Read pdf’s (ebooks),create notepad files, listen to music, watch videos, draw or scribble, play flash games, emulate Gbc,Gba,Nes,Snes,Gb,ps1/psx,sega genesis,N64 and many other consoles and so on..
Emulation means you can play the above consoles ^^ games on your psp.Very useful.Homebrew is VERY fun.If you do have any coding experience, tell me and i’ll help you code homebrew for your psp.Not easy lol…Ok…back to school homework :D ..

  • Blank

Thanks again for clarifying and helping things out. It really helped me alot, now i have a fair idea of the stuff.

As for coding a own homebrew, i guess i’m still far from ready, although i am currently studying about it… Maybe in a few years time. Haha.

  • Sabata

i found this awesome site! It’s a tutorial how to create a Pandora Battery and Slim memory stick without PSP Phat^^….check this out

  • haha blank. If you really are interested in coding homebrew, learn the C programming language.I feel it’s best for coding homebrew.I’m using C for all my codes.

  • Sabata,ah…you got it wrong. That method is done by hardmodding. It can be done on all sony psp batteries. However, that method is VERY dangerous and it’s not at all recommended for newbies as it can result in injuries ( battery overheating ).I think it’s best not to try it…unless you are good at soldering and stuff.

  • Leem

hmm… does anyone here have a pmp converter?
such as apex or videora or maybe you guys have a better one?

spent hours searching online but still… no result T_T

  • Sabata

i can’t try it cause i haven’t own a psp yet….>.<! Still searching from shop to shop for the best deal….n get the real stuff(Not Fake Memory or PSP!) Wow playboy…u only 15years old already learn programming?I’m learning it now…currently taking Foundation in Science^^ leading to Networking and Communication….

  • sniper_cr3w
  • Sabata, nice.Programming is really fun.I know HTML,JavaScript,C,a little bit of C++,AppleScript and Unix.

  • Sabata

    wow u much pro….i learn only Visual C, C++, C#, N now currently learning HTML n Java Script…

  • Leem

thx for the converter but it’s not working for me :(

i convert the video then drag it into memorystick and open it with “3.80_m33_PMP Player Advance”. It shows the file but the length of time is 00.00.00. wierd…

another thing is about the aspect ratio, seems like it is fix for 4:3.
i change it to 16:9 but still the output show me 4:3 format ==”

  • hey playboy,Leem …..others …. how r u ppl doing ? remember me playboy!

It’s good to know more about you I mean the other things u know.
These all what i wanted to know that’s why i asked u for ur email ID, as I like making online frnds all arnd.

Even I am familiar with the languages u’ve mentioned I would like to know more about how to program applications for PSP using C (I learnt this 3 yrs back just need a brush up lol)

  • kool_buddy,ok cool.Firstly do you have Windows,Mac OS X ( mine :D ) or Linux. The installation are ALMOST the same.Once you install psptoolchain on it,you can compile it accordingly.1.50 kernel=kXploit,1.00 normal make.Coding psp homebrew is quite hard but there are plenty of tutorials around.Just google “Installing psptoolchain on “windows/mac os x/linux”.This requires you to have some UNIX knowledge. Basic change directory, make directory and so on.

AND YES!!!! I REMEMBER YOU!!!!!! hehehe

  • Cyw

    hi!guys…thinking will get 1 psp slim….
but what is the price for now…(in klang)

  • giraffe

    hi guys …

I am newbies in PSP (after it had been popular for sometime) … would like to ask, any shop around subang or sunway that offer PSP for RM700++ ? Is it same price for all kind of color? What’s the recommended package that i can bargain with the shop owner?

    Thanks in advance :)

  • I buy the first generation of psp. Cost me Rm1700. Look at the price now !! So…..for xbox360 and ps3 , I will wait for another few month before buy it.

  • Nindoz

I have this problem.i used to have 3.40OE-A’ and i’ve just updated to the latest one,3.90M33-2.i’ve also added both versions of kernel for 3.90.the problem is that half of my saved games (in a 4gb memory stick) doesn’t work anymore.either say 800200148 problem or just a black screen.any suggestions??

  • QQ,As far as i know, many dealers in Klang Valley sell psp’s (slim and fat) with the recent 3.90M33 firmware and some even sell psp’s with 3.71M33.To be honest, being on different custom firmwares isn’t a problem at all unless you have a UMD game which requires a higher firmware to run. (3.71M33 runs ALL UMDS now.)

QQ,just browse around and you might find a dealer that suits your taste.Plenty in KL and stuff..

  • Cyw,most probably RM 1000 with all accesories. This includes battery pack, charger, casing, protective lens type of plastic, several games, some UMD’s if you’re lucky and a 4gb memory stick (most probably fake). You can obtain the original sony memory stick pro duo (4gb) at an official Sony store.

  • QQ

Thx again Playboy, I will try my best to find a dealer tht suits me.

  • QQ, problem :) Have a good time and welcome to the psp world!!

  • Zerozim

hello guy…. i want to know how much the psp price now.. becaus ei want to buy the psp slim and does psp slim got pirate game???? because im new here….

  • Sabata

hey QQ, u live at Klang? I’m from KU….^^

  • Zerozim,as i’ve mentioned in earlier posts,a psp set with custom firmware installed in it(no matter slim or fat) should cost about RM1000 at most.(Including extra accessories-Battery pack,charger,4gb fake memory stick and so on).

Yes,a psp with custom firmware installed on it DOES have the ability to run iso’s,cso’s and so on.(iso’s and cso’s are dumps of a UMD.(pirate game)).

Custom firmware == a hacked official firmware. An official firmware psp is like 1.50,2.00,2.50,2.71,3.30,3.40,3.50,3.70,3.80,3.90 and so on.Custom firmware is the exact same firmware but with more features like ability to play homebrew (own coded games),iso (pirated games) and so on.

Custom firmware == 2.71se-c,3.03oe-c,3.10oe-a,3.30oe-a,3.40oe-a,3.51m33,3.52m33,3.71m33,3.80m33,3.90m33.All these firmwares can play pirated games.

  • Nindoz,as far as i know, that’s a prx error. An iso game has nothing to do with the kernel set on the custom firmware. That error occurs because when you upgrade/downgrade,the psp will automatically reset/restore default settings. This settings can be easily changed in recovery mode or even the VSH menu (select button in XMB(main menu)).

Once you get to recovery mode/VSH menu, change the UMD mode option from the existing to M33 Driver.Your games should now work as usual.

  • marif,around RM1000 at most.

girraffe, sure…just browse around and you should find a good deal.
    RM1000 at most…..remember.

  • Cyw

    thanks playboy…

  • @PBoy hmmm yea playboy I do have a knowledge of UNIX it was a subject for us in our course even though i didnt use UNIX at my home personally I used it in our LABS.
I am very much aware about the commands used in the UNIX SHELL .
I still want to talk to u on IMs lol ……anyways will try to get u on ur site psp-hacks ;)

  • Cyw,no problem man..

kool_buddy ah cool.Since you do have knowledge on it,procceed and install psptoolchain..

    ah,sure man ;)

  • Cyw

hi ..guys..yesterday i try to seacrh the lelong .com and i found some interesting offer…Rm799 with 4g memory, psp slim console, ac power CORD, Ac adtaptor ,crystal case and earphone….
    is it a good deal….
is that the price around that….
    thanks in advise….
and i wanna ask is the fat psp can browsing internet too….

  • Cwy,it seems like a pretty good deal, but mind…the memory stick and the earphone sets are MOST PROBABLY fake ones.It doesn’t cause any troubles though..All psp’s (fat and slim) above 1.52 firmware has the internet browsing feature,RSS feed and so on.If you want a good portable surfing device,i’m sorry to say,the psp internet isn’t that good.Better get a PDA for web surfing.

  • Cyw

    thanks for advice…..

  • Cyw

just get my PSP slim yesterday….
    cant wait it…
btw…any site can give clues that how to play the games?
hehe…coz i am facing some problem that cant get through the games…

  • Zerozim

hello guy… yesterday i saw psp at tesco extra (ipoh) the price is only RM739 include ac adaptor battery charge and battery. The salesman said that that can play pirate game and if u want to buy only RM4.00….. and thank playboy for ur advice…. :)

  • sniper_cr3w

one of the best games guide ….

  • Cyw,what games do you mean? If iso/cso games, just place it in the ISO folder and then run it.If it doesn’t run,hit the select button at the main menu of your psp and set UMD mode to M33 Driver then try the game.

  • Zerozim,it’s actually kinda stupid to BUY pirated games when you can download them for free.I however, won’t provide any links for pirated games, use your google skills and search for them ans STOP buying them lol..

  • Zerozim

    ok… and thank playboy……… :)

  • Zerozim,you sure are welcome :)

Umm,I’ve asked this before but let me ask again..if anyone of you’ll know where i can get a bricked psp, please inform me.I really want to complete my “experiment” before my PMR examinations…Thanks

  • alice

Hi, i would like to buy a psp slim for my son, How much is d price & the specs?

  • Hey there alice.Ok firstly,a psp slim with all the accessories should cost about RM1000.Anything more than RM1000 (unless you buy UMD’s or any other additional stuff) isn’t a good price. The color of the psp doesn’t matter.Dealers at times tend to cheat buyers by saying this color is special edition and stuff like that lol.Don’t fall for that.Secondly, your psp will have custom firmware installed on it (either 3.71m33 or 3.80m33 or maybe even the latest 3.90M33).It doesn’t matter really as long as you have custom firmware on your psp slim. You can play pirated games which can be downloaded for free ( in iso,cso image format),listen to mp3 and wma music, connect your psp slim to TV (output),watch mp4 videos (best converted directly from a DVD),view photos (bmp, jpg, tiff, gif, png etc formats supported),play homebrew (emulators, applications and games )coded by other users who are good at programming in C,Lua,C++ and so on,surf the internet via a wi-fi connection and MANY other features. The psp is the best handheld gaming/electronic device..need i say more? Feel free to ask if you have any doubts ;)

  • Sabata

hey Playboy is that true psp can play some of the ‘PS3 GAMES’?! Or it only act as a joystick/controller for ps3?

  • Cyw

hi~! playboy…is there any different between those version…
mine is 3.71m33…and my friend is 3.81m33…

  • Sabata, that news is totally false.Yes,it acts as a controller ONLY.This feature is included in official and custom firmware psp’s.It’s known as “Remote Play”

  • Hey Cyw.I believe your friend’s psp has 3.80M33 installed on it,not 3.81M33.Not much difference at all.Only thing is that 3.80M33 can play the UMD’s which require above 3.71 firmwares. It’s not a problem at all as 3.71m33 plays ALL the games out there so yea, nothing to worry.Your psp is just as good as your friend’s one ;)

  • simony2k

QQ, really sorry for late reply coz recently i was busy with all my assignments and exam..umm..i’m from ipoh and i bought my psp slim in one shopping complex called YIK FOONG..its actually sumthing like low yat plaza but i noe the shopkeeper hehe..and i recommended all my frens to buy from that shop “BOOMER”..all my frens influenced by me haha to get a psp for themselves..the shopkeeper also aso happy that i brought in so many customers for him…^^ too bad no comission :P

  • haha pity you lol..Good friend you are :) Ok mate, since you know the shopkeeper well, can you ask him if he has any bricked psp’s with him that he wants to sell?

  • Dununderstand

mind if i ask. What exactly is pandora battery?and the uses?

