Yahoo! copies Google Sitemaps and allow webmaster to upload their website sitemap to Yahoo ?

Visit http://submit.search.yahoo.com/free/request (required Yahoo! ID). You get a message read like following:

You can also provide the location of a text file containing a list of URLs, one URL per line, say urllist.txt. We also recognize compressed versions of the file, say urllist.gz.

Thought:
Instead of submit a website sitemap (URL list), I think Yahoo! only use it to allow webmaster submit few different websites at a time. The first paragraph read “Enter only the top-level page in your site…“. So, I think it is Not similar to Google Sitemaps. Too bad.

Does it mean that if we don’t submit the sitemap, they will not index our site or it will take a longer time for them to come and index our site.

I find it pretty pointless on the whole..
