Published on Facebook Software Engineering jobs, the position titled “Software Engineer, Growth – Malaysia (Contractor)”.

The Growth team is looking for experienced Software Engineers who can build and maintain services that are relied upon for growth-critical processes. This position is full-time and located in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia.

There are many job benefits to work in Facebook that make Malaysian IT staff jealous.

My two cents

It is interesting to see the Facebook development in Malaysia. Not sure if he/she is the 1st ever Facebook staff in Malaysia, though.

Currently, Malaysia has over 4 million (and growing) Facebook users, which is about 1% of Facebook active users.

Update: The new position could be working in the Facebook recently acquired 2 employees Malaysian company — Octazen. (thanks to everyone who tipped this!)

I don't think Facebook will create so much infrastructure (child care, cafeteria with chefs, etc) for their 3-man PJ office ler…

Getting paid in USD is much better right?
It helps to channel back some dollars and cents to the country

Read carefully on the Facebook.com careers page.

There is a section that explains if a Facebook office is outside the US, then it will follow all labour laws and such inside the country.

So, there might be no extreme benefits, but as far as I know, from talking to them, these are still under discussion.

The usual EPF and SOCSO stuff still apply.

Facebook made a strategic acquisition of a Malaysian startup named Octazen.

Guess this position is to work there.

In any case, I think the most exciting 'perk' for the Malaysian Facebook
team is a Facebook business card

Interesting indeed.. but I wonder if what perks & benefits they have in the US will apply to MY? ;-)

Most of the time, the policies applied to MY and US are different… But to work in this company is a perk by itself.

working in Facebook MY may make a lot of malaysian IT staff jealous, but working as a problogger makes CEOs in malaysia jealous ^^

    Thanks for the info.

This may be the first step for Facebook to offer more jobs in Malaysia, as we know the users from Malaysia is increasing very fast and perhaps they may also build their data center here.

  • Pingback: The Secret of Facebook Job Interview in Malaysia

  • XXX123

    Hi Guys,
    I just attended FB interview…
    Interview not conducted by locals..
    Interview was not entirely easy.
You have to write tons of code with a marker pen on their glass board
You must be extremely good at logic, loops and string parsing
    Understanding probability would help
    And..
Some questions that will really catch you off guard.. that you will just be thinking.. what the hell…
Haha, I want to remain anonymous, and will reply back only here.
    :)
I hope that I'm not saying too much already…

  • http://www.liewcf.com/ LiewCF

Cool! Thanks for the secret info :)

  • http://www.liewcf.com/ LiewCF

Did they tell you the job scopes?

  • http://www.liewcf.com/ LiewCF

Is it a “Facebook” office? Do you see Facebook logo in the office? :)

  • S X

Yes, I did get selected for the 2nd in-person interview.

Their office is in the spanking new Neo Damansara complex opposite Metropolitan Square in Damansara Perdana. Lights up with gay colours at night.
It is so new it is still under construction!

Facebook logo only adorns the little directory on the ground floor. Small strip of paper with Facebook Malaysia on it, in the white and blue.

Small sized, though they may have extra room.

Logic puzzle interview was interesting. About colt revolvers and Boeing 747 weight issues.
Coding interview was strict but the guy was ever helpful. Required a knowledge in arrays and strings. But it is a basic PHP interview. Other companies, like mine, sure do that.

  • S X

I agree. It is quite small sized at the moment.

I've a feeling they are going to buy quite a large part of the building should they want to have more space.

  • http://www.liewcf.com/ LiewCF

thanks for the info. now we know where is Facebook Malaysia office *grin*

  • nagobonar

appreciate if you could take some pictures…hahaha

  • magnee

I am never any good with on-the-spot coding or puzzle-solving. I would never be able to get the job, even I am now doing coding and solving puzzles and thinking out logics more or less full time. If any of you are like me or better than me in MVC framework with PHP, JS, MYSQL, drop me a line for a job opportunity. [email protected]. I hope Mr CF Liew doesn't mind a bit of job-streeting from his reader.
