The sample file you sent contains a new virus version of buppa.k.
Please update your virus scanner with the attached dat file.

++++ Attachment: No Virus found
++++ F-Secure AntiVirus – www.f-secure.com

My webserver filtered the above email as spam. The email is probably spoofed to make it looks like sending from Symantec(the owner of Norton Antivirus). Ironically, the email claims to be scanned by F-Secure AntiVirus (Symantec use F-Secure? ;) ) and virus free.

I do not download nor open the attachment file, of coz. I am sure 99.9% that it is a virus, because I am not Symantec customer! Also, companies always prevent to send attachment to their customer to avoid spoofed virus mail like this one.

Thought:
The virus free text added by antivirus software to all outgoing emails has been used by virus to trick users. It is dangerous!

Be careful on email attachment, even the email body claimed to be scanned by well known antivirus and it is virus free!

    Tell me about it. Once I was stupid enough to click on the .pif file that a friend sent(at least I thought she sent it to me). And I have never recovered from the incident. Somebody told me I need to reformat the HD. But, who has the time.

    It has reached the point where anytime I get an unexpected attachment, even if it’s supposed to be from a friend, I delete it. Way too risky lah, nowadays!

    seri: first, make sure you have antivirus software installed and installed the latest virus updates. Do a full system scan, find out the virus name. If your antivirus cannot remove it automatically, search Google for removal methods. Format HD is a stupid way to solve virus problem, in my opinion.
    SS: ya, nowadays we cannot trust the source of the email that it appear as it is… quite sad.

    Yes, I’ve just got the same e-mail from the same Keria Reynolds. I am not a Symantec subscriber, I think this is a virus