  • whatever

On October 2, 2005, an alternative downgrader was released. The “downgrader” was actually a trojan that, if run on PSP, destroys the firmware and BIOS, resulting in the PSP becoming un-bootable. This was officially reported by Symantec as Trojan.PSPBrick. After the release, many PSP homebrew sites came to a screeching halt to check every bit of homebrew for the trojan, to ensure safety for their users

  • dununderstand

why do people need to downgrade?
can the firmware 3.90 M33 play ps one game?

  • Ryan

Hey guys bumped into this site while I was looking for PSP Price. Seems like there’s a updated info about the price, you all can see it

Hope it can help you all

  • KTJ

Hi playboy, what if i buy the psp outside of malaysia, would it be included with the firmware so i can play pirated/downloaded games and do all the stuff u mentioned. Really appreciate for the help

  • zoobank_93

wats the latest price for psp[cheapest of course]for just the console, batery, batery charger, and a 2gb memory stick?

  • Hey Dununderstand.I’ll explain about the Pandora’s Battery and i’ll try making it as simple as possible.A psp will boot from the flash 0.It’s the internal psp memory of the firmware which couldn’t be accessed with official SONY psp firmwares. However, with the existence of custom firmware (custom firmware= Official Firmware + 1.50 firmware),users do have the ability to access flash 0.These may seem useful for users who prefer a different XMB menu.If you mess with flash 0 without knowing anything about it,most probably you’ll end up with a curropted flash 0 which in other words means,semi-brick.Semi-brick can be recovered by reflashing in recovery mode.If it’s curropted real bad, you’ll get a full-bricked psp.(Cannot be booted). This can happen in official firmware upgrades as well.(Upgding/downgrading etc). Here is where the Pandora’s Battery plays it’s part.Once you’ve inserted the Pandora’s Battery and the Magic Memory Stick, your psp will boot into service mode instead of the normal flash 0.This would allow you to unbrick your psp by installing firmwares in service mode. This method is very useful as it can recover most bricks, downgrade and a very safe way to upgrade to a higher custom firmware.

    Dununderstand,hopefully you’ll understand

  • dununderstand, people downgrade to enjoy custom firmware, homebrew and many other features which are present in custom firmwares.

  • KTJ,most probably no.In Asia, there is a high chance of a custom-firmware ready psp.But elsewhere,99% no.You’ll get a psp with official firmware installed on it.In other words, that means you can’t play pirated games on it.You’ll need to downgrade (Fat psp) or make a Pandora’s Battery to install custom firmware (Slim and fat) to play iso (UMD images) games.

  • zoobank,rm800-rm1000.Everything that you mentioned will be included alongside a 4gb memory stick..fake one.

  • WISHTOUNDERSTAND a.k.a TING,haha hey again. You understand what i exlained to ya’ ? and lol thanks for the kind words hehe

  • simony2k

playboy..ok i’ll help you ask when i go to that shop…umm can i ask anyone of you here do me a favour??for u guys information PIKOM pc fair is coming soon in KL so i was thinking to work as part timer during that 3 days pc fair..anyone of you here help me ask for the job?? =) one of my fren bought PSP slim(mint green) from S’pore..price roughly RM840 converted to RM.firmware given was 3.80 then package included two headphones(one of it is SONY)damn nice the sound quality..then,psp sticker, usb cable, pouch, hard case, screen protector,handstrap,4GB stick, one set of button kit(which i want)…gosh!!

  • KTJ

simon2k, can you ask your fren which shop does he/she gets psp slim from singapore. I live in JB, so i think maybe i will go there to get it to ^__^ Or anybody knows where can i find good price for psp slim in JB (without getting cheated??) Thanks…

  • KTJ

Playboy…thanks for your answer….i have a felling that you are a born genius from all your answer given to us ^__^….THANKS….

  • lol KTJ,haha..thanks for those kind words.I sure will continue helping you guys out ;)

  • Zerozim

hi i need help, my friend psp cant play pirate game because he upgrade his psp to 3.80 firmware to 3.90 firmware. how to downgrade 3.90 to 3.90M33 version because I dont have pandora battery!!

  • PSPManiac

Hi…want to check out wat is the latest price for

    1) PSP
    2) PSP Slim

    and their package contents…

seen most of the places at klang valley…seems more than rm700…

  • Zerozim,ok.First of all, what really is your friend’s psp firmware?
3.80M33? If you do not explain your problem properly,it’s near impossible for me to even understand your problem what more solving it? Please explain properly.

  • Hey there KTJ.I’ll answer your question here instead of making a Guestbook comment on my site so that others can view and also learn from the answer.

Yes,what you searched on the internet is true. The psp slim has a larger flash 0 compared to the fat psp (not that it matters anyway lol),runs UMD games faster, faster internet browsing experience and also a few new slim ONLY applications like Skype. It also has a larger ram and of course, the main addition,TV OUT.Peformance wise,it’s better than the fat psp,but to be honest,i don’t see the difference.A fat psp is actually better homebrew wise as it can run ALL homebrew while slims can’t run the 1.50 kernel homebrew.

KTJ,it doesn’t matter what firmware your psp is on,as long as it’s custom firmware.
    3.71M33,3.80M33,3.90M33 are all good.

  • ktj

Hi Playboy, according to your opinion, is it possible in the future someone will be able to create a patch so that slim can run 1.50 kernel hombrew???

  • Zerozim

my friend psp firmware is 3.80

  • KTJ,well it’s already in the making.TimeMachine is a pretty good development by the great Dark_AleX (The guy who made custom firmwares (OE,SE and M33 firmwares)).So you might find yourself with a 1.50 kernel capable psp slim in the future.

  • Umm Zerozim. You don’t make any sense…Your friend HAD 3.80 and the he upgraded to 3.90 and now he can’t play his pirated games….?

First of all, pirated games can’t be played on any official firmwares unless you use additional stuff (Only for some firmwares.) If that’s not what you mean, try stating the whole problem again…this time clearly.

  • Egg

is all slim psp can play downloaded games?
wat is the differences psp buy from sony center n the shops outside?

  • KTJ

Hi playboy, just bought psp slim, i believe the cfw is 3.80-m33-5. piano black, 4gb, original batt and charger, screen protector, transparent hard case for rm780. The only thing is they dont give warranty, so they say don`t simply download games or your set will bricked.

need your help on this, since i tend to get bored eassily on games, so i would like to download some other game from the net without worries. Any advice????

  • KTJ,well that’s a VERY VERY good example of dealers who lie.Downloading games can NEVER get your psp set to brick. To be honest,i think that the dealer is using that as an excuse to make you go to the shop and BUY the games….very clever indeed. lol

KTJ,i won’t provide you with the link, but use your google skills and you sure will get a good site.Just google for iso games.

  • Simple as this Egg,you buy a psp fro, the SONY store, you’ll get an Official Firmware psp which can’t play pirated games unless you use a Pandora’s Battery or use downgrading methods to hack it.

Buy from a normal game shop, you’ll get a psp with custom firmware ready on it and pirated games.

Psp slim with custom firmware (3.60M33,3.71M33,3.80M33,3.90M33,3.93M33)can play pirated games.

  • Egg

    thanks, playboy…

  • Egg,no problem mate.

  • pop

    hye there,just want to ask…
what is diff. btween psp lite n d fat one??
bcoz i going to get one…:)

  • Cyw

why my psp will hang sometimes…is there any problem here….is it not enough space for it…or is too many games inside…

  • Cyw,be more specific. When does is hang, during gameplay or in the XMB?

  • Cyw

    yup..during playing games…..why ar?

  • KTJ

i also experience it, in the middle of playing manhunt2, suddenly it hang and turn off. Then i try to play again, and it hang again at the same point during gameplay…

  • Cyw,if you mean it hangs when the game is loading, you do not have the UMD mode set right.

    KTJ,see above.If that’s not your case,it might be a bad iso.

Liew CF,i got a question. Is piracy related discussions allowed here?

  • LcF

@Playboy: piracy related discussion is not allowed here.

  • KTJ

Thanks playboy, i think i know what the problem now… Keep up the good work, u been very nice by helping us all here…:)

  • KTJ,Ah nice,thanks for those nice words.

@ LcF,ok,thanks for clearning it up to me :)

  • Cyw

    what is the UMD ?
    so what should i do…..?
just certain hang in some games….not all of them….
    thanks for advice…

  • Cyw,as i LcF just informed, piracy related chat is NOT allowed here.Therefor, please consult your dealer and explain the problem.I’m sure he will know. It’s just the UMD mode.

  • Josephine

Today is 3 of april, the price for PSP slim is droping like gravity.the Price for PSP slim standard 4GB modded Package is only RM780 in selangor.i recomend yall to buy it at summit usj. u will get thr best servis there.

  • haiseong

    Hi All,

May I know anyone here can help me to upgrade psp slim firmware from ori 3.90 to 3.90M33? i understand it must use pandora battery which i have no idea.

If anyone in Penang willingly to help me, i’ll pay RM20. Thanks.
Email me: leonall_ong at yahoo dot com

  • Sabata

u mean Summit Pyramid izzit, Josephine?

  • Egg

jus bought new slim psp include a 4gb memory card for rm760…
can introduce me any games that is nice???
    wat is ptf theme?

  • canice

i just bought a psp fat version. got a couple of questions,

1)recently i have heard that there is a psp version which is a factory refurbish aka rekon version. how i know which is the real thing between 2 psp?
2)my psp is a 3.80. i heard from my friend that any new umd games will auto update the set to it pre set firm ware. i dont want this to happen. how can i avoid it?

  • Egg,pretty good price.God of war is an awesome game, same goes to Patapon.

As for PTF themes,it’s actually a pretty long story. The SONY official firmwares do NOT allow users to access their psp internal memory known as flash 0.This was actually a good thing as messing with it CAN cause full bricks.Then,Dark_AleX allowed flash 0 accessibilty in custom firmwares. This started the XMB modifications. Many people semi-bricked and full-bricked their psp’s during the process (n00bs) usually.Pretty simple process though. In the recent 3.71 firmware,SONY decided that it’s better to just introduce PTF themes to make official firmware users happy. It’s basically a theme which is installed from the memory stick meaning NO BRICKS!!.But the bad thing is that,PTF themes aren’t as good as flash ones.

  • Egg

    thanks playboy…
    i think i got wat u trying to say…

  • Egg,theme makers have used that opportunity to make awesome PTF themes.Just google PTF themes and check the results.Plenty of them.

  • haiseong, first of all,why do you have to depend on others and face paying money for a free service?

Making a Pandora’s Battery is very simple.First get a psp with either 1.50 or custom firmware(any M33/OE/SE/LE firmware extention) installed on it.Then get an original memory stick (256MB is enough) and also and extra battery. This of course involves you paying for the items you purchased, but it’s way better than paying someone for a freeware.Once you’ve got the items i mentioned, come here and inform me.I’ll then give you an excellent guide made by my friend (psp-hacks guy) which will help you make a Pandora’s Battery,Don’t’s n00b friendly.

I’m willing to do it for free for you,but first of all,i’m in Selangor and also,i’m a student…no way for me to get to Penang.

