Inside the Wiko Upulse signature square shape box, you get:

  • phone case
  • screen protector

Classy Black

The Wiko Upulse review unit I have is black colour. It is truly black, even the rear camera ring and fingerprint sensor are black colour too. The only exceptions are the Wiko logos and rear camera flash and dark gray buttons. The back cover has a metal design with brushed finish. Overall, Wiko Upulse looks classy.

If you have been reading my Wiko smartphone reviews, you will notice that Wiko Upulse does not have a home button like the others and the fingerprint sensor is at the back.

Wiko Upulse main camera and fingerprint sensor

Fingerprint sensor at the back is a more ergonomic design — simply pick up phone and your index finger is already positioned at the fingerprint sensor to unlock the phone. It is also a selfie camera shutter button to reduce camera shake blur.

Without the home button, the front panel is clean without any physical or capacitive button (it uses virtual buttons). What you see is the front camera with selfie flash, 5.5-inch large display and Wiko logo. The edges are smooth rounded with curved back.

Wiko Upulse benchmark results

Wiko Upulse benchmark results

  • Antutu v6.2.7: 2,8164
  • PCMark for Android – Work 2.0: 2,661
  • GeekBench 4.0: 532 (single-core), 1,366 (multi-core)

Bright display

Wiko Upulse has a 5.5 inch large display with 2.5D glass. The HD display uses IPS technology with full lamination and 500 nits brightness. High brightness display allows you to read the screen even under direct sunlights.

Battery life

The battery is 3,000 mAh Li-Po non-removable battery. My PCMark Work 2.0 battery life test on Wiko Upulse recorded 6 hours of battery life before enter battery saving mode.

To further prolong the phone battery life, you can enable “battery saver” which reduce phone’s performance, vibration, location services, and background processes.

Smart Camera

Wiko Upulse is equipped with 13MP main camera with flash and 8MP front camera with selfie flash. Selfie flash is great when you are taking selfie in low light environment.

Wiko Upulse camera app

The camera app is simple to use. Swipe left/right to switch in between photo mode or video mode. Flipping up/down will switch to the front or back camera. You can use the back fingerprint sensor as camera shutter button too.

The camera app supports Auto HDR (High-Dynamic-Range) which gives you better-looking photos in situations like portraits in sunlight, low-light and back-lit scenes.

It also has live filters to take creative photos and support various camera modes, example:

  • Super Pixel — take extra high resolution photo with extreme details
  • Beauty — take beautiful portrait photos
  • Time Lapse — take interesting time lapse video
  • Professional — control camera settings from ISO to manual focus
  • Portrait — take beautiful portrait photos with blur background

Useful Software

The phone runs Android 7.0 Nougat operating system with a touch of Wiko design and apps.

The File Manager organize your file on phone in easy to use categories. It has a FTP mode for you to transfer files wirelessly without a cable.

Have some secret files need extra security? Files Lock allows you to lock files for extra security. Locked files can be unlocked by pattern, password, or fingerprint.

You can setup multiple fingerprints and assign quick actions for each fingerprint. A fingerprint quick action can be opening an app or call a contact. You can also enable sensor button to activate back action on tap/swipe.

Also, Phone Assist is a handy free tool to optimize your phone’s performance.
