Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 is the company’s latest tablet in the year 2015. It is thinner than a magazine and lighter than a can of coke. I had a chance to spend a month with it and here is my Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 8.0-inch review.
Table of Contents
Slimmest & Lightest
My first impression was, “Wow! It is so thin!”
I was amazed by its slim body for a tablet. It is only 5.6mm thin and weighs 272 gram. I have no problem holding the 8-inch tablet in my palm.
The review unit I received is Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 White colour with a metal frame finishing. The design is sleek and stylish.
Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 has a physical home key which is double as a fingerprint scanner. You can easily unlock the device with a press, both secure and convenient.
The power button, volume rocker, SIM and microSD slots are located at the right-hand side, keeping the left-hand side clean. At the back is the 8MP bulging rear camera with F/1.9 big aperture.
8-inch Super AMOLED display
I have to admit that Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 has the best tablet display I ever used. I immediately fall in love to its 8-inch Super AMOLED display the moment I pick it up.
The 8-inch Super AMOLED display has a high resolution of 2048×1536 pixels. Samsung’s Super AMOLED is well known for the brightness and vivid colours. It delivers 94% of natural tones to show true-to-life colours.
The display has a reading-optimized ratio, which is great for reading e-books, magazines, web pages and newsfeeds.
Productivity & Entertainment
Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 runs Android 5.0 (Lollipop) with your familiar Touch Wiz UI. It offers a Multitasking feature, allowing you to view and run two apps simultaneously with Pop-up Window – new feature lets you easily navigate between multiple apps at once.
The tablet comes preloaded with Microsoft Office Solutions for your on-the-road productivity, composing and editing documents. You also get free OneDrive 100GB cloud storage for two years!
For your entertainment needs, Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 also preloaded iFlix and Samsung Milk Music.
iFlix is the Southeast Asia’s leading Internet TV service, you will enjoy free 1-year subscription of unlimited access to its rich variety of western, Korean and Chinese movies and TV series, kids content, local market content and other original productions.
Samsung Milk Music offers more than 150 genre-based and curated stations with a distinctive dial design. You can fine-tune the genre-based stations based on popularity, novelty and favourites for best-personalized music listening experiences.
Performance & Battery Life
Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 is powered by Octa-core processor (Quad 1.9GHz + Quad 1.3GHz) and 3GB RAM and 32GB internal memory, it supports microSD memory card up to 128GB.
The tablet performance is smooth and stable during my review period. I did not have app crash or app lagging problem.
Overall, the performance is on par to Samsung Galaxy Note 4. Here’s the scores in different benchmark tests:
- AnTuTu Benchmark: 46377
- Geekbench: 1220 (Single-core), 4087 (Multi-core)
- Vellamo: 1900 (Metal), 2163 (Multicore)
Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 uses a 4,000 mAh battery for your long usage. It recorded an impressive 8 hour 12 minutes in PCMark battery life test!
Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 has an 8MP rear camera with F1.9 aperture. The big aperture allows more lights to be captured and produces brighter and sharper photos. The front camera is 2.1MP.
I do not expect much from tablet’s camera, I do not even agree to take photos with a tablet. But Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 surprised me.
Despite lower resolution than today’s smartphone, the rear camera able to capture quality photos with correct colours and low noise level. The F1.9 aperture makes your object pop-up by blurring the background (bokeh).
Unlike other useless low-resolution front-facing camera that shots blurry and high noise photos, Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 front camera is good! It manages to keep the details while keeping noise at a low level. Plus, I look more handsome with the Beauty mode. :)
Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 is the tablet that I will recommend to everyone who is looking for a tablet for both work and entertainment. It is slim and light with a great display, good performance and long battery life, preloaded with Microsoft Office Solutions, iFlix and Samsung Milk Music.
Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 price in Malaysia is RM 1,699 (8.0-inch) and RM 1,999 (9.7-inch), available in Gold, White and Black colour.