  • canice, firstly i need to know if your firmware is 3.80 official firmware,or 3.80M33 (custom firmware). If it’s official firmware, yes once you insert a UMD which requires a higher version two play,it will update to the following firmware ONLY if you agree. It won’t do so automatically. If you’re on custom firmware,UMD updates are not a problem at all as upgrading to an official firmware from a custom firmware will only produce an error message saying (DADADA) which means Dark_AleX as a warning that you’re doing something stupid lol.Just to make it clear,a psp wouldn’t automatically update the firmware,it will only do so if you MAKE it do so.

So don’t worry bro.If you have custom firmware, download homebrew and play it :)

  • Hey again.I’m fifteen today and i’ve decided to announce about my game which i’m still developing. It’s called Playboy’s Shooter and it’s a simple 2d game which i created for the psp.Planning to release it mid-May,so check it out once released! :D
I coded the game in C (Programming language) and i did it all myself :D

  • canice

Thanks playboy, million thanks, mine is 3.80m33 by the way…. now i am rest assured… now i got one less worries… hope some one out there can help me with info on how to indentify recon set…. am worried mine is one….

  • canice, again don’t worry.A fake psp is very easy to spot.In fact, one would have to be REALLY stupid to be fooled by it..Trust me.A fake psp doesn’t even LOOK like a psp..It’s really light, ugly, can’t play psp games (Only 4 worse than gameboy games) and no other options.Just that.Doesn’t even have a menu lol.

  • Egg

    erm… playboy…
    wat is pandora battery???
wat is the difference between pandora battery and normal battery???

  • Egg,a Pandora’s Battery is actually a normal psp battery that you get when you buy your psp.You can make a Pandora’s Battery by running the Battery Creator program on a homebrew capable psp(1.00/1.50/Custom Firmware).Once done, run the files required for the making of the Magic Stick.(Normal memory stick). This is actually the older method of making a Pandora’s Battery. The newer one is way easier, and better.

    U.P.M.S (Ultimate Pandora’s Memory Stick).
Run this on a custom firmware psp, select the options you want, done!

Pandora’s Battery is used to boot the psp into service mode instead of the usual flash 0.This means it would still boot the psp into the Pandora’s Menu even if your flash 0 is curropted (Brick). This is actually how sony unbrick consoles sent to them. This can also be used to install custom firmware on all psps.(Slim and fat).

  • Parkdude

    Hi Playboy, Happy belated birthday…..
where r u staying… eager to meet u n get more advise directly, if possible to accompany me in buying a PSP then..

  • Egg

    erm… kind of blur…
    a homebrew capable psp???
    wat is time machine???

  • Egg

    one more thing…
after i download a PTF theme, where should i placed it?

  • Egg,a homebrew capable psp means it’s a hacked psp (with either 1.00,1.50 or custom firmware). This means it has the ability to run games which are coded by developers using programming languages.Mine–> Playboy’s SHooter (Still making ) :)

TimeMachine. It’s not really nessecary for you guys as it’s used to load older firmwares using a Pandora’s Battery. It’s used by developers who wish to test their code on different firmwares. For slim users, you can boot to a modified 1.50 firmware,3.40 custom firmware and a few other firmwares. It’s good, but i don’t recommend it for beginners.

  • Egg,place the .PTF file(s),in PSP/THEME.If that folder is not present,create it and make sure it’s in uppercase.(Capital letters).Folder name= THEME

    Then on your XMB,theme,choose it.

  • Egg

    thanks a lotsssssssss, playboy…

  • Egg

i put the ptf file on the place u said but i cant find it when i wan to change it…

  • Eh? What do you mean.Just copy the .PTF file and pase it in PSP/THEME.Then go to Settings > Theme and select the PTF theme. :) Good Luck

  • afif

hi…erm…would like to ask anyone (especially playboy)…

erm, is it compulsory to get an UMD (original or download one???) for each psp package? i would like to buy one…but most of the shop just put the free games in memory stick,,,and the original UMD cost RM 1++ !!!

so, why we nedd UMD since we already can put the game in memory stick?

haa…another queations…is it the slim psp rite now have 1.5 kernel homebrew also? its hard to find the fat psp rite now…and what the latest custom firmware now?

  • Egg

my current firmware is 3.71 m33-2, the ptf theme in this web -> required firmware 3.90m33, is it means that i hav to upgrate my firmware…
will my psp get bricks when i make some mistakes during upgrading the firmware???

  • arepeace

hi…i jsut bought PSP slim n lite, full packkage for RM870…is it that reasonable price?
Ive got a console, battery, charger, usb cable, screen protector, 4gb hi-speed memory stick, clear plastic case, psp pouch, earphone with remote controller, 10 free games, and lastly, one year warranty + free update/games for one year (he said that i can take all the game in their PC for free (about 400 games-just bring my harddisk there :))…if im not mistaken, my firmware is 3.9 (but the shopkeeper said that 3.7 is almost suite for all type of games…is it true?)…and im not sure if my psp can play any application (emulators etc…)…comment please…

  • Egg,i don’t advise you to upgrade your psp just for a PTF theme.Yes,if you’re unlucky, you might brick your psp. There are PLENTY of PTF themes for 3.71 firmwares.Egg,go to that very same site (consolespots) and hit the XMB link above. Then view the older pages, and you’ll find it.

  • Egg

    thanks for your advise…

  • Egg,No problem.I’m here to help :)

  • been

Hi Playboy.. i went to Sg Wang on the weekend and one of the seller there mentioned that there are 2 kinds of modified PSP console. One is ‘hardware modified’ and the other one ‘software modified’. The ‘software modified’ version is more expensive than the other. Is this true? If yes, how do i tell the difference (to prevent being short-changed)? Are there any adverse implications in terms of future software upgrades in both versions?

Alternatively, can i buy a original PSP console and install the custom firmware myself? Thx.

  • been

arepeace.. where did you buy your PSP package from?

  • apreace,if you firmware has the M33 extention in it,you can play emulators and homebrews.

  • afif,it’s not required to have a UMD on custom firmware in order to load games off the memory stick.3.52m33-4 firmwares and above have 99% game loading compatibility. So a UMD disc isn’t really needed. The psp slim doesn’t have the 1.50 kernel on it yet…unless you count Dark_AleX’s latest development…TimeMachine. It can load the 1.50 modified version, but i don’t really like it.As for fat psp’s,you can find it in Plaza Masalam Shah Alam. They still have it there.

  • been i don’t really get what you mean by software and hardware modded psps.A software modded psp means it’s firmware is hacked (Custom firmware installed).A hardware modded psp means it might have some hardware modifications like LEDs and some other crap stuff.Your idea is an official firmware psp and hack it yourself. That’s possible,if you have access to a psp with either 1.50 or custom firmware already. If no,then it’s better off to just get a custom firmware psp ;)

  • Parkdude,i’d love to do so..but i’m just 15 and i’m dead sure my parents wouldn’t allow me to go out with a stranger..looking at the condition of the country.Parkdude,i’m sorry mate,i can help you here with your psp but going to shop with you,no i can’t. ;)

  • arepeace

been… i bought it from a shop in Digital Mall, Seksyen 14 PJ…
there was a shop on 1st floor (Brothers Game Enterprise if im not mistaken)

    go and check it out…

  • been

Thanks arepeace.. will definitely check that place out.

  • been

Thanks Playboy.. the shop owner at Sg Wang informed that the consoles will be opened and physical modification will be performed on the CPU for the hardware modified psps… he further adds that future upgrades are near impossible or very difficult..hence the cheaper price. honestly i think the seller is trying to pull a fast one on me.

by the way.. keep up the good work.. its mind blowing how much you know about this stuff *salute*

  • been, lol. He really seems to be lying his ass off.Just get a normal psp slim or fat with custom firmware installed on it and enjoy!
Thx for those kind words :)

Also,The shop that arepeace recommended is pretty good.My brother got one from there.

  • arepeace

    yupz playboy… i think so..the seller quite friendly too…
oh, one more…is there any gameshark or somethng like that for psp?
hehe…like to play with a cheat codes…especially when im play racing games….

huh…my next target…maybe PS3…haha…juz need to wait 1 or 2 year to get a ‘reasonable’ price…the price is still killer rite now, especially for a student…

  • arepeace

hey anyone…can we discuss about psp games here?
juz wanna know, can u recommend me the best psp games have u played?
especially racing (NFS etc), rpg (Silent Hill, FF etc) or strategy (Warcraft, sims etc) games…got some prob to find the best one…haha…

i juz play NFS carbon n Pro Street…but its not very good as the one that i played in PC…

  • been, that’s a pretty obvious lie by that shop owner.Sony underclocked the CPU on purpose and it can only be altered by a UMD game. You can set the CPU speed in your code.Example : Your XMB (Menu) speed is default, the game requires 333 to run well so the minute you run the game, the CPU speed will be changed according to the code. You’ll understand more if you’re into psp programming. There’s NO need for CPU modifications, lol since the psp CPU speed is good enough already. You can try different CPU speeds in your VSH menu (Press select or home depending on your custom firmware).

  • Mel

    Hey there!

I’m planning to buy a psp sometime this month or the next but I want to know more about it so that I wouldn’t be conned.

Anyways, I’m planning to buy it at Digital Mall since I’m too lazy to go to KL. Is there anything that I should know before I buy a PSP? Plus, I don’t really understand about the games and UMD. Oh and could a converted PSP play an original Japan game?

I’m not really good at these programming stuff so yeah…

  • Hey Mel.Digital Mall is a pretty good place to get a psp.I believe the only have the psp slims there.A psp should cost around RM800 including all the accessories. This includes a pouch,a few games maybe (not UMDs,just iso game images),a screen protector,a 4gb memory stick(most probably fake) and a few other additional stuff.Buying a UMD isn’t required as the psp’s sold in Malaysia have custom firmware installed on it allowing users to play dumped UMD games.Don’t ask where to get them or how to dump a UMD here. The psp region isn’t really important because a psp no matter the region can play ALL the UMD games.Example a Japanese region psp can play American UMDs and so on.Only the UMD video requires the correct region but again, this isn’t important as you can convert your original DVD movies and watch them on your psp. Also, the psp region can be altered in the recovery mode settings.

You also mentioned that you’re not good at programming.Don’t worry. It’s not important at all unless you want to code your own game.Programming skills isn’t required for a psp user.I’m coding my own game with my brothers face in it..haha :D

Mel,i’m pretty sure you might not understand a lot more about the psp, feel free to ask more questions :)

  • are-yeed

saper tau harga psp skang nii….full package

  • are-yeed,sekarang harga psp agak murah berbanding waktu dahulu.Satu set psp (termasuk segala bahan keperluan) hanya berharga RM800 lebih.are-yeed,psp amat bagus, banyak fungsi. ;) Tanya jika anda kurang faham.

  • axbycz

anyone knows where can i downgrade / install custom firmware in melaka? my psp slim is official version 3.80

  • Shahiz

Will be landing in Kuala Lumpur on 25 May 2007 and will be there for two-three days. Am planning to buy a PSP Slim in Yow Fat Plaza. Can anyone send recommendations and current price?

  • acbycz,it’s a very simple process actually.First, you’ll need to get a psp with either 1.50 or custom firmware installed on it.Then, you need to download the U.P.M.S files and then you can make a Pandora’s Battery which can be used to install custom firmware on your psp. This would give you more features and advantages on your psp.

  • Shahiz, the current price of a psp (slim and fat) is about RM700 to RM800.Your psp should also come with custom firmware on it.(Example 3.90M33 firmware). You might get several extra accesories depending on your dealer. You should get a battery pack,a 4gb memory stick (Most probably a fake stick),a few games maybe, casing and a screen protecter.

