Yahoo Y!Q — Related search results on-the-fly!

Filed in: Web, Yahoo! — February 6th, 2005

Y!Q is the first-of-its-kind contextual search technology that analyzes the contents of the Web page you’re viewing and then gives you a list of search results directly related to what you’re reading.

Features:

  • Search “at the point of inspiration”
  • Learn more about what you’re reading while you’re surfing and without leaving the page
  • Integrate related search results directly into any website

Try Y!Q:
There are four ways to try the new search, you can try on Yahoo! News(test version). Download Y!Q DemoBar to use Y!Q on any web pages. While DemoBar is for Internet Explorer only, Firefox users are not left out. You can add Y!Q into Firefox (Though more work than DemoBar), too! For web authors, you can even implement the Y!Q into your website!

The simplest way is typing in what you are looking at Y!Q homepage.

Thought:
The option to embed Y!Q into own website is great! It is not difficult to do so. Just link to Y!Q library file(Javascript) and add HTML form into web page. When visitor click on the button, a Y!Q related search result will “popup”, without leaving your web page. I think that is a nice feature to be added into blog site. :)

BTW, glad that Yahoo! had thought for Firefox users. It is the first search engine tool I know that officially support Firefox.
