Visualead is one of the fastest growing startups to be seen lately on the QR code frontier, and they’re promising to eliminate the black and white dotted QR codes and replace them with visual ones – QR codes that are merged within an image. The result? Attractive, interactive and scannable designs that are much more effective at engaging customers and transporting them into the online world.
But their visions of the future are much more than just attractive QR codes. Visualead has set its eyes on digitalizing the world of print, and revolutionizing consumers’ interaction and engagement with products today.
How it all Began
Visualead was created as an entrepreneurship by three co-founders, and received its seed funding from an angel investment group Kaedan Capital in April 2012. Their dream was to use their patent-pending technology to introduce a new and valuable niche into the world of QR Codes and mobile advertising – visual QR codes.
By effectively transforming the inflexible, unappealing QR code squares into vibrant, colorful images that retain the instant familiarity of the QR code structure and its reliability as a scannable code, visual codes are a much more compelling call-to-action than regular QR codes, and enable their creators to place them in prominent and noticeable positions within the advertisement without distorting its original design, instantly maximizing their potential.
Visualead’s goal was to close the gap between the familiar world of print advertising and the up-and-coming world of mobile campaigns and create a call-to-action that will boost leads, sales and exposure, increasing ROI up to 400%. Thus the visual QR code was created.
In January 2013, Visualead’s do-it-yourself website platform was launched, allowing any customer to create their own visual QR code in a manner of minutes, complete with detailed analytics and dynamic editing possibilities so that the QR code’s destination could be continuously adjusted from the website without requiring the code itself to be reprinted.
Within just half a year, Visualead has worked with more than 150,000 businesses around the world and created more than 30,000 visual QR code campaigns each month. In addition, Visualead employs a white label API which enables companies and enterprises to integrate these codes into their services by interfacing Visualead’s platform, leading to Visualead’s partnership with several major social networks and Fortune 500 companies.
In May 2013, Visualead participated in the prestigious GMIC conference in Beijing and walked away as the winner of the Seed Stage G-Startup contest, reinforcing their reputation as a strikingly innovative and promising startup.
There’s More Than Just the Looks
Although Visualead believes in creating a more visually appealing product, they aren’t just about appearances. Visualead’s patent-pending technology is based on unique algorithms that adapt the QR code and the image, and merge them together in a way that is the most visually attractive to the human eye, while still taking an uncompromising stand on complete scannability.
Visualead prides itself on having a quality product that is compatible with any QR code reader, and that will scan easily in various print, lighting and texture scenarios.
So as we’ve established already, Visualead’s vision is about much more than just creating pretty QR codes. Visualead intends to continue to improve their visual technology gradually based on visual QR code generations (Gen1 through Gen3), with the goal of increasing their current output to 10 million visual QR codes created per month using their website platform and API.
In conclusion, Visualead will continue to advance their technology in the various visual fields in order to fulfill their dream of becoming the leading offline-to-online solution in the market, making the leap from print to mobile all in one, colorful scan.