  • zoobank_93

hello.anyone can help?wats the latest price for the normal psp value pack.not the psp slim.and where can i get ? .btw do u think if the price is like kononnya rm750 i can negotiate maybe at least rm680.thanks.

  • Arniel

to playboy- may i have your email address??? i just want to ask u about something which is not allowed here…. thanks… hoping for your immediate reply….

  • zoobank_93,It’s pretty rare to find psp fat’s now days as sony aren’t producing them in large numbers, but several shops still do have them so better get it before it’s too late.If you live in Selangor, you might want to check out Plaza Masalam which is in Section 9 right beside Concorde Hotel.I go there regularly and they still have fat psp’s with them.It costs around RM600-RM800 including a 4gb fake memory stick and several other extra acessories.

  • zoobank_93

fake memory card means what?not sony memory card?yes i live in game at least cost rm130 like that right?which shop in plaza masalam?theres a lot of it stalls there.

  • zoobank_93,go to the botto, floor, where you will see two game shops.Check both. And yes, brand new original UMD’s cost around RM200 ringgit.

  • Charmander

im confuse with the fat n slim pros n cons.i dont own any psp but planning to get 1. the fat seems to have sturdier n nicer body built (my oppinient only), slim got twice the ram n got nice display screen.but what im concern is the seems to go towards the slim.this is really causing confusion in my decision to buy which 1.why i concern about the firmware? it is because of the software it supports. if use the old firmware i think the software for those firmware might not last long as the rapid upgrade version growth.its going to be hard to find the sw in the internet if that happen.

  • zoobank_93

playboy,if i buy at the shop u recommend ,how much do u think it will cost if just the whole psp value pack with an original 2gb memorycard and 1 brand new UMD?

  • Charmander,in my opinion, the psp fat is better because yes as you said,it’s built better and it does have 1.50 kernel support allowing users to play homemade games while slim users can only run certain built games. This might be a little confusing :P .You have to code your own games using programming languages such as C,C++ or lua, then built it.The 1.00 make (build) works on psp slims and fat psps. However, the 1.50 make(build),only works on fat psp’s.The psp slim and fat’ screen is just the same. The psp slim doesn’t have the ir-port,not a big deal really, pretty useless port.As you said, the psp slim comes with a better RAM,but it’s pretty useless in my opinion. It just helps improve the internet brower a little bit, allows SKYPE and also loads UMD games faster. Not much of an addition for me.

Now comes the firmware part.I believe you’ve totally misunderstood on the firmwares. Both the psp slims and fat’s have the very same firmware.Only thing is that, the psp slim has 3.60 while the fat psp doesn’t have. The psp slim firmware was started on 3.60,so there’s no 3.30 etc for psp slim. The firmware is just the same, just minor advantages like TV output (crap) and some other nonsense. The psp slim is pretty good, but if you ask me,i’ll go for the fat psp,but remember, there is NO hard getting the psp slim.

  • zoobank_93,the price as i said earlier is around RM600-RM800.Including a 4gb stick. You need to buy the UMD by your own,not included.

  • Charmander

Playboy, i knew bout the ir-pot on the fat n the tv-op on the slim.i dig the ir better.yes i may have misunderstood that part.thats why i post the question.bout the screen, ive seen the fat screen.i think its quite good.i’ve never seen the slims.i only saw it on u-tube.the slims screen looks more vibrant in color. but unfortunately fo slim the sound sucks.but i dont care cos i’ll be wearin headfon :) .oh theres also rumours that the control on the slim is better than that on the fat?

  • Charmander

zoobank_93, there are only 2 shops there, if u want a value pack try asking the 1st shop i see when u take the the escalator near a perfume shop.a fat psp console they’ll sell u fo 600.i really dont know how much if its including a 2Gb ms.try asking fo discount.

  • Charmander,no.The psp slim sound system actually is better than the psp fat seeing that the psp slim speakers are situated right beside the screen. It’s louder actually. The controls on the fat psp are the same as the slim ones. You can open the psp and mess with the controls pad if you want better response, but it’s excellent already, doesn’t need further modification.

I’m getting more and more nervous….PMR is getting closer :( hehe

  • Charmander

well yes the the slims speaker is next beside the screen, but is it really better than the fats? i have no hands-on experience with the i dont really know. everything bout the slim i got it from u-tube. so if u had a hands-on experience bout the slim n fat that u want to share, than please do.that’ll help me in choosing which to buy.

p/s :regarding PMR, no worries, just do the past years paper.

  • Charmander, yea i’ve tested the psp slims and i own a fat psp.The psp slim is way lighter but doesn’t feel solid at all.Seems really plasticy..Also,yes the psp slim speakers are better, but not that good. You won’t really realise it unless you listen really carefully.Charmander,in my opinion,it’ll go for the fat psp :)

  • Charmander

Ho Ho Ho. I’ve just tested both PSPs today. Both of them, right in front of my eyes, at the same time.before this i’ve only tested the fat n felt satisfied. but its really different when u test both of em at the same time. u’ll see that the slims is way… better.except fo the body of course. the screen, the sound, the processing speed. god… any1 wud definitely choose psp slim. trust me. if u have a fat psp n ur fren got the slim, try to do a face to face comparison if u dont believe me. but then again. its all just my opinion. maybe some of u like a psp with sturdy body built. but for me, the display, speed n sound is important.

  • Charmander,i don’t entire agree with you…sorry. As i said earlier, performance wise, slims are better, but not WAY better. The fat psp is pretty good as well.Doesn’t freeze, don’t lag or anything else.Sound is good, but yes slims are better in sound.Screen pfft…just the same thing.

  • Mel

Sorry for the extremely late reply but thanks Playboy! I’ll keep that in mind. I’ll ask more questions once I actually get my hands on a psp. =3

  • Charmander

Playboy, well yea.i wuz like u before i test both slim n fat at same time.i too tought that it looks the same.but the fact is it doesnt.believe me.the screen wuz like… well in term of handfons screen, the fat psp screen is like the nokia 6600(soap) and the slim psp screen like the N70.the brightness n color wuz like 65k color on lcd display n the othe got 262k color on a TFT display.

  • Charmander,ah yes.Different people different taste lah! hehe.

    @Mel : No problem :)

  • Charmander

oi seems like theyre sellin bronze psp now at the masalam.nice… remind me of the limited edition monster hunter 2g psp which cost double the normal psp price.

lewat betol final. patutnyer skang ni org da nk abes finale da… tu a pasal… mmg sukar nk caye pasal murah bangat kan? tp pape pon, die kate die bg no fon suh kontek die utk tgk item (utk jual beli a kot). tu yg mendorong aku utk beli ngan beliau tu… oh psp xle a gune psp modem. die nyer os lain lgpon. cene nk install driver modem n ym. tp kalau ko gune yg firmware 3.90 tu ade skype (gune region europe). so kalau ade wifi connection memane, ko leh a main msg2 ngan kawan2 skype ko.aku pon tgh piki yg terbaik sebelum aku kuarkan 15 keping not RM50 aku utk sebijik PSP yg cute. muahahaha.

  • adikcute, and one more thing.I noticed that you mentioned something about iso/cso DVD’s.Those games obviously isn’t allowed here for several reasons, mainly the copyright reason. So please keep the chat on piracy to the minimum. Also,i realised that you’ve got yourself two “softwares” for your psp,may i know what are they?,and how much did he/she charge you for it?
I’ve got my reasons,i’ll tell you once you reply :)

    Thanks :)

  • adikcute

owh..tenkiu2.. aku blom bli psp lg..then xtau ‘software’ pe yg kdai tuh nk kasik..die just ckp package and harganyer….tp lom confirm g..still cr btol2 g..tkt ma kena tipu..aku dh la xtau sgt psp nih..just minat men game n lain2 function yg ada dlm psp nie..dh la kena kumpul duit sndri..tkt la kena tipu.. playboy..ader cdgn x bli kt kdai mana? yg confirm x tpu..n package die bg pon bagus???

  • Charmander

Aku pon nk tau gak kdi yg bgs xtipu n bg harge baek… setakat ni lelong a yg bg harge baek sekali. tp aku ade terbace kat thread forum satu nih, kate harge kat jb sekali ngan mem stick biase la… mmg la mem stick tiruan. tp at least ade mem stick ngan storage besa. then kumpul lak duit beli mem stick yg ori. yeah… (yg ori always the best… tp mahal a… hahahaha :D ).
pasal dvd tu, aku rase dvd yg full ngan game psp la… jarang a jumpe yg kasik software utk psp. lgpn kalau software nih, selalunye utk psp fat je. mcm software ir remote. obviously its useless utk psp slim yg xde ir port.lgpn software kene seiring ngan custom ware yg tertentu je kan? so aku rase x byk lg software utk 3.90 m33-3.

  • Charmander

Oohh.. dasyat ah kamu ni playboy,br 15 yrs of age da tere gune programing language. aku tau gak gune C++ tp takat yg aku blaja, program yg aku wat kuar kat DOS je. HAHAHA (punye a xterer… :P ).aku rase dvd yg die bg tu bkn DVD software la.. tp DVD iso.ade byk di jual di certain2 kdi game. aku pena tgk.

  • hahaha Charmander.Programming in C isn’t that hard,well it sure would seem hard at first,but after a while,you’ll gradually get used to it,and you’ll slowly understand it.haha DOS :D

Yup,that DVD isn’t software like video converters and shit. That’s an iso/cso dvd where they earn money for something they did not code. Those dvd’s contains pirated materials and obviously isn’t allowed here :)

  • adikcute

oh..pstuh,nnti kalo aku jadi bli..leh arr korg tolong ajarkan cara2 nk guna dgn lebih lnjut..kalo bc cmnie jer x brp paham ler..ish..playboy,cm nk mnta tlg ko jer yg g blikan..hehehehe…
    boleh? boleh? boleh la…

  • adikcute haha,ok.Pasti kami akan cuba menolong anda.Belikan game?
Tak bolehlah.Awal tahun pun ibubapa aku dah cakap, tak boleh beli game hingga PMR aku selesai. :(

  • Charmander

May i ask whats the price they offer at Digitall Mall? i heard the price at JB is 640 for console + 4Gb mem stick. damn. now i wish i live :))

  • Charmander,it’s around RM700 including a 4gb fake memory stick as well as several other additional accesories.I’m not sure about the Johor Bharu retailer, but i know about the one here.

  • Charmander

wow.. RM700 at digital mall… if its 3.90 M33-3 custom firmware then its ok. but if its like masalam with 3.80 m33 too then.. i think id buy from lelong.

  • Charmander,to be honest, the custom firmware you’re using doesn’t really make much of a difference.Take 3.80M33 and 3.90M33.It’s basically the same with one or two security tweaks and other simple bug fixes. To be honest with you,i’m still using 3.52m33-4 which is the second ever M33 firmware released. It’s excellent, and i’ve not encountered any problems with it.Same goes to 3.71M33,3.80M33 and 3.90M33.All those firmwares are excellent. As i told you in the last post,i can’t buy psp/ps2 games until my PMR examinations are over :(

Due to that,i have no reason to upgrade my psp and i’ll leave it at 3.52M33 until i finish developing my game :)

You can do this too.Buy a 3.80M33 psp for a reasonable price, and upgrade it to 3.90M33 :) Very simple process, but does have a chance of a brick seeing that it does alter the flash 0 during the process.

  • Charmander

oh ok… i know how to downgrade with pandora batt (can refer to u-tube) but how about upgrading? does it still need to be flash using pandora batt n magic mem too?

  • Charmander, depends. If you’re on custom firmware already,no need for a Pandora’s Battery in hand for the upgrading process. You just need to download the flasher, place the UPDATE folder in PSP/GAME,and run it! :)
Kernel needs to be set at 3.XX for the upgrading process, but mind, any upgrading/downgrading or even flashing process can cause your psp to be bricked. The only way this can be recovered is by using a Pandora’s Battery.Check YouTube to get an idea on a bricked psp.If you do have a psp with custom firmware, and you want to upgrade to a higher firmware, feel free to ask.

  • adikcute

thanks playboy..skrg nie aku pon nk tgh exam.. dis june..6/6..hope after my exam i can get my psp..hehehehe..maybe dlm july kot aku target see u in july ya playboy… gudluck!! one more, kalo ader wifi kn…leh guna Ym x kt psp?

  • chemas

    Hi all,

I live in shah alam and plan to get a psp at the end of this month. Is anybody can recommed me the shop that can give the best price including all the accesories with the price? Which is better, phat or slim 1?? huhuhu

  • adikcute,Hmm.Ada beberapa aplikasi macam “AFKIM” untuk MSN dan lain-lain,terdapat juga aplikasi untuk IRC chatting.Lepas kau beli psp, cubalah semua ini :)

    And good luck too !

  • Charmander

adikcute, ym xle diinstall dlm psp. tp kalau anda nk chat kot ym gak, leh try kat page (mase log in internet gune wifi la).leh chat terus mcm kat emel yahoo.well aku try kat safari iphone, leh je online ym melalui wifi

  • Charmander

ok playboy.correct me if im wrong.nk update psp ngan custom firmware, all i need is the cusom update file, and the original boot file for the specific update version.thats all kan?okla the boot file need to be rename as a pbp file.thats all rite?

  • Charmander, well pretty right. It actually depends on what firmware upgrade you’re going to peform. If it’s for the recent 3.71M33,3.80M33 or to 3.90M33,then yes, that’s pretty much it.Download the flasher, you’ll see a folder called “UPDATE”,place it in PSP/GAME and run it,that’s all.No reason for you to mess with the eboot.pbp file as you only need to mess with it for 1.50 kernel addon flasher (FAT psp only).

  • Charmander

owh… so psp 1000 je yg kene letak eboot.pbp dlm boot.psp 2000 xperlu.ok, thats mmg xkesa a beli psp version brape yg dijual kat kedai.sng je nk update.its the downgrade thats hard.

  • Charmander, actually the upgrading process for both the slim and fat psp is the same.Only the 1.50 kernel addon for the fatty is a little different, that’s all,and yes it’s very simple :D

Yea,tak kisah what firmware your psp is.As long as it has either 1.00,1.50 or custom firmware,it’s very easy to upgrade. The downgrading process might seem a little complicating, but it actually is pretty simple.Anything below 2.80 can be downgraded very easily, but anything above it requires additional stuff to downgrade it (like GTA LCS : Unpatched (Save data overflow),Lumines 1,and of course Pandora’s Battery)

  • chemas

is it any possibility that the psp can be attacked by virus?

  • Chemas,no seeing that computer viruses can’t run on a psp. However, you CAN create a so-called viruse that can brick your psp,but this method won’t work unless you purposely do it.A psp system is not as vunerable as a computer. This also means you can surf the net without any fear, but just make sure you don’t download any .exe files which of course won’t effect your psp,but might cause damage to your computer once you connect it via USB,and run the exe file on your psp.Nothing to worry about ;)

    Get a Mac,no viruse lah :)
    I’m on a Mac OS X (Tiger 10.4.4) :D

  • A psp system is not as vunerable as a computer. This also means you can surf the net without any fear, but just make sure you don’t download any .exe files which of course won’t effect your psp,but might cause damage to your computer once you connect it via USB,and run the exe file on your COMPUTER*
Sorry for the double post,my mistake lol

  • chemas

is there any final fantasy game for PSP? so fond bout this game…hehehe..btw how long the battery can long last during the gaming? plan 2 get 1 very soon..any recommendation for the place to shop? plzzzzzz!!!!!!!

  • Chemas year there is.Final Fantasy Crisis Core or something that goes along that line lol.Well, the psp battery is pretty amazing,it can last about five to seven hours depending on the speed the game uses.Anywhere in Selangor is fine with me.I don’t go around much nowdays due to PMR,so i can’t really recommend many, but Summit,Digital Mall and Plaza Masalam are all good.

  • Charmander

Chemas, how long the batery last depend on how much u use n how big the battery capacity.the fat psp battery last longer than the slims.those 5-7 hrs that playboy talkabout is the running time for the fat.well thats what my fren who has a fat 1 said to me as he compared his fat with his frens slim which only last to 4 hrs.1 more thing is u shud get original sony battery to last long.well u know the seller these days, u cant really believe that they will give u the original sony battery.the battery may look original.but u will know when u have 1.just like handphones battery.its different when u buy the original set compared to ap set which cost a lot cheaper.thats what u get for the low price.u must understand that.u can get original sony battery for slim from sony dealer.they will cost about’ll definitely last long.

  • chemas

huhuhu…thx guys for the info…but how 2 differentiate between the ori n fake 1?

  • chemas

charmander, can u recommend me shops that sell ori psp with the best price?huhuhu

  • Charmander

The shop that sell ori psps’… hm sony centre at klcc, sony centre time square, sony centre midvalley.i think they will sell u the machine for 799.bcos thats the price thay recommended on their web.those will not be the value packs.if value packs(kinda complete set by sony), they might sell u at to differenciate ah?sory i dont really know.china really can make a fake look like the real deal u know.unless u open it up and compare the circuits.

  • Charmander yea true that, but hell no lol don’t open the battery up unless you do have skills on it.It’s pretty risky and might result in several injuries. As for the original battery, contact a Sony dealer, and get it straight from them.As Charmander said, dealers these days are really cunning ;)

  • chemas

ok2 1 more question..i heard that the psp that we can buy at ordinary store others than sony center have more functions and can do more. is it true?

  • Charmander

Chemas, well… all psp are the same.its the firmware that allow u to get all the extra functions.if u buy psp from sony dealer, u still can use the ehem functions.all u need to do is upgrade the firmware to the custom one which u can download from the web(which i had been discussing with playboy).after using CFW(custom firmware) then u can use like so many software available fo psp.aint that wonderful?u dont really have to purchase from ordinary dealer. ;-)
but u need to either upgrade it on ur own or take it to the ordinary dealer to upgrade(which will cost u).if purchase from the ordinary dealer, they will upgrade it for u.meaning, they have already open the box, plug ur psp to their computer, upgrade it, (might even swap the content of the box too). :-))

  • Charmander, yup true.Actually, the shop dealers don’t hack the psp’s.They’re all done in a non-licensed factory somewhere in Malaysia. This means, they buy the psp’s (Official firmware with no iso/cso games and homebrew running ability),they hack it using a Pandora’s Battery which is created using a hacked psp, then they distribute it around Malaysia.Custom firmwares are actually official firmwares made by Sony, but it’s just hacked a bit. It’s like this.

Sony release a firmware ->A developer codes a flasher and a custom firmware ->Compiles it ->Release it ->When we flash it on our psp’s,custom firmware will be installed.

    The difference :
Custom firmware has a few more features like the recovery mode where we can do wonders (Switch button assignment, fake region, kernels, cpu speed). This also allows users to run games which are dumped. In other words,a custom firmware psp has ALL the features of the actual firmware (One or two useless contents are removed).Keep in mind that custom firmwares can run your UMD’s too.

  • chemas

oic.. tq it safe to install the custom by ourself? or safer to ask the dealer to do for us? how much they will charge?

  • chemas

playboy. how about the shop that you recomended at plaza masalam, digital mall? is there sell ori part psp including the battery?

  • chemas,as i said, when you buy a psp set from a loacl dealer, custom firmware is already included on it unless if you ASK for an official firmware one,but don’t.Just buy the custom firmware psp.Well, depends on the dealers,i know some who charge RM98 for a simple firmware upgrade which is mean’t to be FREE.Yes,digital mall and plaza masalam both sell original psp sets except for the memory stick which is a fake 4gb stick (usually). The only difference is that the original one is magic gate supported, while the fake one isn’t.Doesn’t make much of a difference in gaming or any other sense. It might just be a fraction slower than an original stick. If you do want an original 4gb memory stick,go seek for it at a licensed Sony dealer.

  • Charmander

chemas, bout the psp console, i think its fine if u buy the slim just launched it end of last i think not to worry to much bout it.if ur thinkin bout buying the fat one, than u shud reatailer dont sell those anymore.and if u want to buy it from local dealer, the psp might be a recon set.that u gotta worry.
the different between the one u buy from sony dealer and local dealer is the virginity of the set.if u buy it from sony, it a little costly but. it is sured to be a new set which no one has open the box yet. if u buy it from the local dealer, it has custom firmware.custom firmware are not installed in sony factory (well originally.i dont know if there are any local factory that assembled it locally with custom firmware).so that means, the psps are not virgin anymore.sumone has opened the box.touch it. hack it.and MAYBE, swipe the original content with low quality i hope u understand what im its kinda like a second hand set.only that they only try it out for a few minute.
ok bout the good store.the seller dont really care bout the psp.they buy them in bundle (a lot).so what do u long as the packaging is good.and the goods in it are in good condition, then they will say its good.they tryin to make a living.if u want to buy from the local dealer, then just pray that u get a good set.dont expect to much.u ask for a cheaper price, then u’ll get cheaper :)).(thats what will happen to me to as im goin to get 1 too)

  • Charmander, well basically, the psp set IS original, and yes it’s opened and hacked before hand. The accesory swap is true. They tend to swap the earphones to lower quality ones, the earphone controllers, the pouch(If it’s included) and at times, even the batteries but yea battery swapping is pretty rare. However, don’t worry, your psp set it just fine as it is in perfect condition. No damages or anything like that.As far as i know, there is only one psp recon set,the POPSTATION.This station looks like a psp,but it’s packed very badly and it’s real shit. You sure will realise that it isn’t a psp at first glance. It doesn’t even have a menu, and it can play guess what…..,games worse that GBC lol.

  • Charmander

lol Playboy.but i think u dont really understand what recon set is.the gamestations are not recon set.they are imitations.recon set is the set that looks brandnew on the outside.but not the inside.a second hand psp set might has a worn out casing thats full of scratch and just change the casing and reinstall the firmware.walaaa… a “brandnew” psp.thats a recon set.scary huh?the seller might sell u those set if u look for the fat psp now.cos fat psp are extremely rare rite now.especially the black u guys out there whose thinkin bout buyin a fat psp set, u better think thoroughly ok.

  • ah Charmander,yea i think i got that wrong.Thx :)

  • chemas

huhuhu…whateverla u guys…by the way can both of u recommend the best game to play? if i bought a ori psp, is it difficult to install the custom firmware by ourself?

  • chemas, depends on the firmware. If it’s above 2.80,it’s going to be pretty tough as you need additional stuff to downgrade like other UMD’s and if it’s above 3.50,you’ll need a Pandora’s Battery,so yea it’s pretty tough.chemas, instead of buying an official firmware psp, just get the hacked one with custom firmware installed on it to save you from hassle.I like God Of War : Chains of Olympus.Pretty good game. ;)

    Damn,i’m getting nervous lol PMR :| :P

  • Charmander

Chemas, to install custom firmware, there are two things u need to kno.1st to downgrade to lower version custom firmware. 2nd to upgrade to higher version custom firmware.if ur getting the slim, it comes with 2.80 and above ori firmware.then it wud be difficult like Playboy says if u want to downgrade it. but, if u want to upgrade, its simple.u can refer to you-tube on how to do it.very simple i tell u.if ur getting the fat, its a little bit harder.but not that no worry if u want to install custom firmware.but u can always take the easy way by getting the psp with preinstaled custom firmware like playboy said.thats the easiest :-))

  • Charmander

Eh, why ah the price of the deep red and the bronze still higher than the rest of the psp? the mint green’s price same as the others.:| I want the kratos red….

  • Charmander,no idea really.But man,i really like the deep-red psp,looks really sexy :)

  • Charmander

Yeah me too.its unique man… bet the girls lov it! lol :p

  • Charmander,haha lol

  • chemas

hi guys, im still looking for shop to buy psp…huhuhu…i saw plaza alam sentral a lot of choices there

  • Charmander

yeah… eh but hows the prize there now ah at PAS?

  • chemas

hurm..well i got asked 1 dealer there. basic psp (console, battery, charger, earphone without memory card) can get rm700 la. full accessories around rm850..OK ka?

  • chemas, pretty good in my opinion. But i reckon, you should get the memory stick together.if you don’t get it,the Plaza Masalam is better la.

  • Cast

hi guys, i’m new here and i’m going to get a new psp, so i need some advice on choosing a suitable MSPD:

    1. What is the recommended size of MSPD i should get? games are big nowadays so i’m afraid 1GB is not enough, but 4GB is expensive.

    2. Would transfer speed affect smoothness of game play? If there is no difference, why would Sandisk releases standard MSPD and ‘gaming’ line MSPD?

3.. Would storage capacity affect smoothness of game play? For example, 1GB card with only 1 game vs 4GB card with many small games plus one large sized game.

4.. Besides slower transfer speed of file, how would a fake Sony MSPD affect your PSP experience?

  • So guys, just a quick update on my game. It’s known as Playboy’s Shooter as most of you should have already known. It’s a very simple space shooter, and it’s coded in C.Most probably i’ll release it on the 31/5/2008.I sure will post the download link here so you guys ca give it a shot, and tell me what you think about it.Gameplay is pretty poor at the moment, but it’ll get better in the future releases,i assure you :P

So guys,i’ll proudly release my first ever homebrew game for the psp :D

  • chemas

huhuhuh…i still didn’t get my come i can play your game lol :P

  • chemas aha :P Try it once you get it lah! mwahahaha

  • blabla

    jz wana ask
    psp slim basic package+4gb memory(fake i tink)+custom frimware(duno wat version)=around rm800
    isnt worth it?

  • Ah right.I’ve completed coding my game, and here you go.

Check it out,and post some suggestions or comments on it :)

  • Charmander

yeah, maybe i’ll try n give comments on ur game when i get a psp.

  • Charmander

yo playboy, which shop u recommend i go to seek fo psp at digital mall?

  • I’m not reallly sure of the name of the shop..There are two game shops in the entire mall. The one i recommend is on the lower floor of the mall. That’s a good shop.

  • chemas

how come you said that 1 is a good shop? whats the price they offer?

  • Cast

congrats playboy for creating your very own game. can someone give me some advice regarding my question above? thank you =)

  • I’m not talking about the price. It’s just that they’re a lil’ friendly and they are pretty knowledgable on the psp.Their price is pretty reasonable too.Last time i checked,a psp slim set was about RM700 without any accessories.

  • Charmander

Whoah… well i think id buy psp in shah alam then.

  • chemas

well charmander please tell me once you buy yours soon..huhuh

  • adikcute

  • sandy

    thanks alot, terima kasih,xièxie,merci,dhanyavad,nanedri
    he he…

  • Charmander

Playboy, ur game’s name is “Playboy’s Shooter” is it? wow, that is a catchy name. i bet many pervert out there will download ur name due to the kinda-pervert name :)
dont get me wrong. its just my personal oppinion. when there’s the “Playboy” word, people wud surely think of Hugh Hefner’s magazine, the Playboy.

  • hahaha Charmander!! I’ll change the name of it in the future releases, after PMR maybe. xD

Cast,i’m really sorry for not replying,i totally missed it.

    Here you go.

    1) Get a 4gb stick from your local dealer. It’ll be a fake one for sure, but it doesn’t cause much trouble unless you’re going to use it to flash something to your psp.For gaming and other basic usage,it’s fine.

2)The file transfer speed would not effect the smoothness of the game. The smoothness of the game actually is decided by the CPU speed where the game will automatically set the CPU speed according to the code the developers coded on it so no worries.

    3) That’s not a problem either. The size of the memory stick does not effect the performace, but yes, original memory sticks are a little faster, but you won’t realise it at all.

    4) It’s just that the psp will read the memory stick a little slower, but again,it will not effect your gaming experience.

  • sandy,ai,i don’t know anything about the ps3,i don’t even own one. We’re here to help users on psp’s not ps3’s sorry. But sandy,i do know something about the ps3,it’s can’t play pirated games yet,so for the time being, you’ll have to spend around RM200 for a game.

  • Shahiz

I got my PSP only last week in the third floor of Low Fat Plaza for 750 Ringgit. It included the console, battery, charger, screen protector, casing, 4 GB memory stick full of games, and a free PSP headphone. The system software on it is 3.90. if you need more details, i might have the shop number and the mobile number of the sales person… but i am right now located away from Kuala Lumpur and was only visiting there as a tourist. tell me if you need the shop details.

  • Charmander

Dear sandy, there are 3 type or version of ps3, the one with 40Gb storage, with 60Gb, and 80Gb.theres no such thing as slim or fat ps3.the price are around 13++ to 18++.all these version don’t have the same spec.the 40Gb is the lowest cant play the ps2 games.the other 2 can.but it is better if u take the 80Gb.its full spec for ps3.yes, like Playboy said, it cant play pirated game.only original which will cost u from 8+ to 3++ a game.but its worth it.the games are magnificent.beside, it can also play the bluray disk.oh need to remind u it needs an LCD tv to be able to play anything.cos this is a High Definition device.u cud play by conecting it to the projector, but an LCD tv is better.if u dont have any, then i recommend u not to get a ps3.u’ll be dissapointed.
if ur brother hadnt own a psp.then its better to get him one other than a ps3.its a portable, game console, video player, audio player, and an internet browser(only if ur near a wifi or a hotspot).

  • Charmander

Shahiz, what color is ur psp?when u said screen protector, u mean a plastic sticker on the screen or a crystal casing?

  • adikcute

hi..i’m just finished my happy now..
playboy gudluck ya for your PMR. all the best!! senang kacang goreng.

  • chemas

shahiz, where u get yours? the kedai name what?

  • chemas

shahiz, have you checked all the store at lowyatt first before you really bought from that store? meaning the best price that you get there?

  • chemas

charmander, how about x-box 360? do you know the current price now?

  • Haha adikcute, kacang goreng kau kata!?! Kena belajar banyak lagi lah :P
Exams over eh? Now time for you to relax lah! :P

  • Charmander

sorry chemas, i dont dig much on 360.there are many version of 360 too.theres the first version which has a very nasty problem called the red ring of death or short kills ur 360 in an instant.thats why not so many ppl recommend the 360.then theres the falcon set which is said to have overcome the RROD problem.then theres the elite set which is rite now is said to be the best set.its the black colored 360. the price range are not so different from the ps3 but they can play the pirated games and can be played on normal tv set.but for satisfaction, better get urself a ps3.although the price of the game is quite expensive, but satisfaction guaranteed.just like the umd for psp or an original gamboy game cartridge.

  • Charmander

to Playboy, dont stress too much thinkin bout PMR.its really not that hard.u get objective set of question unlike xperlu sgt igt detail.igt for subject yg ade kene wat folio tu kene la wat betol2 utk folio.

  • chemas

huhuhu…seems like 360 price much more expensive than psp…well i’ll go for psp then. hey charmander hv u got psp yet?

  • Charmander

hehe.i’ve got enuf money to buy one since my first thread i post here.but rite now, i dont think that i’ll buy a psp in this near time.i’m thinkin bout sumthin else that seems more profitable(i hope).then get my self a psp afterward.well it is quite dissapointing fo me.but i think that its a sacrifice for a better future.hey tell me when u got urs ok.

  • chemas

hek eleh… r u going 2 marry charmander?? hahaha… well then just tell me if u found any store that selling cheap psp ok :P

  • Shahiz

Charander: my psp slim is piano black in color. when i said screen protector, i meant the sticker. but i also got a crystal casing the last time when i bought a psp for a friend in december. this time, the shop had run out of it so gave me a black rubber casing instead.
chemas: i did check the price in most shops at low yat when i was purchasing one for a friend in december. that time i had paid 900 ringgit. this time i walked into the same shop with my last bill and got a deal for 750 ringgit. it was only in the last week may. the shop name is s.f. sb, lot 3itk12, 3rd floor, plaza low yat (tel: 012-2328831). you can meet a friendly salespersons named “y” and “john” and tell them their customer from Nepal had recommended the place. you might get a better deal. all the best!

  • Ooi!! buy the psp fasterlah!! If you’ll are being too price consious, then it’s gonna be difficult.

    @Charmander yea,but i’m still nervous lol.

  • Shahiz

chemas: the 750 deal included the console, 4gb memory stick full of games, usb cable, silicon case, screen protector (sticker) and headphone.

  • chemas

hahaha…rilexla playboy…price is 1 factor when buying psp what? so later i dont regret whenever anyone else buy cheaper than mine..heheh…well hell wish u luck playboy..your game hv cheat code ka?

  • chemas

Shahiz, your psp come with headphone with remote or not?

  • Shahiz

yes chemas, it is a headphone with remote… just the headphone designed for psp.

  • chemas

Shahiz, the 750 deal dont hv battery and charger ka?

  • Shahiz

the 750 deal has battery and charger. it comes within the console.

  • chemas

shahiz, is it an ori or fake headphone? i think i’ll buy from the store you recommeded. hahaha..thx a lot

  • Shahiz

chemas, i can’t make out if it’s original or fake but looks just like genuine with sony packaging that says warranty only in korea. on the console, you’ll get the carton package as well as all the sony manuals and console number. hence, the console is genuine. i don’t think the memory stick is genuine though. if you meet “y” and “john”, you can tell them “satish from nepal” recommended if it helps. i don’t think they’ll remember my name but they’ll surely remember customers from nepal who’d purchased psp on may 26. you can send me updates if they still remember me, hehe. need to build better relations when i have to go there again to buy gadgets in kuala lumpur, hehe. this is the second psp i got from the place. i also got a nintendo ds lite from the same place in december.

  • Charmander

i really do want to buy psp soon.i even got my eye on that particular psp.very nice 1.but suddenly this opportunity came to me that i can make money with i sacrifice my psp money to do the business.and then not only will i able to make up for my psp money, perhaps i wud also be able to get married (if the business work and i’m able to get sum1 to marry

  • chemas

Shahiz…you sure a rich Nepalese right? hahaha..can buy most all the game stuff as that..well i’ll mention your name when i dealing with them..who knows i’ll get cheaper price..thx fren

  • Nah,chemas,i have not installed any cheat codes on my game yet.I’ve got no plans of adding it to my game yet,so yea :P

  • Charmander

Argh! my dream psp is on sale fo RM999.00!!!
limited edition God Of War psp.damn… wish i had the budget.

  • Shahiz

chemas, not rich. was just buying those games for friends as it is cheaper there than here in Nepal. but i am very interested in techie stuff so don’t mind shopping for friends, hehe. all i got for myself was a PSP, that too with a lot of savings… but it’s worth it!
do send updates on your meeting with “Y” or “John”. i might need those contacts again when i land there to get more stuff. i might as well buy it there and sell them here to make a little profit, business wise, hehe.

  • Pete

I didn’t realize what brewing in this part of the world.. found it only now. I’ve been reading all the posts – great stuff Playboy has to share.. thanks.

Playboy.. could you send me the guide too…
“I’ll then give you an excellent guide made by my friend (psp-hacks guy) which will help you make a Pandora’s Battery”.. thanks in advance.. penanguy at gmail dot com

  • Ok sure Pete, but first,i do need information on your custom firmware psp in order to link you the guide. What firmware is your psp and is it a fat or slim one?

  • Pete

My PSP is the fat one and it has 2.70 firmware..
BTW, is there such a thing a psp virus? Should I be worried if I were to pass the memory stick to a friend who can copy files into it.

  • Ah Pete,i’ve got a pretty good news for you.You don’t need a Pandora’s Battery to downgrade a 2.70 firmware. You need to upgrade to 2.80,and you caan use the 2.80 downgrader to get to 1.50 as it’s the safest way to downgrade a 2.70 psp. This process however, requires PLENTY of patience, and trust me on it.The end result however,is worth the wait.

    First,upgrade to 2.80 using this :
You can find the 2.80easy-upgrader here.

Once you’ve done with the upgrading process, use this and downgrade your psp to 1.50

    Downgrade package :

Follow this guide for further help :

Just run that on your psp and follow the instructions.Remember, you should run the idstorage patch before downgrading.

ASK if you don’t understand anything.Remember, this process involves flashing your psp and has a possiblity to brick your psp,so use it at your own risk.

  • Aw,i forgot about your PSP virus question.Actually there are psp viruses, but it will only run if you force it to do so.It’s made by other developers for “fun”.So it’s pretty safe for you to use your psp.No viruses unless you force them to work on your psp.

  • Hey Liew CF,i’ve got a pretty silly problem here.I may need your assistance because i’m having difficulities withdrawing money from my PayPal account.I assume that you do have a PayPal account seeing that you have your own blogs and sites up,so any help would be appreciated.I’d love a step-by-step guide on how to do it.My account keeps saying US banks etc and i’m confused.I’m sorry for being a little off-topic.Thanks in advance :)

  • Charmander
  • Charles

hi all. i m new here. about psp. anyone knw the software which can insect in psp? jus bought it this month and update to 3.90 M33-3.
haha~~~ so happy to ply wit it.

  • Ah Charmander, money making eh? I need help on it as well.I’m receiving decent amount of money for my game in my PayPal account, but i don’t know how to withdraw it.Any help mate?

  • arepeace

HI, its been a long time I didn’t visit this forum…quite hot here eh..
Im interested in Playboy problem…about Paypal…
I’m also making business, but not selling my own product..

    Ok, Paypal prob.
    U are malaysian right playboy?
for malaysian, until today there are no way to withdray your money from Paypal account since paypal didn’t approved any local banking withdrawal in Malaysia. In another word, Paypal did not yet accept any Malaysian banks as their co-company…

Yea, bad news for you, we still cannot withdraw any pennies in our Paypal account yet.
ACCEPT, you may have an USA bank account…and to have that bank account, you need to have your USA home address first…
    quite problem right?

GOOD NEWS that, MalaysianPal is underway to deal this Paypal problems, hope that someday we may withdray moneys from our Paypal account from our local bank…

If you dont want to wait until that time, you may spent your money in Paypal by buying some online products (ebay, amazon etc)…

  • Charles

hi, arepeace. if like that, how we get our item from other country?
is it we hav to pay tax to get the item?

  • Charmander

hi all.well thats 1 good reason why i never participate in anything that needs paypal account.i just dont know how to withdraw any money from it.

  • Ah arepeace, thanks for the answer. At least i fully understand the entire withdraw method now, thanks to you.But i’m feeling pretty sad…i was thinking maybe i could withdraw all my money i earned from the donations on my game, and save it you know.I don’t want to spend it all on eBay stuff :P

I think i’m better off just waiting for PayPal Malaysia :P

One more question,if i do have some trustable friends over there in US,can they withdraw the money for me,and somehow send it to me over here?

    Once again,thanks arepeace.

  • chemas

Hye all..its been a while i’ve not been here..mwahaha! well charmander i still not getting my psp yet..huhuhu..need to spend the money for others things lol..cani get rich if i join ur bussiness heh?

  • Charmander

chemas, it is possible to get rich.but have to work hard.this is not an investment.oh psp chan, when will i ever own u?

  • chemas

owh charmander! if it’s not an investment, what could it be dude? direct selling? huhuhu

  • arepeace

    hi. here my answer.

    TO : charles
what do u mean by “how we get our item from other country?”
is that you mean buying some stuffs from other countries?
is that so, you will need to pay the price for shipping the stuffs to Malaysia (or to other place) also. this mean that you may need to pay some advance amount in order for the seller to send your stuff straightly to ur home. normally. the items you see in auction sites is already include the shipping price. AM I ANSWERING UR QUESTION?

That’s a good idea. its better to save ur money that buying something on ebay. so, u juz need to wait our MalaysiaPal solve this matter. Why dont u goole on MalaysiaPal and check out if they already solve this…well, who knows?

about using ur trustable friends in US, i dont quite know if this way is work.

Maybe its work, but you may NEED to readjust your account in Paypal, and change into your trustable friend’s informations. I mean you may need to change the address, name etc…
WHY? because you may need the US homeaddress in order to have a bank account there.

I cant promise its work…sorry for that.

eww…is this too much? discussing Paypal in PSP forum? hahaha…sorry LiewCF…

maybe we can discuss it in my site…here :

  • ah ok cool.Just one more question mate,if MalaysiaPal is out, would i have to re-register and would i lose all my current savings?

    Thanks for replying :)

  • Charmander

Yes Chemas, it is as u think.hmm… i haven’t joined it yet.but i really do understands how it work and all.but still thinking bout buying a psp.if i buy a psp then thats it for my saving.if i join this i still got chance to buy a psp, but am still got the chance to lose it all.hahaha.this is more confusing than choosing where to buy a psp.

  • arepeace

what ya mean by ‘if MalaysiaPal is out, would i have to re-register and would i lose all my current savings?’ ???

sorry, you need to explain that phrase more…I cant understand.. :(

sure…i willingly trying my best to help u…well, ‘sharing is caring’ ;)

  • TSL

I have been having the psp for few months now and i started to get the hang of it.
Though it just that recently i started to play psx games on the psp but there is one particular game (digimon world 3). It tend or more like certainly hang when it went to certain area, i have been trying to figure that out anf search the web a few times and i come across popsloader.
Can that solve my problem? My psp slim is currently using custom firmware 3.95m33-2. Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • TSL,well i’d be really happy to help you out,but the games that you have are all illegal, and illegal activities are not allowed here for some obvious reasons. So it’s best for you to seek help from several other trusted psp sites. And just so you know, there is no 3.95m33-2.There’s only one custom firmware for 3.95 and it is 3.95GEN by Mariam.

  • And TSL,i forgot to mention that the popsloader is actually a ps1/psx emulator. So yes,you might want to try it. *wink* *wink* ;)

@ arepeace : About the paypal,i mean like once the malaysiaPal is out,can i resume my current account or do i have to make a completely new one where my savings return to $0?

  • adikcute

    hi there..
playboy..maybe i’m gonna buy my psp at singapore coz my cousin are going there… and the price is quite good..
can psp from there paly copy games?
u can help me right if i had any problem rite?? huhuhuuh :)
    thanks ya..

  • Charmander

Yo Playboy, can give me links to download games n stuff fo PSP.

  • Charmander

Oh when i mean games, i meant real psp games, such as GTA,NFS, like these, not just homebrews.if u can help.

  • adikcute, sure it can play dumped games, but of course, you do need a custom firmware psp.
@Charmander,well you can obtain them online, but it’s againts the rules to post a piracy-related link in here,so i guess you’ll have to do your own research. It’s very simple, either use torrents, usenet or just google for the titles you want.Simple as that. And also, you bought your psp already ah? :D

  • Charmander

Ok, what say if u mail me the links.then it’ll be a secret between us both.
    arifffathi at yahoo dot com
i’ll tell u after u give me the links whether i’ve bought or not ;)

    Hi playboy,
i’ve 1 question to u…how to differentiate between the original & recon PSP?
is it from the price of the psp itself?because i find out in Holiday Plaza JB, the price for psp is quite cheap,it’s about rm600++ can get the console(already modified),4Gb memory stick(with the pirate game in it),n the crystal there a possibility that the psp is a recon one?thanxx….peace..

  • Well,ARCHTUNG,i can’t say for sure if it is a recon set or not,but yes the possibilities are there, but i’d say very slim.I’m saying so because as far as i know, the process of the psp sales is something like this.Buy psp,go to factory, send to dealers, and that’s where you guys buy it.It’s not much of a problem to worry about mate, many of my friends have bought theirs from all sort of places in KL,and theyr’e all working fine. Also, your psp price is pretty reasonable. As for the 4gb memory stick you’ll be receiving in the package,it most probably is a fake one but as usual, nothing to worry seeing that it doesn’t really effect your gaming experience. It’ll only matter if you’re using it for some other flashing processes.Nothing to worry though.

  • adikcute

what do means by custom firmware psp? do i need to buy it?

  • chemas

Mwahahaha! hi all! long time no see me ha? well charmander, have u bought ur psp yet? huhuhu…pls22 tell me dude!!!

  • chemas

Hi all…need your opinion dude! which is better? ps2 slim or fat?

  • Min

i don’t mind the besides games it also got wifi connection..i’ll take the slim one

  • adikcute

playboy wut do u means by custom firmware psp?

  • Hey just so you guys know,a new psp custom firmware is out.4.01M33 by Dark_AleX.Go to for more info.

  • adikcute

4.01M33?more better?.. um.. btw, i cancelled to buy psp in SIngapore. playboy..
if i buy psp from any country..can i still play dumped game? or i need to do something with that psp? if i need to modified the psp can u help me?

  • adikcute, well there sure is a problem. If you buy a psp elsewhere, you might get a psp with official firmware installed on it.That means, you cannot play dumped games. However,if you do know somebody who has a hacked psp in hand, you can use his/her psp to make a Jigkick Battery and a Magic Memory stick.Doing so will allow your psp to boot to your memory stick instead of the flash 0.Then,you can install custom firmware on it.You can also buy the Pandora’s Battery of eBay etc.I sure can help you if you need my help, but i think it’s better just to get an already hacked psp :)

  • hey! Playboy !! any chance of remembering me !? huh !? it’s been over 3 months since I’ve been here in the discussion, hmmm long time lol !
Recently I got a peculiar problem (I hope it can be solved though I don’t have much hope).
A month ago my cousins did something with my PSP and it seems my firmware got effected and the games are not working but the PSP is still working fine. PB can you please help me finding what the problem is. I’m asking this because at the moment I’m not in a position to get new firmware into it (can’t afford it, as it’s a bit expensive here).

    The present firmware I got is 3.71 m33-4 !!

I’ll try to meet you in ur forum, do reply me over there PB or else here !
after all I was anticipating to meet you online since very long time .

    Thank you !!

  • Hey kool_buddy,yea of course i do remember you :)

About your psp problem, most probably you switched the UMD mode without realising it.It’s very simple to solve.Press the “select button” or the “home button” in your psp menu (PSP XMB).A small VSH menu would then pop up.Scroll to the one that says “UMD Mode”.Hit X until it says either “M33 Driver” or “SonyNP9660”.Then try running the game again. :)

  • Charmander

hey all,its been quite a while since my last post.well i’ve bought my psp (white colored) from a store in its called nelsonkoay if im not mistaken.the reason cos i feel sick with twisted tounge seller at masalam (the 2nd store after u got off the escalator).its firmware, 3.90 not sure which version.i’ll check that later.oh thanks Playboy,i’ll try ur game after this. :)

  • adikcute

    ooo..good charmendar..
berapa harganyer? ok ker?i mean the quality.. u go to the shop or just by post?
naper dgn org yg jual kt plaza massalam tuh? die tipu ko ker?
smlm aku ader tgk2 gak kat lelong tuh..nelsonkoay ok jak.. harga pon reasonable.. memandangkn ko dh bli..better ask u 1st..
hope we can share the info..

  • Charmander

well, to me its fine as long xde problem.ok la.for 738 get 4Gb cristal case n masalam first they say 600 fo the common color n 650 for red.then suddenly 650 for common color.then pay 700 u’ll get 1Gb.thats so sh* i chose to buy from lelong

  • @PB thanks for the solution but it seems it’s not working that way. and ur explanation seems to be correct, bcuz may be my cousins did something like that w/o their knowledge (as they don’t even know what a PSP is).

but when i go to that VSH menu… I can see that UMD mode which is set to Normal and I’m unable to change it by pressing X (nothing happens) it just stays that way !! :-??

lemme tell the exact error what i’m getting when I start a game:

“Game cannot be started : error: 80020321”

thanks a lot for your efforts !

  • @PB
Dude, Press Select in XMB. A menu will be displayed. this is called VSH menu.
there will be an option of ‘UMD ISO MODE’. Set it to SONY NP9660 or M33 DRIVER. Ur games shud work fine.

Still it is recommended to upgrade to 3.90m33, as its more stable for playing games

This is what SOMEONE(not u Playboy) suggested me ! so do u think I Shld upgrade to 3.90 m33 PB ? but I dunno why but I strangely dont wanna upgrade as I like 3.71 for unknown reasons.

btw I’m sorry for asking too many annoying questions.
and I don’t have a UMD, i only use ISO images for playing.

  • Charmander 2 problems.
    1. i got no skype on my psp.i use 3.90 m33-3
    2. need help in installing app n homebrew.i got GOW iso.then compressed it to CSO.but when put it in mem stick, my psp doesnt detect it.or.. did i got the wrong iso?the 1 that need to be burn on cd?n how to install CWCHEAT on PSP?

  • @ PB Problem is solved, I was trying with X before for selecting the options in the UMD mode. But I could select the options using “right”. Now the games are working fine, thanks a lot PB.

Please answer my qstion regarding the update to 3.90. u saved me from going for a fw :p

  • Charmander

Oh yeah, 1 more. How the heck to install a .ctf theme on 3.90 m33 machine?

  • Alright,now time to help you all! :D :D

kool_buddy,well i had no problems whatsoever on 3.90m33.It’s just as good as any other custom firmware.kool_buddy 3.71m33 is an awesome firmware. That somebody who told you to upgrade to 3.90m33 actually is crapping.Theres no such thing as “more stable” iso loader on 3.90m33.To make you feel good,im still on 3.52m33-4,way behind 3.71m33 :P

Charmander, first do you have a psp slim?
If yes,set your Fake region to either America or Europe and Skype should appear.
As for your games, place them all in the ISO folder which is in the root of your memory stick.

Charmander, right,a friend of mine in US created a guide for CTF themes on 3.90m33.It’s really damn simple.Just a plugin.

    Here you go :

Enjoy all!! and sorry for the late replies.

  • hanhan

    hi u all

next week i plan to buy psp but i got many problem here…
i wan to ask psp slim or psp fat beter??
can i know kl price how much now???
now buy psp gt 4 gb memory stick??
juz now i found here psp slim include 4 gb – RM790 is it suitable price???

  • Charmander

Thanx PB,i’ve solve my problem with the ctf file.the problem was with 1 of the theme called VistaCor.other xmb themes are fine.VistaCor seems to have problem when shuts down right after loading.i dont know, maybe its not meant for 3.90 m33. :p
eh, if i set the region to europe or america, wont it have any problem with the ISO file?

  • Charmander, nice.Good to know that you’ve managed to fix it.

The UMD’s will load fine. The only thing that won’t work is the UMD movie, but i don’t see any use in buying UMD movies anyways.

  • adikcute

    i went to summit yesterday..
may i know which shop sell psp is better?
can u recommend to me which shop?? please…

  • adikcute,ah i’m sorry.I’m not that used with stores ib Summit.Try asking others.Sorry.

  • Charmander

to all who wanted to buy a psp,if u want to buy, dont buy the red or bronze (or any other color) from local dealer.they might be recon set.especially the two color i mentioned before.if u want those better get from sony dealer.the other 6 color, they MIGHT NOT all be recon set.
i bought white 1 befor, then go change a red 1 2days later (cos its so pretty).then when i look closely(i like to look avery detail.but after i got home oready) then i feel like my red psp aint the real thing.the body looks ok from outsid.but when look on the inside u’ll find that the color is different from the outer 1.maybe its the real thing.but maybe its not as well.its made in china.deep red are suppose to be limited edition, but as u can see, many are sold by our local dealer.
no worry bout the performance.they perform well as a problem.its just that if u are afraid u might get a recon set, then my advice, avoid buying the limited edition(deep red n bronze only.the starwars,ff7 n GOW might be fine) from our local dealer.

  • jim666

moshi² playboy..i got some Q sick me up!!
i got slim psp n currently im using 3.93 but i cant play the iso game coz i upgraded using the wi-fi (stupid me) i’d tried to get the custom 1 bit non of that usefull..i’ve been stuck 4 olmost 3 month..oh just using my psp 4 mp3 (pity me) can u teach me how solve this prop..n 1 more thing how to downgred the firmware?

  • Alright bro’.Looks like you’ve got yourself in some deep problems. This problem can be solved pretty easily, using a Pandora’s Battery.

A Pandora’s battery consists of a jigkick battery and a magic memory stick.Confused eh? No worries. The jigkick battery is actually a standard psp battery and the memory stick is the standard Sony/Sandisk one.

Now to create a Pandora’s Battery, you’ll need access to an already hacked psp.If you do have it,inform me and i’ll help you make one.If you don’t,then you might have to buy one off the internet for a pretty hefty price OR open up the psp battery and hardmod it.

The best way is to softmod it using a hacked psp.Cheers bro’.Tell me if you don’t understand any of the above.I’ll explain even more then. :)

  • Charmander

does jim really need pand batt n magic stick?cant he just update it with 4.01 m33 into his mem stick directly?

  • jim666

  • Charmander, not he can’t seeing that official firmware 3.93 can’t run the installer nor any other homebrew. In fact, the only official firmwares that can run homebrew are 1.00 and 1.50.Using some hacks.(HEN),tiff homebrews can be played on 2.71 official firmware.

  • Alright jim666,i knew that you’d be confused. Now,as i told Charmander earlier, you can’t run homebrew on an official firmware psp except for 1.50 and 1.00.That means, when you try doing so on an official firmware psp,you would get an error. The exact error that you got.

    Now,i’ll explain.

A psp boots up from flash 0 which is your psp life where all the important stuff are situated in.Your main menu, video and everything. So now, what the Pandora’s Battery does is that,it boots your psp to the memory stick instead of the flash 0.And this is a very good hack for users can use it to install any firmware over their current firmware.

Example : You’ve got 3.93 official firmware. Now when you insert a Pandora’s Battery, with the memory stick firmly placed in already, your psp will auto-boot and it’ll bring you to a menu where you can install custom firmware on your psp.

    Themes :
Well, for the moment, you can’t use CTF/Flash 0 themes. You however can use PTF themes.Search for some PTF themes in Google, and place the .ptf file in PSP/THEME.Once done,go to themes and select it.Then boom, the theme is installed.

    Hope you understand mate :)

Yes,once a psp has custom firmware installed on it,users can run dumped games on it.When you buy a psp set,it most probably would have custom firmware on it,so no worries.

  • This is a message by our fellow friend Charmander who is facing several difficulities posting here so he told me to post it for you all to read. Here:

“to all who want to buy a new psp especially the slim model.i suggest u go buy from original sony dealer.u can buy from the locals but do be careful with the cheap price.u might get a recon set.
i got my new was a white colored model.probobly a japan set as it has a 1seg program on it.then i changed to a deep red color (sexy) after 2 days i got the white 1.this 1 doesnt have any 1seg.the body looks like its a recon not sure.what made me think its a recon is when i look closely the color of the battery cover and the front cover, theyre slightly different.its like it was sprayed with red colored for any1 who really pays a close intention to details. get ur psp from original sony dealer. as for me. i dont really mind as long as it function well. :)”

  • Playboy

readz, well it’s pretty cheap compared to the hefty price tag it had before.Go to Lowyat Plaza or Sungei Wang and roam around till you find a deal which your feel is reasonable.

how am i suppose to begin???
    i hav a slim psp… and a few questions…
    1) process of making pandora battery is complicated and little confusing… i visited others sites, and get different tutorials… this confused me… and only selected type of battery can be used to make pandora battery. i wish to know which type of battey…
    2) if possible, any shops outside in klang valley selling pandora battery??? maybe i buy one instead of making it by myself…
    3) i heard of magic memory stick… and read the tutorial of making it in other sites… it seems easier to make than pandora battery… wat is size of memory card required???
    4) is pandora battery have to work with magic memory stick to unbricks psp??? or either one able to do that???

  • chemas

    hi all,
i am planning to get a psp by the end of this year. anybody know what the current price is now?

  • Playboy

Sabata, you might not want to do so as the new PSP 3000 might take a really long time to get hacked. This in other words mean, that you have to dig RM200 for every UMD game that you buy.I’d say,get the PSP2000 when it’s still around.

  • Playboy

zoobank93,of course custom firmware is better as it allows us users to fork out more functions out of our psp units.Official firmwares, are firmwares that are unable to run iso games, homebrew games and MANY more.Just get custom firmware, and never once upgrade to official firmwares unless you have got a good clue on what you’re performing.

  • kakigame

A Sony UMD movie cost RM120? That’s ridiculous, I can just buy a pirated vcd for RM5 and rip it into MP4 format and save it into the memory stick and play it on my psp. Come to think of it, who would buy a movie for RM120?

  • wan
